Simply gorgeous! Lloyd Larson has crafted a flexible, singable cantata in 3 suites, one each for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany. Perform each suite individually (7-10 minutes) throughout the season, or present the entire work as a special 30-minute Christmas program. Suggestions for the observance of seasonal customs, such as the lighting of Advent candles or the presentation of gifts, are included. Filled with delightful carols and scripture narration, The Christmas Promise also includes optional congregation and children's choir participation.
Eighty feet long, built of layered mahogany and powered by three monstrous 1500-horsepower V-12 engines, the US Navy’s Patrol Torpedo (PT) boats screamed across the water at over forty knots. They were not only fast, but also armed to the teeth, bristling with a deadly array of machine guns, automatic cannons, torpedoes, and depth charges. Duty aboard the boats was often reserved for the spirited, the aggressive, and the very young, the average age of a PT sailor being twenty-four years of age. The “mosquito boats” carried out a variety of missions during the war, including scouting and reconnaissance, attacking enemy shipping, search and rescue, interdiction of supply routes, strafing of enemy shore installations, supporting coast watchers and special operations forces, and even putting armed crew members ashore to perform commando-style raids on far-flung enemy outposts. The boats were used in every theater of the Second World War, but they are most famous for their daring exploits in the South Pacific, where they were the US Navy’s first line of defense against the “Tokyo Express,” the nightly attacks of Japanese destroyers against American forces on Guadalcanal. Dark Nights, Deadly Waters tells the story of the first PT boats deployed to the fetid and malarial island of Tulagi, in the desperate early days of America’s “island hopping” campaign across the Pacific. Using a gritty and evocative narrative style—citing first-hand accounts, after-action reports, and official navy documents—author Keith Warren Lloyd describes in vivid detail the austere conditions under which the sailors lived and worked, and the highly dangerous nocturnal missions they performed.

By revisiting some of the classics of the genre and offering critical readings of their distinctive qualities and shades of meaning, Purdy celebrates their dynamic literary qualities. Interwoven with this personal reflection on the last thirty years of work in the genre are interviews with prominent Native American scholars and writers (including Paula Gunn Allen, Simon Ortiz, Gerald Vizenor, Sherman Alexie, and Louis Owens), who offer their own insights about Native literatures and the future of the genre. In this book their voices provide the original, central conversation that leads to read.
With the collapse of the government after the Second World War, Americans have learned to live without help or interference from police, lawyers and bureaucrats. In this simple and happy world lives an eleven-year-old boy who wants to be a scientist. He finds a plant that can produce uranium which he and his friends set about to put to good use. The plant mysteriously disappears without a trace until the young scientist and his friends discover a secret operation run by desperate men. The boys' discovery leads them to a murder and a kidnapping. What will the little town of Vancouver, Washington, with no police, no court and no jail, do with a crime of this magnitude? Can they cope with the crisis this miraculous bush brings on? The missing item eventually turns up in the most unlikely of places, but in the end they discover that the real wonder isn't the plant.

Genesis, Creation, and Creationism' is an important new study that explores all sides of the creationism debate and gives a sound and spiritually rich way of understanding the creation stories of Genesis. -------------------- Creationism is an ardently proclaimed and widely held point of view, involving both scientific and biblical data. While much has been written about Òscientific creationism, much less is available about its counterpart, Òbiblical creationism. 'Genesis, Creation, and Creationism' provides this much-needed evaluation of creationism by uniquely allowing the Bible to speak for itself. Author Lloyd R. Bailey, who is a biblical scholar and also holds a degree in physics, begins his investigation by inviting all sides of the creationism debate to set aside their prejudices for or against the theory of evolution and read the biblical story of creation in Genesis (1:1-2, 4a). He then examines the creationist phenomenon and compares this data with the agenda of the Òyoung earth creationist. All the while, Bailey enhances the Bible's ability to speak for itself by withholding judgment on many of the assumptions of historical-critical biblical scholarship (for example, the date and authorship of Genesis). The result is a scientifically straightforward study of Genesis that explicitly answers fundamentalist questions on creationism. 'Genesis, Creation, and Creationism' is a thought-provoking study on the relationship of science and religion that speaks to all Christian denominations. It provides excellent resource material for high school science classes, religion classes, and for seminarians engaged in biblical studies.
War is cruel and bloody, achieving the most important objective. When ordered to neutralize the Nazi Red Dragon Tails mysterious chemical weapon, Bobby Ray, Peggy Jean Madison, Thomas Clinton, and Richard Davenport quickly recognized Red Dragon Tails terrifying evils. The year is 1941. Hitler is devastating Europe, while Imperial Japan is conquering Asia. A weapon is needed to halt the bloody flow. However, such a destructive system does exist. But there are troubles. Red Dragon Tail hasnt been used for two thousand years. The chemical formulation will have to be rediscovered, and Nazi Germany is actively experimenting with it. If Western civilization is to survive, it falls upon the Allied agents to not only properly blend the powders but also stop the Nazis from using it. At times, both options seemed impossible.

Early Acclaim for The Button Therapy Book Improve Your Quality of Life and Parenting Skills The Button Therapy Book has made an incredible difference in my attitude and my life. I am able to relax more and don't get as uptight or angry as I used to. I have always been a person who had my "Buttons pushed" fairly easily and now I understand how to identify my Buttons, address them in a calm and loving way and most importantly, get rid of them. I've also been able to take the information given in the book and pass it on to my children to help them overcome their "Buttons." Dr. Goodwin gives the reader all the tools they need to live happier, healthier lives, starting immediately! I highly recommend this book, it is a must for any person who is interested in improving his or her quality of life and getting rid of those buttons! Jodie Wilkerson from Greenville, NC Get Ready to Unbutton and Be Free! Button Therapy, a 'MUST HAVE' for any mental health professional and/or the lay person. I have found many insights in this book and I have recommended it to just about everyone I know. I think that Dr. Goodwin has hit the 'button on the head', and has loosened it's thread with his insightful, caring explanation of our 'Buttons' and how to deal with them. I find myself referring to it regularly in my business. Thanks Lloyd, I am happier, my clients are happier and we all understand others and ourselves better now that we have read your book. We will all be looking forward to your next work! Suzanne Osborne, Ph.D., Clinical Psychologist, Forensic Psychologist, Criminal Profiler, Counselor from North Myrtle Beach, SC A Model for Personal and Spiritual Growth The Button Therapy Book is a creative synthesis of Eastern and Western models for personal and spiritual growth. An incredible compilation and synthesis of psychological self-help techniques. You would have to read 10 books to get the information and number of self-help techniques presented in this book. I've personally benefited from applying this practical six-step self-help model to some of my Buttons. The chapter titled "30 Seeds for Your Mind's Garden" is worth the price of this book alone. The "30 Seeds" are guidelines that have been helpful in my journey of personal and spiritual growth. Planting these "life-enhancing seeds" into the gardens of our minds enables us to become more conscious, aware, loving, and compassionate. This is simply the best psychological self-help book I've ever read. I've already recommended this book to my friends. An excellent read! Patricia Pollard, M.P.A., Administrator from Health Sciences Personnel, Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University, Greenville, NC Button Therapy Book: Good for Self-Helpers and Professionals Goodwin has written a very readable book, which includes a thorough compilation of respected authors, therapists, and philosophers. Those views, augmented with his many years of counseling experience, provide a useful theoretical and practical book for both the mental health professional as well as the individual seeking a good self-help reference and guide, including inventories in the appendix. Stephen K. Creech, Ph.D., Mental Health Professional and Musician from Winterville, NC. Button Therapy I was excited to see three decades of counseling theories, approaches, and strategies in mind-body therapy, brought together in one resource that is readable and accessible for either the lay-reader or counseling professional. This book is unique because it combines psychological research with very usable self-assessments and self-help techniques that can be applied in the "real world". The element that I found most helpful are the "30 Seeds for Your Mind's Garden" in Chapter 21. This presents a summary and cognitive guideline of living life most effectively to its fullest potential. Mark Stebnicki, Rh.D., LPC, CRC, CDMS Professor and Director, Rehabilitation Counselor Education Program, East Carolina University, Greenville, NC A Fantastic Book A super way to learn how to deal with all the Buttons and Button-Pushers in your life. Learn to be a happier, healthier and hopefully a better person all around. Ned Petrak, Financial Advisor, Goldsboro, NC CONGRATULATIONS!!! Congratulations Dr. Goodwin! You've done a wonderful job. I like the holistic nature of this cognitive behavior therapy model. The vast majority of clients I have worked with, see themselves as pawns in this world being blown from one situation to the other with minimal control. They often experience their emotions and actions as responsive to external forces rather than behavioral choices over which they have control. The Button Therapy Book teaches that the locus of most situations is internal and therefore, under our control. Most of us are spiritually empty. I am very positive that they will be able to fill that spiritual void by reading The Button Therapy Book. I will recommend this book to any mental health professional I know. Agyenim A-Boateng, M.S., CRC, CCAS, LPC, Mental Health Professional from Pinehurst, NC An Excellent Guide To Feeling Good! The Button Therapy Book provides techniques that will immediately lift your spirits and help you develop a positive outlook on life. Everyone has Buttons and Button-Pushers. Dr. Goodwin provides a framework to recognize the cognitions (i.e. thoughts, beliefs, etc.) attached to Buttons that produce negative results. Through the 21 Button removal strategies described in the book empowerment is accessible. A great "tool box" for those working in the mental health field as well as for anyone seeking personal growth. If you have the desire to dance to the music of the universe instead of dancing every time somebody pushes your Buttons, buy it, read it, you deserve it! Sharon Williams from Washington, NC Tired of Getting Your Buttons Pushed? The Button Therapy Book is an excellent 'life enhancement manual'. I highly recommend it. Its foundations are based on the teachings of Buddha, Jesus Christ and Ken Keyes Jr. The Button Therapy Book also nicely wraps up the 'best of the best' literature from prominent psychologists, philosophers, and modern day shamans. The fewer 'Buttons
When Charles Lindbergh's baby son was mysteriously taken from his home near Hopewell, New Jersey, in 1932, the world was shocked. It happened during the worst period of the great Depression, at a time when kidnapping neared epidemic proportions across the nation. Despite the overwhelming publicity the case received both at the time and in all the years since, many controversies surrounding the Crime of the Century and the subsequent trial have never been resolved. This is a comprehensive study of the Lindbergh kidnapping, investigation and trial, placing it in the context of the Depression, when many feared the country was on the edge of anarchy. confusing. These include Lindbergh's dealings with crime baron Owney Madden, Al Capone's New York counterpart, through gangland intemediaries, as well as the inexplicable exploits of John Condon, a retired schoolteacher who became the prosecution's chief witness. The initial investigation was hampered by Colonel Lindbergh, who insisted that the police not attempt to find the perpetrator because he feared the investigation would endanger his son's life. He relented only when the child was found dead. Hauptmann, was discovered to have some of the ransom money in his possession. Hauptmann was arrested, tried and sentenced to death. Throughout the book, Gardner pays special attention to the evidence of the case and how it was used and misused in the trial. Whether Hauptmann was guilty or not, Gardner concludes that there was most likely insufficient evidence to convict him of first-degree murder. I Am the Big Red Barn, part I, begins this trilogy. It is a factual fantasy of the life and times of Big Red, told in his own words when it was discovered by a three-year-old boy that this sixty-five-foot majestic barn could telepathically converse with him. Yes, walls can talk, and Big Red tells his life story from the time he was constructed in 1919 on a small dairy farm in Mormon Country, Utah, until it approached its one hundredth birthday. The Impossible Campaign, part II, contains a series of articles and stories based on the authors perspective, which depict the phenomenal circumstances surrounding a nonexperienced politician yet successful business mogul who lays waste to a field of career Republican presidential politicians, captured every news cycle for over eleven months, and consequently created a ground-swell movement by millions of his supporters to become victorious in his primary campaign. 2021 Our New World Horizon, part III, continues where part I left off and continues to the futuristic time of 2021 when Big Red became the inspirational conduit to help change the entire landscape by creating a new world horizon.
Contributors describe the current understanding of abrupt climate variations that have occurred at millennial to submillennial time scales, events now recognized as characteristics of the global climate during the last glaciation. Subjects covered include analysis of modern climate and ocean dynamics, paleoclimate reconstructions derived from the marine, terrestrial and ice core records, and paleoclimate modeling studies. The breadth of global paleoclimate knowledge presented here provides information required to answer many questions and provides a road map to address remaining problems. In 1982 the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation created a small committee-the Justice Program Study Group (whose membership is listed at the end ofthis preface)-and posed to it what can hardly be regarded as an easy ques tion: "What ideas, what concepts, what basic intellectual frameworks are lack ing" to understand and to more effectively deal with crime in our society? Those who are acquainted with the work of the members of the Study Group will appreciate how many divergent views were expressed-divergent to the degree that some of us came to the conclusion that we were not a Study Group at all but rather a group being studied, an odd collection of ancient experimental animals serving some dark purpose of the Foundation. Eventually, however, a surprisingly strong concurrence emerged. We found we were impressed by the extent to which in our discussions we placed heavy reliance on the products of two types of research: first, those few longitudinal studies related to juvenile delinquency and crime that had been pursued in this country and, second, a few experimental studies that had sought to measure the consequences of different official interventions in criminal careers. These two research strategies had taught us much about crime and its control. Other strategies-case studies, cross-sectional surveys, participant observations, and similar techniques-had indeed been productive, but it was the longitudinal and experimental designs that firmed up the knowledge that the others helped to discover.
Based upon global data and following on from Lockdown: Social Harm in the COVID-19 Era, this book discusses the rise of surveillance capitalism and new forms of control and exclusion throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. It particularly addresses the use of vaccine passports, mandates and the new forms of capital extraction and political control that emerged throughout the pandemic. The book also explicates how the ‘vaccine hesitant’ became marginalized in both mainstream discourse and through regulatory interventions. Whilst the book addresses the wider political economy within which so-called ‘anti-vaxxers’ were ostracized, it also explores the complex nature of their sentiments. The book closes by considering The New Futures of Exclusion, outlining the forms of surveillance and control that may be implemented in the future particularly in light of the challenges brought by global warming and the energy transition. It is a broadly accessible text, particularly appealing to policymakers, general readers and academics in sociology, political sociology, politics, human geography, political economy, criminology, social policy, psychology, history, and infectious diseases and medicine.
Some may object to my dogmatic assertions; but I do not apologize for them. Every preacher should believe strongly in his own method; and if I cannot persuade all of the rightness of mine, I can at least stimulate them to think and to consider other possibilities. I can say quite honestly that I would not cross the road to listen to myself preaching, and the preachers whom I have enjoyed most have been very different indeed in their method and style. But my business is not to describe them but to state what I believe to be right, however imperfectly I have put my own precepts into practice. I can only hope that the result will be of some help, and especially to young preachers called to this greatest of all tasks, and especially in these sad and evil times. With many others I pray that 'The Lord of the harvest may thrust forth' many mighty preachers to proclaim 'the unsearchable riches of Christ!
