Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2007 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,8, Heilbronn Business School, course: Decision and Informatin Analysis (MBA), language: English, abstract: This report refers to the MBA course module “decision and information analysis” and is divided in three parts, depending on each given situation. In doing so, the author refers to three different practical situations, all of them referring to different theories and techniques, namely (1) Soft Systems Methodology (SSM), (2) Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and (3) Alexandrian Pattern Analysis (APA) applied to Metcalfe’s law. All assumptions are stated and reasoned in the appendix. This report aims to give an insight into how these theoretical methods can be applied to practical challenges, demonstrating a critical analysis of the respective issues. For each situation, relevant theories are explained and applied to practice, prior to critically analysing and evaluating them. The author concludes with the findings on each of the three issues by the means of review and perspectives.
Blockchain is widely considered a new key technology. The Foundation for Technology Assessment (TA-SWISS) has proposed a comprehensive assessment of blockchain technologies. With this publication, TA-SWISS provides the much-needed social contextualisation of blockchain. The first, more technical part of the study takes an in-depth look at how blockchain functions and examines the economic potential of this technology. By analysing multiple real-world applications, the study sheds light on where the blockchain has advantages over traditional applications and where existing technologies continue to be the better solution. The second part of the study examines how blockchain became mainstream. It explores the origins of blockchain in the early history of information technology and computer networks. The study also reveals the impact blockchain has on industrial and public spaces. Finally, it discusses the social implications and challenges of blockchain against the background of a new socio-technical environment.

Are social movement organizations euro-sceptical, euro-pragmatic, or euro-opportunist? Or do they accept the EU as a new level of governance to place pressure on? Do they provide a critical capital, necessary for the political structuring of the EU, or do they disrupt the process of EU integration? This book includes surveys of activists at international protest events targeting the European Union (for a total of about 5000 interviews); a discourse analysis of documents and transcripts of debates on European politics and policies conducted during the four European social forums held between 2002 and 2006 and involving hundreds of social movement organizations and tens of thousands of activists from all European countries; about 320 interviews with representatives of civil society organizations in six EU countries (France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy) and one non-member state (Switzerland), and a systematic claims analysis of the daily press in selected years between 1990 and 2003. The empirical research shows the different paths of Europeanization taken by social movements and civil society organizations.
Manuela Krones develops a method that supports factory planners in generating energy-efficient planning solutions. The method provides qualitative description concepts for factory planning tasks and energy efficiency knowledge as well as an algorithm-based linkage between these measures and the respective planning tasks. Its application is guided by a procedure model which allows a general applicability in the manufacturing sector. The results contain energy efficiency measures that are suitable for a specific planning task and reveal the roles of various actors for the measures’ implementation.
Master's Thesis from the year 2009 in the subject Law - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,4, Heilbronn Business School, course: MBA, language: English, abstract: This report aims at analysing the implications of changes in European Corporate Law on cross-border mergers, with particular focus on strategic management's decision on intangible assets of the integration stage. It consists of two parts, (1) an analysis of the implications of changes in European Corporate Law, and (2) an assessment of their impact on post merger integration. Part 1 is about the European Court of Justice's jurisdiction and its implications on German Corporate Law: It explores how European Law is influencing and thereby changing national law. Having analysed the effect of its rulings on - until recently in continental Europe prevailing - seat theory, I carefully analyse the subsequent developments and trends, including reform of the German Limited Liability Company Act (MoMiG), competition of legal forms, opportunities offered by recently introduced supranational legal forms with particular focus on the Societas Europaea, and EU merger directive with its influence on the German Transformation Act. Part 2 not only critically evaluates prevailing merger integration theories, it also reflects on the opportunities the afore-mentioned changes in European Corporate Law offer to successful post merger integration. Hence, I analyse and further develop Jansen's 7c model and educe a strategic plan.
