Its opponents in the botanico-medical movement claimed that herbs and other natural cures were more effective and considerably safer than conventional medicine. They were right. Conventional medicine at the time consisted of ”heroic” doses of mercury and antimony, supplemented by Spanish fly and croton oil, with copious bloodletting as a treatment recommended for everything from mania to miscarriage. By contrast, many of the herbal cures espoused by the new wave of medicine were helpful or at least not actively poisonous. Unfortunately, the botanico-medical movement harbored its share of quacks as well. The history recorded in America's Botanico--Medical Movements includes useless or dangerous treatments as well as petty politics of the worst kind: schisms, public denunciations, physical brawls (with weapons up to and including small cannons), and vicious invective worthy of Hunter Thompson. The favored treatments and pharmacopias of Thomsonians, Neo-Thomsonians, physio-medicalists, and eclectic practitioners are all discussed in detail. Their experiences allows them to become free from the bonds of pride fullness, self-indulgence, low self-esteem, the fear of failure, as well as egomania and cynicism. In Waiting, Paul has become an impatient, status-driven millennial who seems to only be concerned about how best to advance his career after losing the one person that helped keep him morally centered. The change in his personality since losing her has alienated him from close friends and family in favor of less reputable characters. Then one day when he feels his days may be numbered, he meets an old military veteran in the most unlikely of circumstances, and what follows would change his life forever. In Will to Soar, Will Saxby agonizes over what he feels is his "fatal flaw" and can't get past a low opinion of himself, even though he is surrounded by friends and associates in his life that see him entirely differently. When he decides to make a last ditch effort to post for his dream job with help from his mentor and other associates, he is also aided by the dramatic appearance of characters whose own tragedies make his problem seem miniature in scope but whose testimonies and council allows him to see, in dramatic fashion, the man God also sees in him. Inside the Orchard is a story about an overachiever who also suffers from egomania. Edith is so driven that she has become one-dimensional and fixated on a romance with one of her law school professors that can never be realized. She is an A-lister and academic powerhouse by reputation, whose cynical and manipulative nature becomes her calling card. However she's forced to see the world through the eyes of someone who is the polar opposite in appearance and disposition. Someone who is gifted in her own right who chooses to align herself with Edith, in spite of her attitude toward her, because of something quite remarkable that they both share.

At the beginning of the twentieth century Britain was amongst the world leaders in the production of machine tools, yet by the 1980s the industry was in terminal decline. Focusing on the example of Britain's largest machine tool maker, Alfred Herbert Ltd of Coventry, this study charts the wider fortunes of this vital part of the manufacturing sector. Taking a chronological approach, the book explores how during the late nineteenth century the industry developed a reputation for excellence throughout the world, before the challenges of two world wars necessitated drastic changes and reorganisations. Despite meeting these challenges and emerging with confidence into the post-war market place, the British machine tool industry never regained its pre-eminent position, and increasingly lost ground to foreign competition. By using the example of Alfred Herbert Ltd to illuminate the broader economic and business history of the British machine tool industry, this study not only provides a valuable insight into British manufacturing, but also contributes to the ongoing debates surrounding Britain's alleged decline as a manufacturing nation.

Its action packed scenes engage modern military weapons in authentic places. Unlike typical action novels, this plot incorporates the spiritual nature of people and the significant influence that world religions play on the governing of sovereign nations. The themes of national pride and moral values are succinctly questioned. Each apocalyptical scene moves your mind, body and soul into a future realm of terror on a grand scale. Even so, the magnitude of events will not overshadow the value of one human life. Author's Biography Lloyd R. Little Lloyd Little is the third of nine Irish Catholic children. He was born to Laura and Joseph Little in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Catholic grade school in suburban Pennsylvania. At the age of ten, his parents moved to the New Jersey countryside. Lloyd has three college degrees. They include a Master of Arts Degree in education from Glassboro State College, recently renamed Rowan University. He taught in the public schools for eight years and coached numerous sports. During this time, he relocated to the Jersey Shore, opening a small business with his wife Joyce. Ishmael's Apocalypse is a reflection of the faith he received during his Catholic school years and pursued during his adult life. The End Time interpretations in this story incorporate teachings found throughout many world religions.

Seventeenth-century England was a country obsessed with property rights. For only those who owned property were considered to have a vested interest in the maintenance of law, order and social harmony. As such, establishing the ownership of 'things' was a constant concern for all people, and nowhere is this more evident than in the cases of disputed wills. Based on a wealth of surviving evidence from the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, the probate jurisdiction which probated wills of the more wealthy English property owners as well as some of those with a more modest quantity of property, this book investigates what litigation over the validity of wills reveals about the interplay between society and law. The volume investigates, catalogs, and systematizes the legal issues that were raised in will disputes in the Canterbury Court in the last half of the seventeenth century. However, this is not just a book about law and legal practice. The records from which it draws plunge us into deeply personal and often tragic situations, revealing how the last requests of the dead and dying were often ignored or misinterpreted by family, friends and creditors for their own benefit. By focusing on property law as reflected in cases of disputed wills, the book provides a glimpse at a much fuller spectrum of society than is often the case. Even people of relatively modest means were concerned to pass on their possessions, and their cases provide a snapshot of the type of objects owned and social relationships revealed by patterns of bequests. This too is true for women, who despite being denied full participation in many areas of civic life, are frequently encountered as key players in court cases over disputed wills. What emerges from this study is a picture of a society for which notions of law and private property were increasingly intertwined, yet in which courts were less concerned with formality than with ensuring that the intentions of will-makers were properly carried out.
