This is a study of the relationship between Anglicans and the armed forces, of the military heritage and history of the Anglican Communion, and the changing nature of this relationship between the mid-Victorian period and the 1970s. This era spanned a period of imperial expansion and colonial conflict round the turn of the twentieth century, the two World Wars, the Cold War, wars of decolonisation, and Vietnam. In terms of armed conflict, it was the bloodiest period in the history of humanity and marked the advent of weaponry that had the capacity to extinguish human civilization. This book assesses the contribution of an expansive Anglican Communion to the armed forces of the English-speaking world, examines the ways in which this has been remembered, and explores its challenging legacy for the twenty-first century Church of England.
Every Christian needs to be involved in a local church. Perhaps you have struggled to find the right local church for yourself and your family after you have moved to a different area. You were discouraged by a bad experience with a church in the past, or you just simply dropped out of church. Now you have made the decision that you want to find a church to attend. Possibly, you have become concerned that the church you attend falls short or doesn’t meet your needs or the needs of your family, or even that the church you attend has drifted from a proper foundation. A new pastor has come who is taking the church in a direction you do not want to go. Often what passes for “church” in twenty-first century America isn’t what the New Testament presents to us. In most American communities, there are several churches. How does one find the “right” congregation? What makes for a healthy church? The author attempts to help you answer these questions.
Describes the dilemma and the distractions that currently prevent congregations from being the place where that sense of belonging can unfold and guide newcomers in the discovery of faith. It suggests new and effective approaches to help churches make vital connections.
When God changes a church, He begins with the leader. He changes him from the inside out. That person is known to us as the pastor. This role is pivotal to any real redemptive work that God will ultimately do in the life of a particular congregation. In this book, we will see how God changed a particular African American Church in Birmingham, Alabama. The pastor chronicles how God inspired a vision that changed a traditional church with traditional values into an outward focused ministry with real worldwide reaching possibilities.

A humorous novel about a private eye living an uneventful life in Brighton until normality gives way to a kind of mad logic. Frank, a private eye in Brighton, is the perfect lodger: neat, quiet, and solitary, a decent man leading an uneventful life. Then his neighbour announces she’s pregnant, his landlady’s budgie is strangled, his boss retires to a sauna, his client’s wife is murdered, the client himself drowns, and his client’s sister dies in a fall from a high cliff path. As Frank’s world tightens into a circle of chaos and death, he seeks escape. But will this be the catalyst he needs, or just another step towards the total collapse of his life?
