Questo libro ricostruisce per la prima volta la vita di Francis Xavier Morgan (1857-1935), sacerdote cattolico nato a El Puerto de Santa María (nel sud della Spagna) in un’importante famiglia di origine inglese, che divenne tutore e “secondo padre” di J.R.R. Tolkien. Un’opera che è il risultato di un’approfondita indagine condotta tra Spagna e Inghilterra, resa possibile anche grazie all’aiuto di Priscilla Tolkien, figlia del famoso scrittore, la cui testimonianza ha fornito dettagli finora inediti sul legame tra suo padre e la Spagna. Conflict is one of the most powerful human interactions. Probably due to its biased utilization, the word "conflict" has become a cursed word. However, this negative vision is only one of the possible perspectives. Actually conflict can be a positive drive for the development of our inner strengths. Precisely one of the intentions of this book is to analyze the conflict and what are the factors and strategies that can minimize its negative consequences and what lines of action it is necessary to adopt to enjoy its benefits, which actually exist. The best example is given by a standard team-building process, where in order to actually build a team, we have to go through a "conflict" stage, where all "pieces" may start fitting together. Even more, whether that conflict would not appear, it is the duty of the team leader to sting the members so an actual conflict -albeit non critical- may arise.
What are the fundamentals to consider when we aim at empowering our reports. Is coaching a suitable approach? As a manager, I am responsible for the proper fulfilment of the tasks detailed in my job description. One of those tasks has to do with people management, as in the end, they are the ones that actually will perform most of the operative tasks. In order to achieve it, we, as leaders, can opt whether for ordering and controlling our people or for empowering them. That empowerment can be achieved thru a proper use of coaching techniques. However, in order not to self-deceive, there are a certain rules to be followed, as well as a series of traps to be avoided. That ́s what we propose to explore in this book, the rules and traps of a coaching process.
