Hutson invented many of the pass routes still in use today and retired from the game with 19 NFL records, some of which stood for decades. This first book-length biography chronicles Hutson's life and career during football's leather helmet era of the Great Depression and World War II.

This the story of the seven baseball-playing Boyer brothers from western Missouri who signed professional contracts in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Led by oldest brother Cloyd, a pitcher, third baseman Ken and third baseman Clete, three of the seven brothers reached the majors. This book recounts their hardscrabble upbringing and how they fought their way to success. Initially discouraged by arm injuries that curtailed his big-league career, Cloyd became a coach and manager at the minor and major league levels, and remained in the game for nearly half a century. The most accomplished, Ken, became a perennial National League All-Star, and was the 1964 Most Valuable Player. In the 1960s, he was the face of the St. Louis Cardinals, and after his playing days ended he returned to manage the team. Clete gained prominence as a regular for the American League champion New York Yankees, and competed in five World Series before starring in the National League and concluding his career in Japan. While they did not make it to the top, the other four brothers enrich the story with their own baseball histories, and help illustrate how the closeness of the family helped each of them succeed.

After numerous training schools he was sent overseas as a tail gunner on a B-29. His first mission over Japan was mining a port city. Mining missions were considered the most dangerous type of mission. His detailed description of the mission is so detailed and lucid that the reader can vicariously live through the experience. The reader can visualize the black puffs of smoke from the AA guns as well the numerous search lights piercing the black sky to lock onto the B-29's. The war ended after his 13th mission. Included in the book is a picture of Hiroshima after the "A bomb" had been dropped. While delivering supplies to our prisoners of war held by the Japanese, he flew over Hiroshima. The sight was appalling.

Yu-Tang Daniel Lew had a long and distinguished career as a diplomat, editor and professor. He served as consul general in Vancouver, minister in Brazil, and ambassador to New Zealand and at the United Nations. He also devoted many years to teaching-first at Tsing Hua University in Beijing in 1948, later at Mackinac College in Michigan in the late '60s and then at the Chinese Culture University in Taiwan from 1976 until his death in 2005. In 1974, he established the Sino-American Relations quarterly and was its editor-in-chief for all of its 30 years. A long admirer of Abraham Lincoln, Dr. Lew founded the Lincoln Society in 1984 to promote Lincoln's ideals of democracy among the Chinese. He also spent his final years teaching children the spirit of "Liang-zhi", espoused first by the philosopher Mencius. The oldest of six siblings, Dr. Lew was born on October 26, 1913 in Guangzhou, China. He attended Seattle's Broadway High School and obtained his doctorate at Harvard University. Married to Yalan Chang Lew, they had three sons.
