On December 23, 2003, as death released her beloved husband, Max, from the ravages of cancer, Mandy Berlins life also changed. Soon after her husband passed away, Mandy began to experience uncanny, even miraculous happenings. As a retired scientist, she approached the mystery the way she had been trained to do--through empirical observation and analysis. She kept meticulous records of the astounding sights and sounds she witnessed. Her documentation also included the stories of stunned loved ones who called her in the days after Max passed. The result is Death Is Not The End, the detailed account of her journey from grief to hope and faith. An agnostic in the years before her husbands death, she knew that these amazing experiences challenged her lack of belief. Time and again, a synchronistic melody would play as an uncanny episode presented itself to awestruck Mandy and others. Here, she invites readers into detailed accounts of more than fifty experiences beyond natural explanation. On the one-year anniversary of her beloved Maxs departure, another life-changing event opened Mandys eyes to a startling promise, and a new way of living/being. Was Max really gone forever? One year after he died, just minutes before the time recorded on her husbands death certificate, Mandy witnessed a mind-numbing event that had the effect of solidifying her awe-inspiring experiences. She now embraces a new understanding of life, death, and the subtle boundaries between, and shares it all in this memoir.
This book focuses on how Irish remembrance of the First World War impacted the emerging Irish identity in the postcolonial Irish Free State. While all combatants of the “war to end all wars” commemorated the war, Irish memorial efforts were fraught with debate over Irish identity and politics that frequently resulted in violence against commemorators and World War I veterans. The book examines the Flanders poppy, the Victory and Armistice Day parades, the National War Memorial, church memorials, and private remembrances. Highlighting the links between war, memory, empire and decolonization, it ultimately argues that the Great War, its commemorations, and veterans retained political potency between 1914 and 1937 and were a powerful part of early Free State life.

From a State Department-arranged German sex hotel to costly, unsubstantiated investigations brought on by anonymous sources, Y'all Fired shows readers the unfortunate reality of a young woman’s fight to institute America First reforms and what the permanent government of DC will do to resist it. Buckle up, because this gets personal. Y'all Fired: A Southern Belle’s Guide to Restoring Federalism and Draining the Swamp provides an insider account of an outsider’s service in the Trump Administration. It brings to life first-hand experiences of deep state bullying and the frustrating reality of having few tools to effectively push back. Having grown up in small-town Mississippi where people treat people with courtesy and believe in America’s constitutional tradition, life within the modern Deep State was a wakeup call for Mandy Gunasekara. Where some political appointees cut and run, and others find ways to simply blend in by “going native,” this small-town girl is determined to fix it. Y'all Fired cuts through the politics and provides a substantive assessment of how we got here by explaining the enduring institutional challenges to reform, including passage of the Sixteenth Amendment that forever changed the relationship between the federal government and the states, and the broken promises of FDR’s New Deal. This blend of personal anecdotes alongside policy solutions is not about revenge for the unfortunate souls that never learned their manners; it’s a reckoning for the American people to finally institute overdue reforms.
This book aims to examine legal responses to domestic violence in a holistic way. In England and Wales, as in other jurisdictions, much attention has been paid to the criminal justice response to domestic violence. The response of the civil justice system has not been ignored, but has been somewhat marginalized. Legal Responses to Domestic Violence takes a systematic approach to examining legal responses, encompassing the full range of decision makers within the legal system to analyze developments in substantive law and practice, in particular the movement towards an integrated justice approach.
This title has been written with a very simple aim in mind - to provide a text which will enable the English legal system to be taught as an interesting, intellectually stimulating course.
Recipes, Spells, and Wisdom from the Hedgerow Once upon a time the witch held a place of esteem in the village; her knowledge of local plants and wayside herbs were used to heal; her wisdom and empathy made her the village matchmaker and marriage counselor; and her ability to commune with nature and animals gave her a place of revelry and wisdom. She was the Hedgewitch. Aimed at the busy witch, who is both breadmaker and breadwinner, this book revives the spirit of the Hedgewitch and teaches you how to make every day one full of wisdom, healing, and magic. For the practicing or would-be witch whose life is more jeans, chaos, and the never-ending question of what’s for dinner than it is black robes, cauldrons, and incantations, Mandy Mitchell has a recipe for you! “I want to demonstrate how daily chores can become magical rituals with the potential to enrich and transform your life—everything from the way we form relationships with our families and friends to cooking, cleaning, and healing.”—from the introduction Journey through the wheel of the year with one eye on the kettle and the other on the magical!
Included in this volume is a broad range of topics. Immunology is such a diverse field that many of the subspecialties overlap, and one finds it convenient and necessary to integrate information from several of them. We try to focus on the molecular aspects of immunology as much as is reasonable, but some con tributions consist of ablend of molecular and cellular immunology and even immunopathology. This is as it should be, since information at the molecular level often provides an explanation of phenomena observed at other levels. Myelin basic protein holds the interest of immunologists because it is impli cated in the induction of the autoimmune disease called experimental allergie encephalomyelitis (EAE). Although much biochemical and immunological information about this protein has been uncovered, it is not understood how such an inaccessible self-antigen can serve as the focal point in the central ner vous system for myelin basic protein-specific EAE-inducing T cells. Day dis cusses the problem by first reviewing the sequences of the proteins from several species and the antigenicity of the proteins and peptides derived from them. The reader is then led into a thorough discussion of the immunological relation ships that do and do not influence development of the encephalitis. From this discussion, the author promulgates the bystander model as the best overall mechanism to explain why different fragments of the highly conserved protein are needed by various species to give rise to the same type of localized central nervous system disease.
