The novel is speaking about the archeologist Fhd, who spent his childhood at the oasis and was taught archeology by Aschraf Azaam. He met Habeba, an American lady with Egyptian roots, who possessed a map left to her by her grandfather. He discovered symbols which denoted that AbdelRahman, the grandpa of Habeba, wrote messages for his offspring on the walls of the oasis caves. But that wasnt all. What Fhd didnt state to Habeba is that the map denoted also the presence of a secret city near the oasis. Through the sequence of events, he was able to reach that city, where he met people coming from different cultures, who narrated for him their tales, revealing the unity between mankind, yet Fhd started to search for an exit as he felt that the city was beyond him. Everyone was narrating his story, but he couldnt do the same. He wanted to keep his pains and secrets within his heart, so would he find an exit? The answer is inside.
How Western donor assistance can both help and undermine democracy in different parts of the world Democracy promotion is a central pillar of the foreign policy of many states, but the results are often disappointing. In Promoting Democracy, Manal A. Jamal examines why these efforts succeed in some countries, but fail in others. A former journalist and researcher in the Palestinian territories, she offers an up-close perspective of the ways in which Western donor funding has, on one hand, undermined political participation in cases such as the Palestinian territories, and, on the other hand, succeeded in bolstering political engagement in cases such as El Salvador. Based on five fieldwork trips and over 150 interviews with grassroots activists, political leaders, and directors and program officers in donor agencies and NGOs, Jamal brings into focus an often-overlooked perspective: the experiences of those directly affected by this assistance. Promoting Democracy makes an important and timely argument about how political settlements ultimately shape democracy promotion efforts, and what political choices Western state sponsored donors can make to maximize successful outcomes in different contexts across the world.
A memoir by a Saudi Arabian woman who became the unexpected leader of a movement to support women's rights describes how fundamentalism influenced her radical religious beliefs until her education, a job, and legal contradictions changed her perspectives.
This is a historical novel, speaking about a critical period in the sixteenth century, connecting Granada to Egypt. Dorra, a carpet weaver, her grandson Maa-alzahab, and her sister Sahar are the main characters that represent Granada. Ibrahem, the son of the head of merchants of Cairo, is the main character that represents Egypt. Through the sequence of events, Ibrahem travels to Granada and meets Dorra, her grandson, and her sister, and there they exchange their tales, joys, fears, hopes. As you turn the pages, you will be oriented of the struggle between exclusion, seclusion due to ideological differences from one side and open minds from the other side, represented by the great Arabian philosophers, Sufis who were stated in the novel as Averroes, Ibn-Arabi and Ibn-Tofail. It is a story about human beings who loved life, were eager for every drop of it, yet were oppressed. That period was critical. The author sets a question: "Who would have the upper hand life or oppression?" The answer isnt easy.
