In this innovative work, Marc M. Anderson presents an account of value and value creation, which both defines value and introduces a method to manipulate value practically. Using this new methodology, Anderson first explores where value lies in experience, both human and otherwise, uncovering tendencies in human action and the natural world that create and destroy value. From that analysis, he generates practical principles to be applied in creating value in any region or discipline of human experience, at any scale, including corporate organization and product design, economics, the sciences, the arts, urban and architectural design, and sustainable development. He tests this methodology by focusing on the organization and production of commercial corporations in particular, suggesting ways to rethink and transform organization, product creation, and the contemporary currency system. He considers the implications for the many intersections of corporate production with human life, from urban planning, medicine, and food production to pornography, weaponry, and environmental engagement, with corresponding suggestions for transformation toward value. Throughout, Hyperthematics examines complexity, the nature of objects, the inevitable future intermingling of science and ethics, and assumptions driving the contemporary culture wars.

The Later Prehistory of North-West Europe provides a unique, up-to-date, and easily accessible synthesis of the later prehistoric archaeology of north-west Europe, transcending political and language barriers that can hinder understanding. By surveying changes in social forms, landscape organization, monument types, and ritual practices over six millennia, the volume reassesses the prehistory of north-west Europe from the late Mesolithic to the end of the pre-Roman Iron Age. It explores how far common patterns of social development are apparent across north-west Europe, and whether there were periods when local differences were emphasized instead. In relation to this, it also examines changes through time in the main axes of contact between the various regions of continental Europe, Britain, and Ireland. Key to the volume's broad scope is its focus on the vast mass of new evidence provided by recent development-led excavations. The authors collate data that has been gathered on thousands of sites across Britain, Ireland, northern France, the Low Countries, western Germany, and Denmark, using sources including unpublished 'grey literature' reports. The results challenge many aspects of previous narratives of later prehistory, allowing the volume to present a distinctively fresh perspective.
First published in 1938, Jacob Rader Marcus's The Jews in The Medieval World has remained an indispensable resource for its comprehensive view of Jewish historical experience from late antiquity through the early modern period, viewed through primary source documents in English translation. In this new work based on Marcus's classic source book, Marc Saperstein has recast the volume's focus, now fully centered on Christian Europe, updated the work's organizational format, and added seventy-two new annotated sources. In his compelling introduction, Saperstein supplies a modern and thought-provoking discussion of the changing values that influence our understanding of history, analyzing issues surrounding periodization, organization, and inclusion. Through a vast range of documents written by Jews and Christians, including historical narratives, legal opinions, martyrologies, memoirs, polemics, epitaphs, advertisements, folktales, ethical and pedagogical writings, book prefaces and colophons, commentaries, and communal statutes, The Jews in Christian Europe allows the actors and witnesses of events to speak for themselves.

Arranged in an A-Z format, it includes mini biographies on each of the forty-two kings and queens who have ruled since the Norman Conquest, details of the royal lines in Scotland before the Act of Union, the background to the royal houses of Britain and the consorts – largely foreign – who have married into the monarchy. Horoscopes of Europe is Marc Penfield's third book on countries of the world arranged by continent. This encyclopedic book is the definitive work on the 51 nations that make up the world's smallest continent, from its largest (Russia) to four diminuitive nations inside Italy, three of them shown here for the first time (Montenegro, Seborga and Sov. Military Order of Malta). This extremely valuable reference work is one that no astrologer interested in mundane, or political, astrology can afford to be without. A century ago, Europe had only 26 countries, most of them monarchies, only half of which remain today. Over the following eight decades, nine more nations were born and with the break-up of the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia, 15 more countries emerged onto the world scene. Many countries have two horoscopes-one for its original monarchy, the other for its transition to democracy. France and Germany have many charts from their emergence in the Middle Ages down through a millennia to become the powerhouses of Europe. Charts for the Roman Republic and Empire are also shown. The Eurasian countries of the Caucasus have also been included as they straddle Europe and Asia as do the countries of Russia and Turkey. Charts for more than 135 European cities have also been included, calculated for when they were granted their charters. Appendix A has horoscopes for every member of the European Union, while Appendix B has the author's rectified birth times for most cities shown in this book. This appendix also has the author's speculative birth dates for the cities of London and Paris. Marc Penfield is a double Scorpio with Gemini rising. Known as an historian and researcher and a lover of history and geography, his many years as a travel agent enabled him to journey to many of the places he writes about. Marc Penfield is the author of Bon Voyage (on relocation techniques), Solar Returns in Your Face, Stars over England (with brief bios on its monarchs), Horoscopes of the USA and Canada (now in its 2nd printing), and Horoscopes of Asia, Australia and the Pacific.
Seminar paper from the year 2007 in the subject Sport - Sport Sociology, grade: 1,0, Free University of Berlin, language: English, abstract: [...] This term paper aims at summarizing the knowledge base about this relatively young subject of investigation that is endurance addiction, representative of sports addiction. Due to the limited focus of this paper, the subject of addiction in risky sports with its very specific characteristics of “pushing boundaries” and “looking for adventure” cannot be included. Likewise, addiction in the bodybuilding sport has to be left out of the discussion. Since sports addiction and herewith endurance addiction is considered a behavioral addiction, it is imperative to first define the term behavioral addiction. Subsequently, the phenomenology of running addiction will be presented extensively, more precisely by deriving a definition in conjunction with the determination of diagnostic criteria. Then the circumstances that can be conducive to sports addiction and the causes of sports addiction are discussed. Another point of interest is the topic of withdrawal symptoms occurring addiction-specifically with refraining from sports. Subsequently, the question about therapeutic approaches and therapy possibilities should be raised. [...]
