A member of the Arte Povera group, Luciano Fabro used simple materials from everyday life in his sculptural works as well as valuable classical material such as marble, bronze or Murano glass. In the same way he understood how to join a simple sheet of paper, a copper pole or a twine of ivy into delicate, poignant forms and make of them a new vocabulary. In the formal diversity of his work, drawings assumed a special status. They were for Fabro, as for other artists of his generation, a significant conceptual tool. However, he didn't sell his drawings but gave them away, so that the examples shown in this book have been unavailable to the public till now. Those from the estate of Johannes Gachnang, a close friend of Fabro's, as well as the drawings derived from the artist's family holdings show an astonishing complexity in which the thoughtful, but also poetic and humorous nature of Fabro finds expression.
The first complete monograph devoted to Luciano Rigolini's photography. This volume offers a wealth of previously unpublished large-format works, a reinterpretation of anonymous photographs, and documents uncovered in forgotten archives, flea markets, or purchased from antique dealers.
If music could lower the price of bread we wouldn't need it any more." This fascinating volume provides two sets of interviews with the renowned Italian composer, Luciano Berio who himself edited the transcripts for this edition. These two insightful interviews cover a broad range of topics: Balmonte asks about Berio's early life and development before going into a detailed examination of his major instrumental works of the 1960s -- the Sequenzas, Chemins and Sinfonia, followed by an examination of his involvement with electronic music in the 1970s. Varga discusses Berio's vocal and theatrical work, and the interaction of music, language and movement, moving on afterwards to discuss wider questions about the value and function of music. This edition also includes a short biography and a complete list of Berio's works as well as previously unpublished photographs and musical notations. - Back cover.
