The work presented here is based upon contact with excellent scientists who did not measure their time sparingly to be of assistance. It has also benefited from the infrastructure some col leagues made available to me, and without which considerable delays and expenditure would have been unavoidable. In this respect, I am particularly indebted to a number of people. Dr. J. Abramovici, Professor S. Orloff and Professor R. Fridrich reviewed my data critically and gave me access to their Insti tutes, enabling me to collect the clinical evi dence required to complete this work. The latter benefited also from the efforts of Dr. K. Streule who supervised the cross-over study upon which the final conclusions have been based. Dr. R. Senekowitsch and her staff were of inva luable help with the animal experimental data and was, together with Professor H. Kriegel, kind enough to enable me to complete this particular part. Dr. H.L. Computational geometry emerged from the field of algorithms design and anal ysis in the late 1970s. It has grown into a recognized discipline with its own journals, conferences, and a large community of active researchers. The suc cess of the field as a research discipline can on the one hand be explained from the beauty of the problems studied and the solutions obtained, and, on the other hand, by the many application domains--computer graphics, geographic in formation systems (GIS), robotics, and others-in which geometric algorithms play a fundamental role. For many geometric problems the early algorithmic solutions were either slow or difficult to understand and implement. In recent years a number of new algorithmic techniques have been developed that improved and simplified many of the previous approaches. In this textbook we have tried to make these modem algorithmic solutions accessible to a large audience. The book has been written as a textbook for a course in computational geometry, but it can also be used for self-study.

Na zijn geboorte werd de verteller vergiftigd door zijn moeder. Tijdens een studie over zijn geboortestreek en een aantal maatschappelijk sociale gebeurtenissen over de lage landen meent hij een oorzaak te vinden in de verdrukking die de reformatie en onbreekbaar er aan verbonden de contrareformatie en de vervolging van de kerk door middel van de inquisitie die lelijk thuishield in Le Nord en de Vlaamse landen. Na bezoek aan het geschonden graf van een grootoom ontmoet hij een vreemd personage die zijn overvloedige littekens toeschrijft aan de vele veldslagen die hij meemaakte. Deze vreemde man noemt zich Drogo De Valenciennes en ex kruisvaarder. Hij lijkt onsterfbaar omwille van wat ooit gebeurde waardoor hij zijn gevoelens niet meer kan lenigen. Hij zoekt in de persoon van de verteller een medestaander die emotioneel getormenteerd is om samen uit het leven te stappen.
