Their friends warned them. Colleagues offered alternatives. Her mother tried to talk her out of it. For twenty years, the couple had thrived floating between campuses, ships, and ports, rarely together. Geography was about to become their destiny. The happily married, middle-aged couple had only lived together for eight years yet married for twenty. Joe and Paula Martin's marriage had succeeded even though Joe was away at sea for months while she taught at her small college in Pennsylvania. After decades as captain of sea-going ships, Joe was about to take a shore-side job, 5,000 miles away from Paula. She had a sabbatical and would join him for a year. It would be the first time they'd live together for more than three months at a stretch. And they'd do so in Alaska, on a 33½ foot boat. Floaters travels from central Pennsylvania, along the Alaska Highway, to Juneau, Southeast Alaska, the Inside Passage, and beyond. Joe worked as a Port Captain while searching for a ship's pilot position. Paula worked on her book in between field classes. Alaska travels, wildlife, boat maintenance, conflict avoidance, and dreams of a dog arose during their year together. Would their romance survive the experience? Would their marriage? And would the boat?

Showcasing specific aircraft and highlighting significant missions illuminates the skills and emotions of the men who flew the machines. Bowman does an excellent job recounting stories about battles in the air and decision-making on the ground." The VVA Veteran Martin Bowmans revealing narrative of the aerial conflict in South-East Asia, 1965-1972, which had its beginnings in 1 November 1955, engulfed Viêtnam, Laos, and Cambodia and only ended with the fall of Sàigòn on 30 April 1975 has resulted from decades of painstaking fact-finding as well as detailed correspondence with surviving aircrew incorporating a wealth of first-hand accounts, some never told before, supported by dozens of rare and unusual photographs. Together they describe in adrenalin-pumping accuracy the furious aerial battles of a long suffering and bitter war in South-East Asia and in particular the frontline action in the skies over Vietnam that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. They too will find a new and useful perspective on a conflict that cost the Americans 58,022 dead and brought the USA worldwide condemnation for its role in Southeast Asia. Nearly 2,500 Americans remained missing. This work serves as a tribute to the courageous pilots who flew the F-104 Starfighter in the Widowmakers war and B-52 bomber crews on Arc Light Linebacker II strikes and the eleven days of Christmas which ultimately ended the aerial campaign against North Viêtnam. And as well, strike aircraft such as the USAF F-4 Phantom and the F-105 Thud and the US Navy carrier-borne jet and propeller-driven strike aircraft and the Americans sworn enemy, the North Vi?tnamese MiG fighters, feature large, from Rolling Thunder onwards. Equally, the Hueys and Chinooks and other notable work horses that participated on combat assaults or Ash & Trash missions and transports like the C-130 Herky-Bird, C-123 Provider, Caribou and Viêtnamese C-47 - the Haulers On Call - that performed sterling service during the gruelling air campaign are not forgotten either. Here, at first hand, are their stories which also include some of the less publicised American forces like the pilots and crewmen who flew the Bird Dogs and all manner of helicopters as well as the largely forgotten Australian and New Zealand Air Force units and the Anzac Battalions whose valuable contributions are too often overlooked. So too is the cost in human misery, death and destruction.
For several centuries Cape Town has accommodated a great variety of musical genres which have usually been associated with specific population groups living in and around the city. Musical styles and genres produced in Cape Town have therefore been assigned an "identity" which is first and foremost social. This volume tries to question the relationship established between musical styles and genres, and social - in this case pseudo-racial - identities. In Sounding the Cape, Denis-Constant Martin recomposes and examines through the theoretical prism of creolisation the history of music in Cape Town, deploying analytical tools borrowed from the most recent studies of identity configurations. He demonstrates that musical creation in the Mother City, and in South Africa, has always been nurtured by contacts, exchanges and innovations whatever the efforts made by racist powers to separate and divide people according to their origin. Musicians interviewed at the dawn of the 21st century confirm that mixture and blending characterise all Cape Town's musics. They also emphasise the importance of a rhythmic pattern particular to Cape Town, the ghoema beat, whose origins are obviously mixed. The study of music demonstrates that the history of Cape Town, and of South Africa as a whole, undeniably fostered creole societies. Yet, twenty years after the collapse of apartheid, these societies are still divided along lines that combine economic factors and "racial" categorisations. Martin concludes that, were music given a greater importance in educational and cultural policies, it could contribute to fighting these divisions and promote the notion of a nation that, in spite of the violence of racism and apartheid, has managed to invent a unique common culture.

The Truth About Sex and Waiting ... Uncovered and Revealed Purity. Sex. Boys. Waiting. Something about those words makes everything complex in a heartbeat. Is there something wrong with me if I don’t kiss a boy after a date? Or am I doomed if I did? Is waiting a one-way trip to life as a crazy cat woman? And what if I, um, think about a certain boy a certain way? It seems the lady at church and your friends have two very different opinions on the subject. And the purity talks aren’t always cutting it. Bekah Hamrick Martin knows the waiting game isn’t easy or straight-forward. In The Bare Naked Truth, she lays everything on the table—including some embarrassing moments—as she explores the honest, naked truth behind what God means by purity. With additional entries from popular authors, you’ll see the bare naked approach to waiting isn’t always easy, but it’s worth the risk.

She was like a volcano that was about to erupt, but somehow and very unusual for Maria, she didn’t erupt. For although she wanted to rant and rave and screech and squabble and stamp her feet and wave her arms, she knew that at this time it was important, if their plan was to succeed, to stay calm and quiet.”
