This book proposes an interdisciplinary methodology for developing an intercultural use of law so as to include cultural differences and their protection within legal discourse; this is based on an analysis of the sensory grammar tacitly included in categorizations. This is achieved by combining the theoretical insights provided by legal theory, anthropology and semiotics with a reading of human rights as translational interfaces among the different cultural spaces in which people live. To support this use of human rights’ semantic and normative potential, a specific cultural-geographic view dubbed ‘legal chorology’ is employed. Its primary purpose is to show the extant continuity between categories and spaces of experience, and more specifically between legal meanings and the spatial dimensions of people’s lives. Through the lens of legal chorology and the intercultural, translational use of human rights, the book provides a methodology that shows how to make space and law reciprocally transformative so as to create an inclusive legal grammar that is equidistant from social cultural differences. The analysis includes: a critical view on opportunities for intercultural secularization; the possibility of construing a legal grammar of quotidian life that leads to an inclusive equidistance from differences rather than an unachievable neutrality or an all-encompassing universal legal ontology; an interdisciplinary methodology for legal intercultural translation; a chorological reading of the relationships between human rights protection and lived spaces; and an intercultural and geo-semiotic examination of a series of legal cases and current issues such as indigenous peoples’ rights and the international protection of sacred places.
The aim of Cooperative Games on Combinatorial Structures is to analyze conflict situations in which two or more players can make coalitions and obtain prizes and penalties. This approach to situations of competition and cooperation was given in the seminal treatise by John von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern, Theory of Games and Economic Behavior. Cooperative game theory has succeeded in providing many applications of game theory. In this volume, games defined on combinatorial structures will be analyzed, i.e. a set system over a set of players. In many situations the author will work in a closure space. Examples of closure operators are the spanning operator of linear algebra and all convex hull operators. Chapters 1-4 constitute a review of mathematical concepts from Cooperative Game Theory, Graph Theory, Linear and Integer Programming, Combinatorial Optimization, Discrete Convex Analysis and Computational Complexity. The table of contents is a short guide to the topics and methods covered in this book. In Chapters 11 and 12, several notebooks are presented with the system Mathematica by Wolfram in the contexts of the packages DiscreteMath (Skiena) and Cooperative (Carter). There will also be found in the book several research projects. These are intended to offer new ideas that the reader should consider with caution. This book will be of interest to graduate students with some experience in game theory or mathematical programming and professional researchers in game theory, operational research and its applications in economic theory, and the political and social sciences. In addition, it will be especially useful for professionals who are interested in models for understanding and managing conflicts: management and operational research scientists, political and military scientists, and professional negotiators.

But if we look at the history of cinema and consider contemporary reviews from the early days of the medium, we see that people thought precisely in this way about early film. They spoke of film as no more than documentary recordings of actors performing on set. In an innovative combination of philosophical aesthetics and new cinema history, Mario Slugan investigates how our default imaginative engagement with film changed over the first two decades of cinema. It addresses not only the importance of imagination for the understanding of early cinema but also contributes to our understanding of what it means for a representational medium to produce fictions. La maggiore presenza di componenti della famiglia Frione, oggi esistente in Italia, si trova a Finale Ligure e, in minor misura, a Pietra Ligure e Albenga, in provincia di Savona. Tuttavia l'origine della famiglia non è da individuarsi nella città ligure, perché vi è qui giunta da Legino, oggi quartiere occidentale del comune di Savona. Ma anche Legino fu soltanto una tappa nella storia della famiglia Frione, ed oggi nel sobborgo savonese nessuno più porta questo cognome. L'origine dei Frione, infatti, è probabilmente da far risalire all'astigiano, da dove "scesero" verso il mare, stabilendosi in val Bormida, e poi, appunto, a Savona. Nell'800 la famiglia prese strade nuove: anche i Frione non si sottrassero al destino di milioni di Liguri, e molti giovani si imbarcarono per il Sud America. Uruguay e Argentina furono le mete prescelte. Questo libro ripercorre la storia della famiglia dalla fine del '400 fino all'età contemporanea.

Il presente lavoro potrebbe servire a diradare un poco la troppo diffusa ignoranza religiosa e almeno fornire un qualche imput a coloro che posseggono quel minimo di curiosità e senso critico che è la base per lo sviluppo di un pensiero maturo autonomo. Un pensiero cioè personale, non imbrigliato da schemi ideologici preconfezionati da altri e inculcati fin dalla nascita con un ossessivo indottrinamento a senso unico propiziato da Stati concordatari, confessionali, o para.
