An unprecedented leadership challenge for school administrators Today’s school leaders face the unprecedented challenge of leading five generations: Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and brand-new Generation Z teachers, along with Gen Alpha, today’s youngest students. Based on extensive research and the author’s experience working with thousands of educators and students, 5-Gen Leadership addresses the nuances and expectations implicit with leading each generation. With an emphasis on developing a multi-generational lens through which to view school improvement, this book covers topics such as recruiting and retaining today’s young teachers, tailoring professional development for each generation, and helping each generation succeed in a complex, accelerating world. Readers will also find: Tactics for transitioning to 5-Gen Leadership and understanding the four distinct generations in the teaching staff Moving leadership styles from a managing model to a coaching model Advice for understanding and creating a welcoming environment for Gen Z and Gen Alpha Suggestions for closing the digital generation gaps that emerged during the COVID-19 school closures A glimpse into the future to imagine how new generations of leaders will help reshape schools by 2030 If we’re going to make the most of reforming our schools in the 2020s and keep up with the exponential rate of change in society we must understand today’s students and the four disparate generations in our staffs. This book is critical to help leaders bridge those gaps. “How do we prepare today’s students for the rapidly changing workplace and society in which they will live, work, and interact in an education system designed for a century that has passed us by? In 5-Gen Leadership: Leading 5 Generations in Schools in the 2020s, Mark White clearly provides a well-lit path to assist educators to successfully make the necessary cultural, structural and instructional changes that are needed.” -Bill Daggett, Founder International Center for Leadership in Education (ICLE)
The presidency of Bill Clinton has an intrinsic historical significance: a marker of generational change, as he was the first 'baby boomer' to reach the White House; the first president whose personal life received no less attention than his policies; and the first elected Democrat President to win re-election since Franklin Roosevelt. This book provides wide-ranging coverage of Clinton's career, addressing the salient aspects of Clinton's life in politics: his governorship; the 1992 presidential campaign; the battle for health care reform; his economic policies; the issue of character, including the Monica Lewinsky scandal; his foreign policy - specifically his role in the peace process in Northern Ireland and in authorizing an aerial war in Kosovo; his handling of the issue of gay rights; and his relationship with the Hollywood film industry. Based on the latest research, this volume provides important new perspectives on Clinton's life in politics. It will be essential reading for anyone interested in American History, Politics and International Relations.

This guide is merely a reference for all of those young ladies who are not fortunate enough to be under the covering and care of their fathers. My purpose and motive for writing this guide was to better prepare teenage girls entering into junior high school and high school who will face an insurmountable amount of peer pressure. With all of social medias connections and users it is very important for me to inform these future adults that certain acts and behaviors caught on camera or video can be very devastating for a lifetime even if the act was a mistake, a dare or simply just a lapse in judgement. Unfortunately cyberspace will never let you forget it and it will certainly be archived for you or against you. This is the danger in social media and that is how cyber bullying is birthed and often created from unsuspected videos and pictures that are unapproved by its victims. All of it is not planned because this generation will automatically pull out their phones to capture any moment or event they feel is worth it. But some are planned and for the sole purpose of destroying someones good name and reputation. So this book/guide is to better prepare and equip those young teenage girls who may not be aware of the tricks and traps that jealousy, envy and boredom can breed. I believe it will change and save some young ladies life. Social Media has brainwashed and manipulated our girls into thinking that their worth is measured by the likes and comments that often come from perfect strangers. Thats a LIE!!! No facebook, instagram, snapchat or twitter could ever reveal or measure a young ladies TRUE worth.
An unflinching and courageous exposé of white supremacy's ascent and ubiquity in America today In White NoiseAmerican photographer Mark Peterson (born 1955) examines the rhetoric of the White House on immigration and Muslim bans, and how this echoes and intersects with nationalism, Western chauvinism, white supremacy, neo-Nazis and all those calling for an ethnostate in America. Peterson, whose photos have been featured in the New York Times, Fortune, Time Magazineand elsewhere, began his project as a means to understand the divisive mood of the country following the 2016 presidential election. His often confronting subjects include anti-Muslim rallies in New York; families on Confederate Memorial Day in the South; white nationalists protesting in Charlottesville, preceding the murder of Heather Heyer; leaders of the Ku Klux Klan in their homes; burning swastikas. The result is a vital and unsettling portrait of the normalization of this reality in the United States; in the words of Claudia Rankine, who contributes an essay: "What our government won't acknowledge Mark Peterson has. His images focus on the terror that has taken advantage of our refusal to look it squarely in its face and acknowledge it as homegrown and thriving.

How does a Jewish boy who spent the bulk of his childhood on the basketball courts of Brooklyn wind up teaching in one of the city's pioneering black studies departments? Naison's odyssey begins as Brooklyn public schools respond to a new wave of Black migrants and Caribbean immigrants, and established residents flee to virtually all-white parts of the city or suburbs. Already alienated by his parents' stance on race issues and their ambitions for him, he has started on a separate ideological path by the time he enters Columbia College. Once he embarks on a long-term interracial relationship, becomes a member of SDS, focuses his historical work on black activists, and organizes community groups in the Bronx, his immersion in the radical politics of the 1960s has emerged as the center of his life. Determined to keep his ties to the Black community, even when the New Left splits along racial lines, Naison joined the fledgling African American studies program at Fordham, remarkable then as now for its commitment to interracial education. This memoir offers more than a participant's account of the New Left's racial dynamics; it eloquently speaks to the ways in which political commitments emerge from and are infused with the personal choices we all make.
What is the answer? A question that many people have either tried to answer, or find the answer to. What is life? Why am I here? What will give me fulfillment, and purpose. Why isn’t everyday of my life the best day of my life? What’s ahead in my future? What happens after life? If God exist, then why does He watch all of the terrible things happen and do nothing? I could go on and on with the many questions that billions upon billions of people have wanted the answers to. This book was written to address some questions that many people have asked. Also to expose a hidden truth that is so simple, it gets overlooked billions a time a day. The most complex problems that we can ever face, all surprisingly have the most simplest solution. Once there is a solution to a problem, then it cease from being a problem. Funny thing is, is that there has never been a problem that didn’t have a simple solution. The thing is that to some they have made the problem bigger than the solution. The most successful people to have ever lived all had this in common, they never perceived a problem, to big for a SOLUTION.
For many years historians of the Cuban missile crisis have concentrated on those thirteen days in October 1962 when the world teetered on the brink of nuclear war. Mark White’s study adds an equally intense scrutiny of the causes and consequences of the crisis. Missiles in Cuba is based on up-to-date scholarship as well as Mr. White’s own findings in National Security Archive materials, Kennedy Library tapes of ExComm meetings, and correspondence between Soviet officials in Washington and Havana—all newly released. His more rounded picture gives us a much clearer understanding of the policy strategies pursued by the United States and the Soviet Union (and, to a lesser extent, Cuba) that brought on the crisis. His almost hour-by-hour account of the confrontation itself also destroys some venerable myths, such as the unique initiatives attributed to Robert Kennedy. And his assessment of the consequences of the crisis points to salutary effects on Soviet-American relation and on U.S. nuclear defense strategy, but questionable influences on Soviet defense spending and on Washington’s perception of its talents for "crisis management," later tested in Vietnam.
This book introduces the moral philosophy of Immanuel Kant—in particular, the concepts of autonomy, dignity, and character—to economic theory, explaining the importance of integrating these two streams of intellectual thought. Mainstream economics is rooted in classical utilitarianism, recommending that decision makers choose the options that are expected to generate the largest net benefits. For individuals, the standard economic model fails to incorporate the role of principles in decision-making, and also denies the possibility of true choice, which can be independent of preferences and principles altogether. For policymakers, standard decision-making frameworks recommend tradeoffs that are beneficial in terms of material goods or wealth, but may be morally questionable from a more person-centered perspective. Integrating Kantian ethics affects economics in three important ways. This integration allows for a more complete understanding of human choice, incorporating not just preferences and constraints, but also principles and strength of will or character. It demonstrates the broader impact of welfare economics, which generates policies that affect not only persons' well-being, but also their dignity and autonomy. Finally, it reconciles the traditional, individualist stance in economic models of choice with the social responsibility emphasized by many systems of philosophical ethics and heterodox schools of economics.
Legislators and educators have been working tirelessly to pursue answers for years. Experts have warned of dire consequences for America's economy, our standard of living, and even our freedom, if the remedy isn't found soon. They say the schools are failing, there are too many bad teachers, the schools need more money, they have too much money the list only gets longer. Meanwhile, Boomerang kids in their twenties and thirties are moving back home, employers can't find kids who are willing to work, and the military is worried that many potential recruits are too fat to fight. So far not one of the critics has examined the issue closely enough to offer a comprehensive solution...until now. The Trophy Generation puts all this and more together in a complete analysis of the dynamics of education and childrearing in the twenty-first century and offers real solutions to keep America the strongest and foremost nation of our time. Discover what you can do to change the future education for the future of America.
Now in paperback, The Rural Face of White Supremacy presents a detailed study of the daily experiences of ordinary people in rural Hancock County, Georgia. Drawing on his own interviews with over two hundred black and white residents, Mark Schultz argues that the residents acted on the basis of personal rather than institutional relationships. As a result, Hancock County residents experienced more intimate face-to-face interactions, which made possible more black agency than their urban counterparts were allowed. While they were still firmly entrenched within an exploitive white supremacist culture, this relative freedom did create a space for a range of interracial relationships that included mixed housing, midwifery, church services, meals, and even common-law marriages.
William Boyd Dawkins was a controversial Victorian geologist, palaeontologist and archaeologist who has divided opinion as either a hero or villain. For some, he was a pioneer of Darwinian science as a member of the Lubbock-Evans network, while for others he was little more than a reckless vandal who destroyed irreplaceable evidence and left precious little for future generations to assess. In this volume, Professor Mark White provides an unbiased archaeological and geological account of Boyd Dawkins career and legacy by drawing on almost twenty years of research as well as his archive of published and unpublished work which places him at the centre of Victorian Darwinian science and society. White examines his work in both the field and study to provide a critical yet balanced account of his achievements and standing in relation to the field today as well as among his peers. At the heart of this book is a detailed study of the circumstances surrounding the Victorian excavations at Creswell Crags, where two celebrated finds became a cause celebre
An autobiography by Mark Monroe a Native American, who discusses the poverty, racism, and alcoholism that linger constantly at the edges of the Native American world, and his struggle out of these traps.
A revelatory reassessment of one of the most influential American artists of the 20th century Charles White (1918–1979) is best known for bold, large-scale paintings and drawings of African Americans, meticulously executed works that depict human relationships and socioeconomic struggles with a remarkable sensitivity. This comprehensive study offers a much-needed reexamination of the artist’s career and legacy. With handsome reproductions of White’s finest paintings, drawings, and prints, the volume introduces his work to contemporary audiences, reclaims his place in the art-historical narrative, and stresses the continuing relevance of his insistent dedication to producing positive social change through art. Tracing White’s career from his emergence in Chicago to his mature practice as an artist, activist, and educator in New York and Los Angeles, leading experts provide insights into White’s creative process, his work as a photographer, his political activism and interest in history, the relationship between his art and his teaching, and the importance of feminism in his work. A preface by Kerry James Marshall addresses White’s significance as a mentor to an entire generation of practitioners and underlines the importance of this largely overlooked artist.
