In this report the Transport Committee calls on the Government to publish a White Paper on its transport strategy, explaining in particular how spending on transport will deliver economic growth and development. Such a strategy must set objectives for all transport spending and explain the criteria Ministers will use to decide between different claims on limited financial resources. The report welcomes the commitment to undertake transport investment that will deliver sustainable growth and enterprise, including 'green' industries, balanced across all sectors and in a manner that will reduce regional disparities. Ministers must however ensure that this vision for transport investment is backed up by a pro-active and fully integrated economic development strategy. This is so far absent. The current Government has swept away the regional tier of planning and many institutions that played a key role in the development of strategic priorities for transport spending in support of economic development. This has created a vacuum that has left regions without the institutions and arrangements they need to plan and prioritise sub-national transport schemes and other significant transport infrastructure. The Coalition also needs a much stronger strategy for developing the UK's major ports and airports. The Government must also do more to correct regional disparities in transport investment. The Department for Transport's 'New Approach To Appraisal' process, which plays such a major role in deciding which transport schemes get Government funding, is highly controversial. Small schemes, including sustainable transport projects, may be cut disproportionately under new transport funding arrangements.

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2023 in the subject Pedagogy - Media Pedagogy, grade: Pass, University of Ulster, language: English, abstract: The perceptions of student teachers on Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) remain underexamined in literature. This mixed methods study explored the perceptions of Modern Language (ML) student teachers to CALL at commencement and completion of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) in 2020/21. These student teachers were in seven institutions across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. It was found that student teachers were less positive about CALL usage at the end of their ITE programmes. Self-directed learning also overtook university education to become the primary channel of CALL knowledge acquisition for student teachers at ITE close. A total of thirty factors were found to influence the CALL behaviours of student teachers. The issue of workload was especially significant in follow-up focus groups. The CALL behaviours of student teachers also diverged from their initial expectations. However, these findings were not a one-size-fits-all for the whole student teacher population. There was evidence of local diversity between and within whole UK jurisdictions. Student teachers collectively suggested twelve recommendations to enhance CALL instruction in Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) courses. This investigation has produced a new and original theoretical framework that depicts the student teacher pathway to CALL adoption. The Student Teacher CAL Acceptance Model (STCAM) has been designed, tested, and refined over the course of my research project.

It tracks the nuanced interplay among South African state controls, the music industry's transnational drive, and the mbaqanga artists' struggles for political, professional, and personal voice. Focusing on the ways artists, producers, and sound engineers collaborate in the studio control room, Meintjes reveals not only how particular mbaqanga sounds are shaped technically, but also how egos and artistic sensibilities and race and ethnicity influence the mix. She analyzes how the turbulent identity politics surrounding Zulu ethnic nationalism impacted mbaqanga artists' decisions in and out of the studio. Conversely, she explores how the global consumption of Afropop and African images fed back into mbaqanga during the recording process. Meintjes is especially attentive to the ways the emotive qualities of timbre (sound quality or tone color) forge complex connections between aesthetic practices and political ideology. Vivid photos by the internationally renowned photographer TJ Lemon further dramatize Meintjes’ ethnography.
