Every single artistic endeavor in Stanislavsky's life was achieved in close collaboration with female partners. First, it was his own mother, Elizaveta Alekseyeva, who shaped his personality, and encouraged his exploration of theatre. Then it was his artistic mother, Glikeria Fedotova, who guided him through the ten years of his work. Then Maria Lilina, his wife, who became his best student, and later one of the best actresses of the Art Theatre. It would be impossible to understand Stanislavsky's development as an actor and director without his work with Maria Andreyeva, the 'femme fatale' of turn of the century Russian theatre, or Olga Knipper, whom he directed and acted with for forty years. And near the end of his life, when Stanislavsky introduced the method of physical action (metod phizicheskix deistvii), another woman embraced his work, a young actress named Irina Rozanova. Stanislavsky and Female Actors is the exploration of Stanislavsky's artistic and personal relationship with the leading actresses of the Moscow Art Theatre. It seeks to portray their life-long artistic dialogue and offers a new biographical study of the previously unknown spheres of Stanislavsky's life, as well as the lives of the Moscow Art Theatre's principal actresses.

This book examines ways of saving energy by using green roofs and facades, solar devices such as building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), and thermal solar panels, as components of energy-efficient building envelopes. The author takes an interdisciplinary / multidisciplinary approach to the subject that analyzes several different scientific fields connected to building research—sustainability, sustainable architecture, energy efficiency in buildings, and building envelopes—while approaching other collateral domains, including history, archaeology, botanics, physics, engineering, and landscape architecture. Alternative Envelope Components for Energy-Efficient Buildings will be a welcome resource for researchers, students, and postgraduates in the fields of energy, building materials, and renewable energy, as well as architects, engineers, and specialists in industries related to building products. Looks at the impact of building envelopes on energy usage; Offers readers an introduction to the principles of sustainability; Presents passive and active approaches to using solar devices.
This multidisciplinary volume offers a spectacular view and the first overall presentation of the history of Lake Ladoga, of the greatest lake in Europe. The focus of the study is on the northern parts of the shores of the lake, which belonged to Finland ́s rule between 1812 and 1944. Adopting the lens of coastal history, the edited volume presents the development of the vast Great Lake's catchment area over a long-time span, from archaeological traces to Viking routes and from fishery huts to the luxury villas of the power elite. It reflects on people ́s sensory-historical relationships with aquatic nature, and considers the benefits and harms of power plants and factories to human communities and the environment. The authors from different universities explore a wide range of questions, including: What has the Great Lake meant to local residents in cultural and emotional terms? How should we conceptualize the extensive and diverse networks of activities that surrounded the lake? What kind of Ladoga beaches did the Finns have to cede to the Soviet Union at the end of the war in 1944? How have Finns reminisced about their lost homelands? How have the Russians transformed the profile of the region, and what is the state of Ladoga's waters today? The history of Lake Ladoga helps readers to understand better the economic, political, and socio-cultural characteristics of the cross-border areas, and the dynamics of the vulnerable border regions.
Following the succesful publication of "Proteome and Protein Analysis" in 2000, which was based on a former MPSA (Methods in Protein Structure Analysis) conference, "Methods in Proteome and Protein Analysis" presents the most interesting papers from the 14th MPSA meeting. Major topics include: X-ray crystallography, mass spectrometry or cryo-electron microscopy tomography and different experimental approaches for the study of very large multi-subunit molecular nanomaschines; development of high throughput methods for large-scale protein expression and purification and automatic data acquisition for structure determination by both X-ray diffraction and NMR spectroscopy; mechanisms of protein folding and misfolding in vitro and in vivo; protein-protein interactions; analysis of post-translational modifications; the classification, prediction of structure or functional sites, and evolution of protein folds and functions. TOC: Includes 25 chapters organized in the following parts: Structural Proteomics Proteome Analysis Structure-Function Correlations Protein-Protein Interaction Advanced Technologies Protein Sequencing and Amino Acids Analysis Bioinformatics
