Over the course of his career, Luther H. Martin has primarily produced articles rather than monographs. This approach to publication has given him the opportunity to experiment with different methodological approaches to an academic study of religion, with updates to and different interpretations of his field of historical specialization, namely Hellenistic religions, the subject of his only monograph (1987). The contents of this collected volume represent Martin's shift from comparative studies, to socio-political studies, to scientific studies of religion, and especially to the cognitive science of religion. He currently considers the latter to be the most viable approach for a scientific study of religion within the academic context of a modern research university. The twenty-five contributions collected in this volume are selected from over one hundred essays, articles, and book chapters published over a long and industrious career and are representative of Martin's work over the past two decades.

Positioned at the crossroads of queer theory and postcolonial cultural studies, this book intervenes in current debates on sexuality and globalization to argue that the current emergence of public, dissident sexualities in non-Western locations like Taiwan cannot be reduced to the effects of homogenizing 'Westernization'. Instead, Situating Sexualities approaches the queer sexualities represented in recent Taiwanese fiction, film and public culture as dynamic formations that combine local knowledge with globalizing discourses on gay and lesbian identity to produce sexualities that are multiple, shifting and inherently hybrid. Equally, the book pushes out the limits of 'queer' to challenge the Eurocentrism of much queer theory to date. Consistently critical of essentializing accounts of 'Chinese' culture, the book nevertheless highlights some of the important ways in which Taiwanese formations of dissident sexuality differ from the familiar Euro-American formations.

Non-invasive, high resolution contrast arteriography without arte rial catheterization or nephrotoxicity is now possible. It is accomplished by using paramagnetic contrast and an MR scanner. Paramagnetic contrast media is injected intravenously and image data are collected as the con trast circulates through the vascular territory of interest. Due to the strong enhancement effect of paramagnetic contrast media, a small dose injected as an intravenous bolus is sufficient to briefly enhance the entire arterial vascular tree. This allows imaging with a large field-of-view that encompasses an extensive region of vascular anatomy. By using a 3D gradient echo pulse sequence on magnets with high performance gra dient systems, high resolution 3D volumes of image data are acquired in a single breath-hold. This has vastly improved image quality of 3D con trast MRA exams, particularly in the chest and abdomen. Subsequent post-processing allows an angiographic display of image data in any desired obliquity. The success of this technique is reflected by its incorporation into clinical practice in centers throughout the world. It has been applied to multiple vascular territories, using various magnets, and slightly differ ing imaging strategies. As is the ca se for all MR imaging techniques, a thorough understanding of the underlying mechanisms and proper technique are essential to fully exploit the diagnostic potential of this new form of angiography. This book will familiarize the reader with the basic principles of 3D contrast MRA.

The essays reach back to the very material world of craftsmanship and mechanical inventions of Renaissance Italy where, in 1469, the German master printer Johannes of Speyer obtained a five-year exclusive privilege to print in Venice and its dominions. Along the intellectual journey that follows, we encounter John Milton who, in his 1644 Areopagitica speech 'For the Liberty of Unlicensed Printing', accuses the English parliament of having been deceived by the 'fraud of some old patentees and monopolizers in the trade of bookselling' (i.e. the London Stationers' Company).
