Yet in front of Douglass, “Emperor” Shields Green, a fugitive from South Carolina, accepted John Brown’s invitation. When the raid failed, Emperor was captured with the rest of Brown’s surviving men and hanged on December 16, 1859. “Emperor” Shields Green was a critical member of John Brown’s Harper’s Ferry raiders but has long been overlooked. Thus, it is the origin of mans life. Hence, it is called gate of life. Commenting on Nan Ching, Y Shu said, The spleen takes in the five tastes. It transforms them to produce the five influences . . . and to make flesh and skin grow. Since about 2005, researchers have been astonished to find scent receptors and the five known taste sensors throughout the body smelling and tasting things deep inside of us. These taste and odor receptors have been found in the kidneys, stomach, intestines, pancreas, lungs, brain, spine, bladder, sinuses, muscle tissue, and even the anus. Bitter taste receptors have been found in sperm. Researchers believe these receptors are distributed throughout the entire vascular system. As the Heart controls the blood vessels in TCM, it makes perfect sense that the Heart masters the odors, exactly as ancient TCM scholars state.

In On the Side of My People, Louis A. DeCaro, Jr. offers the first book length religious treatment of Malcolm X. Malcolm X was certainly a political man. Yet he was also a man of Allah, struggling with his salvation—as concerned with redemption as with revolution. Drawing on a wide variety of sources, including extensive interviews with Malcolm's oldest brother, FBI surveillance documents, the black press, and tape-recorded speeches and interviews, DeCaro examines the charismatic leader from the standpoint of his two conversion experiences--to the Nation while he was in jail and to traditional Islam climaxing in his pilgrimage to Mecca.
