Master's Thesis from the year 2020 in the subject Computer Sciences - Artificial Intelligence, grade: 1,3, Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (Wirtschaftsinformatik), language: English, abstract: The thesis aims to analyze this field of tension between the benefits and risks caused by the introduction of AI into recruiting based on a systematic analysis of academic publications. To the knowledge of the author, neither a literature review on ethical challenges of AI-based recruiting tools nor an overview addressing application fields and the resulting ethical risks has been published so far. Consequently, this thesis aims to close this research gap by disclosing how AI technologies affect the recruiting process and how ethical challenges arising from the implementation of AI-based tools are addressed in the same publications. Consequently, research question (RQ) one (RQ1) and RQ two (RQ2) can be derived: Which AI technologies are applied in the field of recruiting, and how do they influence the recruiting process? Which major ethical challenges arise from the introduction of AI into recruiting, and how are these challenges addressed by the proposed AI-based tools? Addressing these two RQs, the remainder of this thesis is structured as follows. Chapter 2 classifies recruiting and its subprocesses as a part of Human Resources (HR), establishes a common understanding of AI and machine learning (ML) algorithms relevant in AI-based recruiting tools, and derives major ethical challenges with a focus on the ethical principles fairness and transparency. In chapter 3, the methodical approach used for identifying and selecting relevant literature is described. Chapter 4 answers both RQs, based on the AI-based recruiting tools included in the literature set. In turn, the first part of the analysis focuses on analyzing how the needs raised through traditional recruiting means are addressed by AI-based recruiting tools, also touching base on the underlying technologies. The second part addresses if and, where applicable, how these publications incorporate fairness and transparency. Subsequently, chapter 5 discusses the main findings of the analysis of the literature set and provides implications for theory and practice, followed by a brief conclusion and the outlining of limitations and future research fields in chapter 6.
The book is devoted to the study of the geometrical and topological structure of gauge theories. This large empirical study of corporate profitability in emerging markets during the 1980s and 1990s measures the intensity of competition. Data on corporate rates of return, profit margins, and output-capital ratios reveal that the recent liberalization has been associated with reduced corporate profit margins and improved capital utilization efficiency. The paper also analyzes persistency in corporate profitability and finds that competitiveness was no less intense in developing countries than in advanced countries. Although the paper is not directly concerned with the Asian crisis, it provides evidence on important structural hypotheses about the crisis.

Controlling Sex in Captivity is the first book to examine the nature, extent and impact of the sexual activities of Axis prisoners of war in the United States during the Second World War. Historians have so far interpreted the interactions between captors and captives in America as the beginning of the post-war friendship between the United States, Germany and Italy. Matthias Reiss argues that this paradigm is too simplistic. Widespread fraternisation also led to sexual relationships which created significant negative publicity, and some Axis POWs got caught up in the U.S. Army's new campaign against homosexuals. By focusing on the fight against fraternisation and same-sex activities, this study treads new ground. It stresses that contact between captors and captives was often loaded with conflict and influenced by perceptions of gender and race. It highlights the transnational impact of fraternisation and argues that the prisoners' sojourn in the United States also influenced American society by fuelling a growing concern about social disintegration and sexual deviancy, which eventually triggered a conservative backlash after the war.

Infanterie-Division was formed around the remnants of 268. Infanterie-Division, which had been disbanded after high casualties on the Eastern Front. It fought at Anzio in early 1944, overrun when the Allied broke through the German lines in April. During its time at Anzio, the division was involved in the Benedicta massacre. The unit was withdrawn to Rome. Facing the Allied advance, it suffered further losses and had to be rebuilt once more. Returning to the front, it then fought until late April 1945, when it surrendered. This account focuses on the efforts of 362. Infanterie-Division to turn back the Allied forces from their advance north in late 1944 and early 1945. Its commander, Heinz Greiner led the division in a series of counterattacks against Allied forces outside Rome that slowed Allied progress. While Greiner did not have access to the unit war diary while writing this account his experience as commander of 362. Infanterie-Division throughout this period means that it offers a unique insight into the battle from the German perspective as well as a thorough account of the reestablishment, training and combat performance of a German division.
