Ever since its original publication in Germany in 1938, Max Schweidler's Die Instandetzung von Kupferstichen, Zeichnungen, Buchern usw has been recognized as a seminal modern text on the conservation and restoration of works on paper. To address what he saw as a woeful dearth of relevant literature and in order to assist those who have 'set themselves the goal of preserving cultural treasures, ' the noted German restorer composed a thorough technical manual covering a wide range of specific techniques, including detailed instructions on how to execute structural repairs and alterations that, if skilfully done, can be virtually undetectable. By the mid-twentieth century, curators and conservators of graphic arts, discovering a nearly invisible repair in an old master print or drawing, might comment that the object had been 'Schweidlerized.' This volume, based on the authoritative revised German edition of 1949, makes Schweidler's work available in English for the first time, in a meticulously edited and annotated critical edition. The editor's introduction places the work in its historical context and probes the philosophical issues the book raises, while some two hundred annotati

The landing pages , also known as landing pages, are web pages created with the specific purpose of capturing visitors' attention and converting them into leads or customers. Unlike traditional website pages, which can have multiple objectives and links, landing pagespages are focusedand oriented towards a single action or message. What are Landings Pages ? A landing page is an independent page, separate from the main website structure, that serves as the entry point for a marketing campaign. It can be accessed through clicks on ads, search results, marketing emails or other traffic sources. The main objective is to encourage the visitor to take a specific action, such as filling out a form, making a purchase, signing up for a newsletter or downloading an e-book. Search User Interfaces (SUIs) represent the gateway between people who have a task to complete, and the repositories of information and data stored around the world. Not surprisingly, therefore, there are many communities who have a vested interest in the way SUIs are designed. There are people who study how humans search for information, and people who study how humans use computers. There are people who study good user interface design, and people who design aesthetically pleasing user interfaces. There are also people who curate and manage valuable information resources, and people who design effective algorithms to retrieve results from them. While it would be easy for one community to reject another for their limited ability to design a good SUI, the truth is that they all can, and they all have made valuable contributions. Fundamentally, therefore, we must accept that designing a great SUI means leveraging the knowledge and skills from all of these communities. The aim of this book is to at least acknowledge, if not integrate, all of these perspectives to bring the reader into a multidisciplinary mindset for how we should think about SUI design. Further, this book aims to provide the reader with a framework for thinking about how different innovations each contribute to the overall design of a SUI. With this framework and a multidisciplinary perspective in hand, the book then continues by reviewing: early, successful, established, and experimental concepts for SUI design. The book then concludes by discussing how we can analyse and evaluate the on-going developments in SUI design, as this multidisciplinary area of research moves forwards. Finally, in reviewing these many SUIs and SUI features, the book finishes by extracting a series of 20 SUI design recommendations that are listed in the conclusions. First published in 1941, Marxism: Is it Science? was written to present the author’s criticisms of Marxism and, in doing so, to further exemplify his ‘Method of Instruction’ first proposed in an earlier work. The book is divided into six parts to provide six complete presentations of Marxism and why the author considers it unscientific. The six different approaches, varying in focus and complexity, work together to give the reader a detailed overview of Marxism and the authors critique of it.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a rapidly growing inter-disciplinary field with a long and distinguished history that involves many countries and considerably pre-dates the development of computers. It can be traced back at least as far as Ancient Greece and has evolved over time to become a major subfield of computer science in general. This state-of-the-art survey not only serves as a "position paper" on the field from the viewpoint of expert members of the IFIP Technical Committee 12, its Working Groups and their colleagues, but also presents overviews of current work in different countries. The chapters describe important relatively new or emerging areas of work in which the authors are personally involved, including text and hypertext categorization; autonomous systems; affective intelligence; AI in electronic healthcare systems; artifact-mediated society and social intelligence design; multilingual knowledge management; agents, intelligence and tools; intelligent user profiling; and supply chain business intelligence. They provide an interesting international perspective on where this significant field is going at the end of the first decade of the twenty-first century.
