This book is a very readable exposition of the modern theory of topological dynamics and presents diverse applications to such areas as ergodic theory, combinatorial number theory and differential equations. There are three parts: 1) The abstract theory of topological dynamics is discussed, including a comprehensive survey by Furstenberg and Glasner on the work and influence of R. Ellis. Presented in book form for the first time are new topics in the theory of dynamical systems, such as weak almost-periodicity, hidden eigenvalues, a natural family of factors and topological analogues of ergodic decomposition. 2) The power of abstract techniques is demonstrated by giving a very wide range of applications to areas of ergodic theory, combinatorial number theory, random walks on groups and others. 3) Applications to non-autonomous linear differential equations are shown. Exposition on recent results about Floquet theory, bifurcation theory and Lyapanov exponents is given.
This book provides detailed fundamental treatment of the underlying physics and operational characteristics of most commonly used semi-conductor devices, covering diodes and bipolar transistors, opto-electronic devices, junction field-effect transistors, and MOS transistors. In addition, basic circuits utilising diodes, bipolar transistors, and field-effect transistors are described, and examples are presented which give a good idea of typical performance parameters and the associated waveforms. A brief history of semiconductor devices is included so that the student develops an appreciation of the major technological strides that have made today’s IC technology possible. Important concepts are brought out in a simple and lucid manner rather than simply stating them as facts. Numerical examples are included to illustrate the concepts and also to make the student aware of the typical magnitudes of physical quantities encountered in practical electronic circuits. Wherever possible, simulation results are included in order to present a realistic picture of device operation. Fundamental concepts like biasing, small-signal models, amplifier operation, and logic circuits are explained. Review questions and problems are included at the end of each chapter to help students test their understanding. The book is designed for a first course on semiconductor devices and basic electronic circuits for the undergraduate students of electrical and electronics engineering as well as for the students of related branches such as electronics and communication, electronics and instrumentation, computer science and engineering, and information technology.

Over the last decade, the topics of corruption and recovery of its proceeds have steadily risen in the international policy agenda, with the entry into force of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) in 2005, the Arab Spring in 2011, and most recently a string of scandals in the financial sector. As states decide how best to respond to corruption and recover assets, the course of action most often discussed is criminal investigation and prosecution rather than private lawsuits. But individuals, organizations, and governments harmed by corruption are also entitled to recover lost assets and/or receive compensation for the damage suffered. To accomplish these goals of recovery and compensation, private or 'civil' actions are often a necessary and useful complement to criminal proceedings. This study explores how states can act as private litigants to bring lawsuits to recover assets lost to corruption.

Pedagogical features including solved problems and unsolved exercises are interspersed throughout the text for better understanding. The textbook is primarily written for senior undergraduate and graduate students in the field of electrical engineering, electronics and communications engineering for courses on power quality/power system/power electronics. The textbook will be accompanied by teaching resource including solution manual for the instructors.
This textbook is written as a basic introduction to Quantum Mechanics for use by the undergraduate students in physics, who are exposed to this subject for the first time. Providing a gentle introduction to the subject, it fills the gap between the available books which provide comprehensive coverage appropriate for postgraduate courses and the ones on Modern Physics which give a rather incomplete treatment of the subject leaving out many conceptual and mathematical details. The author sets out with Planck’s quantum hypothesis and takes the student along through the new concepts and ideas, providing an easy-to-understand description of core quantum concepts and basic mathematical structures. The fundamental principles and the mathe-matical formalism introduced, are amply illustrated through a number of solved examples. Chapter-end exercises and review questions, generally designed as per the examination pattern, serve to reinforce the material learnt. Chapter-end summaries capture the key points discussed in the text. Beside the students of physics, the book can also be used by students of chemistry and first-year students of all branches of engineering for gaining a basic understanding of quantum mechanics, otherwise considered a difficult subject.
While numerous studies exist on major South-Asian temples, surprisingly little is known about minor shrines and lesser states . Here fifty-five new documents, in a western-Himalayan script and language, and belonging to a small Siddha shrine, redress this remarkable gap in our knowledge. The documents cover a wide spectrum from revenue grants to those dealing with ritual, pilgrimage, legality and temple-economy thus building a picture of the relationship between state and shrine, and particularly so for the minor centres: their popularity and relationship with major temples; mundane matters; notices, petitions, and law-suits. It becomes clear how lesser states , despite their limited resources, patronized numerous small shrines, along with major temples; and the role played by the Nath-Siddha-ascetics in creating consent-to-rule, acculturation, and constructing hybridity between the Hindu and Tibetan-Buddhist traditions.
The book presents an engineering approach for the development of metamaterials and metasurfaces with emphasis on application in antennas. Primarily intended for the undergraduate students of physics, the book, in its second edition, apprises the students with the fundamentals of quantum mechanics. While retaining the same flow of contents and distinguishing features of the previous edition, the book now encompasses a number of modifications and additions. The author sets out with Planck’s quantum hypothesis and takes the students along through the new concepts and ideas, providing an easy-to-understand description of core quantum concepts and basic mathematical structures. The fundamental principles and the mathematical formalism introduced are amply illustrated through a number of solved examples. Chapter-end exercises and review questions, generally designed as per the examination pattern, serve to reinforce the material learnt. Chapter-end summaries capture the key points discussed in the text. NEW TO THE SECOND EDITION • Incorporates detailed historical introduction to quantum mechanics • Comprises new sections on Time Variation of the Expectation Value of An Observable and Ehrenfest’s Theorem in the respective chapter • Includes several new numerical problems as well as solutions/hints to the existing exercise problems
This volume develops a systematic study of time-dependent control processes. The basic problem of null controllability of linear systems is first considered. Using methods of ergodic theory and topological dynamics, general local null controllability criteria are given. Then the subtle question of global null controllability is studied. Next, the random linear feedback and stabilization problem is posed and solved. Using concepts of exponential dichotomy and rotation number for linear Hamiltonian systems, a solution of the Riccati equation is obtained which has extremely good robustness properties and which also preserves all the smoothness and recurrence properties of the coefficients. Finally, a general version of the local nonlinear feedback stabilization problem is solved.
