Writing about the Holocaust and writing for young readers evoke two quite separate sets of concerns which are not always mutually compatible. The first half of Representing the Holocaust focuses on how literary material can present historically verifiable material. The second half examines how such materials will be perceived by young readers; whether they will be able to determine any boundaries between fictionality and factuality, and what motivates young readers to keep reading. The work concludes by placing the study in the context of Holocaust education.
Drinking from the Same Well is designed for those who seek a praxis-oriented theological grounding in the exploration of cross-cultural perspectives in the field of pastoral care and counseling. It traverses the broad terrain of cultural analysis and also explores in depth a number of discrete cross-cultural issues in pastoral counseling, related to communication, conflict, empathy, family dynamics, suffering, and healing. Cultural analysis and theological reflection are situated alongside numerous case studies of persons and situations that enflesh the concepts being discussed, and readers are invited to engage personally with the material through a variety of focus questions and reflective exercises. This book can serve as a helpful textbook for seminarians and a useful guide for pastors and priests, church study groups, multicultural parishes, and anyone engaged in helping ministries with persons from other cultures. The goal is to develop culturally competent pastoral caregivers by providing a comprehensive and practical overview of the generative themes and challenges in cross-cultural pastoral care.

Paris, 1871. Four young people will rewrite their destinies. Paris is in revolt. After months of siege at the hands of the Prussians, a wind of change is blowing through the city, bringing with it murmurs of a new revolution. Alone and poverty-stricken, sixteen-year-old Zéphyrine is quickly lured in by the ideals of the city's radical new government, and she finds herself swept away by its promises of freedom, hope, equality and rights for women. But she is about to be seduced for a second time, following a fateful encounter with a young violinist. Anatole's passion for his music is soon swiftly matched only by his passion for this fierce and magnificent girl. He comes to believe in Zéphyrine's new politics - but his friends are not so sure. Opera singer Marie and photographer Jules have desires of their own, and the harsh reality of life under the Commune is not quite as enticing for them as it seems to be for Anatole and Zéphyrine. And when the violent reality of revolution comes crashing down at their feet, can they face the danger together - or will they be forced to choose where their hearts really lie?

The first thing Anna noticed was the great aroma of coffee coming from the kitchen. Sam must be early she thought. She jumped from bed and yelled down the stairs, " Sorry Sam, I will be right there just let me grab a shower." That being said she was quite surprised to find a tall handsome stranger in her kitchen staring out the window. He was at least 6' 3" with black hair pulled into a tail at the nape of his neck that hung to the middle of his back. He looked like a man used to hard work a
Readers of this book will discover amazing variety, not only in themes, but also in poetic style. Lydia herself invented a three-syllable line of carefree verse that she employed in her "August Love in Tennessee". Her poems are a veritable visual feast much like a painting, owing to her adroit use of descriptive terms. The author has mastered the art of poetic storytelling, as well. We witness the character of five individuals unfold in a three-page poem. See "A Mother's Quilt". Lydia's poems are decidedly upbeat and reflect the joyful hope that characterizes her life as a Christian.

An autobiographic story, "From Polders To Skyscrapers" describes life in the Netherlands during the 1930s and during WWII. In May 1940 Holland was invaded by Germany. After two years, the German occupation had forced many changes upon the citizens of Holland. A Dutch Underground Organization was created which would sabotage many of the German regulations. My youngest brother, an Underground Courier, was arrested in 1942, tried and condemned to five years in a political prisoners camp in Siegburg, Germany. In the Spring of 1945 Allied troops freed the prisoners and Rob became an interpreter for several months before returning home. Ultimately, he and a friend emigrated to the U.S. where he got married and visited Holland in 1948 to introduce his bride. He suggested I apply for a Visa to the U.S., and he would sponsor me. I emigrated in November 1952. A marriage lasting nine years preceded my career at a fiber company in Wilmington Delaware. A second marriage lasting five years made me a widow. Living in Washington D.C., my High School friend Henk Wackwitz contacted me inviting me to move to Van Alstyne Texas. I did, and we lived there more than twenty years until Henk passed away. My son Mike and his wife, who reside in Austin, Texas thought I might like to live there but lacking friends, my daughter instead proposed I move to Florida instead which I did in 2010. I now live happily in a lovely apartment in a Retirement Community in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Life is good!
