Sonic ethnography makes a compelling argument for taking sound seriously as a crucial component of social life and as an ethnographic form of representation. This volume explores the role of sound-making and listening practices in the formation of local identities in the southern Italian region of Basilicata. With an approach that cuts across sensory anthropology, sound studies and ethnomusicology, Sonic ethnography demonstrates how acoustic tradition is made and disrupted and acoustic communities are brought together in shared temporality and space. Based extensive research, this volume provides an innovative take on soundful cultural performances such as tree rituals, carnivals, pilgrimages and more informal musical performances, with particular attention to the interactions between classic ethnographic scholarship from the past century and the local politics of heritage. Featuring stunning colour photographs and more than an hour of sound recordings, Sonic ethnography uses a unique combination of media to investigate distinctive ways of knowing, beyond more traditional ethnographic forms of representation. Two methodological chapters, respectively on music-making as creative research practice and on photo-ethnography, make the book an essential contribution for those interested in the production of sounds and still images as relational and interactive approaches to fieldwork. The pioneering anthropologist of sound, Steven Feld, collaborated to some of the research and contributed to the book an afterword and a soundscape composition.
Skin Lymphoma: The Illustrated Guide presents a templated, easy to follow approach to the diagnosis of this challenging condition. Hundreds of outstanding full colour images, carefully chosen for their clinical relevance, are complemented by a standard chapter format which covers clinical features, histopathology, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. Teaching cases throughout the text highlight examples of particular interest for trainees, and summary boxes highlight key points for quick review. This new fourth edition has been fully updated in line with new WHO classifications, and includes over 100 new photographs. The Pseudolymphomas section has been greatly expanded, with separate chapters for each type to assist in differential diagnosis, and new “Unconventional Features” are included throughout the book.
Satellite Interferometry Data Interpretation and Exploitation: Case Studies from the European Ground Motion Service (EGMS) focuses on the interpretation and exploitation of data obtained from InSAR, thus enabling millimeter-scale deformation measurements from space. The most emblematic InSAR service, the European Ground Motion Service (EGMS), opens a wide range of new applications. However, for effective use of raw data, interpretation techniques and methods are required. This book presents interpretation protocols that can be applied to any InSAR data, as well as the most relevant technical aspects and boundaries of measurement points. Detailed case studies are reviewed to demonstrate points. This book will be a valuable resource for remote sensing specialists, as well as non-specialists in geotechnics, geology and other geosciences who are looking to apply InSAR data techniques in their research. - Provides user-oriented techniques for better understanding of the applications of InSAR and the European Ground Motion Service (EGMS) - Features case studies based on manipulation of EGMS data, thus showing new applications of InSAR data interpretation - Details InSAR and EGMS potential and limitations for the exploitation of InSAR data
