He made his first appearance at the age of four, wrote his first hit song at 16, and appeared in countless Hollywood musicals- all before he was 30. He made his reputation singing with the best of the big bands- Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Woody Herman -and is a noted lyricist, arranger and drummer. He's also one of the few white performers to share the limelight with such jazz greats as Duke Ellington, Sarah Vaughn and Ella Fitzgerald.
