We only get one life to live. How can we experience the best version of our lives? In His most famous sermon, Jesus uses a remarkable story to teach a critical concept. His story about a wise and foolish builder invites each of us to consider this fundamental question: What am I building my life on? The trusth is, we all build on something -- and the foundation you choose determines the life you live. Many of us want to know what Jesus said about the most important aspects of life and how they apply to us today, but we don't know where to start or how to make sense of it. This book is uniquely designed: to help you discover what the Bible says about life's most important questions, to give you the confidence to know how to read and understand the Bible for yourself, and to create meaningful conversations about how the most important ideas in Scripture apply to our lives. Whether you are joining a Small Group, studying with a friend, or going on the journey as an individual learner, The Foundations Book will not only help you discover what Jesus said, but will also give you simple, actionable steps you can take to practically build your life around His truth.

More commonly, though, they are evidence of the growing trend toward neighborhood organization and community outreach. This movement has been popularized by Wisconsin-based Little Free Library (LFL), whose members currently include 75,000 stewards seeking to build community togetherness and promote reading at the same time by sharing books among neighbors. LFL has inspired builders to use similar structures to share things like CDs, food, garden tools, and seeds in the community. Produced in cooperation with Little Free Library, Little Free Libraries and Tiny Sheds is the builder's complete source of inspiration and how-to knowledge. Illustrated throughout with colorful step-by-step photography and a gallery of tiny structures for further inspiration, Little Free Libraries and Tiny Sheds covers every step: planning and design, tools and building techniques, best materials, and 12 complete plans for structures of varying size and aesthetics. In addition, author and professional carpenter Phil Schmidt includes information on proper installation of small structures and common repairs and maintenance for down the road. Do science and Scripture conflict? Are miracles possible? Is Christian experience real? Why does God allow suffering and evil? In this classic answerbook on Christian faith, Paul E. Little responds to the twelve most common intellectual challenges posed to Christians.
Christianity has been defined and framed by the rulers of kingdoms, civilizations, and governments for thousands of years. A religion started in the name of Jesus is now under more scrutiny than ever, with people being divided over what it means to be humane, to be giving, and to have a good heart. To help ease those divisions, we must go back to the beginning of religion itself. This book takes a deep dive into what the Bible teaches and how those lessons have been interpreted throughout history. The author seeks to answer questions such as: • Will history prove that America has sustained her strength because of God’s grace and favor? • What exactly are Christian principles and what are the origins of these principles? • What does it really mean to “love they neighbor?” • What message did God give to His people to follow? Throughout the book, the author examines the cause and effect of religion—as well as the principles America was founded upon. He argues that if more people understood the Bible, the country would show more love to all of its citizens.

This is a comprehensive analysis of the economics of international aid that provides a systematic framework for understanding, planning, and executing aid programs. Though much has been written on different aspects of international aid, this book was the first to synthesize information on all facets of aid and to investigate the consequences, for both donor and recipient nations, of the transfer of public resources in aid programs. The authors first present the history of aid, discuss the principles that govern aid as practiced by the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, China, the United Nations, and other donors, and then provide a broad theoretical structure in which to discuss particular questions taken up in subsequent chapters. The book systematically covers all aspects of the aid relationship, and in addition to broad coverage of aid programs, analyzes details of the aid relationship to discern the function of the different variables of aid. In one coherent volume, International Aid outlines sound theoretical bases for discussion of aid programs, provides valuable insights into contemporary practices, and offers far-reaching suggestions on the future of aid programs. On first publication in the mid-1960s, in the midst of the Cold War, this book had considerable influence and its interest outlasts its parochial times as one of the first to discuss the effects of aid on both donor and recipient countries. I.M.D. Little, born in 1918, was a fellow of Nuffield College, Oxford. Trained as a philosopher, he became an economist who paved the way for the rise of social choice theory with his 1950 book, A Critique of Welfare Economics. He subsequently moved on to development economics. J. M. Clifford was a staff member of the British Overseas Development Institute. Osvaldo Feinstein is a consultant with the World Bank Institute, and was previously manager, Partnerships and Knowledge Management, in the Operations Evaluation Department at the World Bank, and has published widely on evaluation and development issues.
This book offers an original critique of the billionaire founders of US West Coast tech companies, addressing their collective power, influence, and ideology, their group dynamics, and the role they play in the wider sociocultural and political formations of digital capitalism. Interrogating not only the founders’ political and economic ambitions, but also how their corporations are omnipresent in our everyday lives, the authors provide robust evidence that a specific kind of patriarchal power has emerged as digital capitalism’s mode of command. The ‘New Patriarchs’ examined over the course of the book include: Sergey Brin and Larry Page of Google, Elon Musk of Tesla, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, and Peter Thiel. We also include Sheryl Sandberg. The book analyses how these (mostly) men legitimate their rapidly acquired power, tying a novel kind of socially awkward but ‘visionary’ masculinity to exotic forms of shareholding. Drawing on a ten million word digital concordance, the authors intervene in feminist debates on patriarchy, masculinity, and postfeminism, locating the power of the founders as emanating from a specifically racialised structure of oppression tied to imaginaries of the American frontier, the patriarchal household, and settler colonialism. This is an important interdisciplinary contribution suitable for researchers and students across Digital Media, Media and Communication, and Gender and Cultural Studies.
