In the stark, gray world of Quill, showing any sign of creativity is a death sentence. Every year, thirteen-year-olds are sorted into categories: the strong and intelligent are Wanted, while the imaginative are declared Unwanted and sent to their doom. Identical twins Alex and Aaron Stowe are torn apart when Aaron is praised as a Wanted and Alex is condemned as an Unwanted. But when Alex arrives at the dreaded elimination farm, he discovers a stunning secret. The farm is an illusion hiding Artimé, a vibrant, magical haven led by the eccentric Mr. Today. Here, children are taught to harness their creativity, turning painting, singing, and acting into powerful magic. For the first time, Alex feels alive. Yet, the bond between the twins stretches across the divide of their two completely different worlds. As Aaron rises to power in Quill, a devastating clash between the two societies becomes inevitable, threatening to pit brother against brother in an ultimate magical battle.
