There has been considerable research and authorship on child sexual abuse, however, much of this research has focused on adult perpetrators and child victims. Less attention has been paid to children’s harmful sexual behaviour and the multitude of influences. Harmful Sexual Behaviour in Young Children and Pre-Teens provides evidence-based understanding on: typical sexual development versus harmful sexual behaviour; the prevalence and impacts associated with harmful sexual behaviour; Australian laws, policies and educator responsibilities; responses and support systems for children who display harmful sexual behaviour; and the implications and challenges for future practice. This book provides understandings that directly respond to the recent Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse recommendation 10.1 to address (a) primary prevention strategies to educate family, community members, carers, and professionals about preventing harmful sexual behaviours (b) secondary prevention strategies to ensure early intervention when harmful sexual behaviours are developing and (c) tertiary intervention strategies to address harmful sexual behaviours.. The authors present a review of psychological, sociological, legal, and educational research to inform and support professionals involved in the wellbeing and education of children to understand, manage, and reduce dysfunctional sexual development in children.

Tradition had the League of Star Warriors being rooted in the Tejas Rangers of the Statea United on the mythical First Earth. However, while the Tejas Rangers rode horses over the vast wastelands of a single planet, Star Warriors flew and lived on their thunderturkies, as their class of battle starships were called. They went from planet to planet. Rangers fought with six shot slug throwers, rifles, and shotguns. Star Warriors fought with the latest technological weapon systems, including a sling pistol, heavily armed thunderturkey, and Hawk star fighter. Rangers rode with other rangers and were controlled by the Tejas government. Star Warriors operated alone and were governed by the League of Star Warriors. Rangers went after common criminals. Star Warriors went after master criminals, powerful criminal organizations, and other evil people, who were above the law for one reason or another reason or another. Rangers brought lawbreakers before judges, who handed out justice. Star Warriors were judges, juries, and off time executioners. Unlike other law enforcement professionals and members of military organizations, Star Warriors were still Star Warriors even after they voluntarily retired or were barred from serving on active duty. The forehead of each Star Warrior was covered with tattoos identifying him as a Star Warrior, telling how many years he spent of active duty, and telling the number of times he had been wounded. People sought out those tattoos when they needed help because the local police couldn’t or wouldn’t help them. Jack Quantum had been medically retired. Yet, he still operated as a Star Warrior. He stopped two assignation attempts, and saved a small boy from suffering through a painful and ugly death. He unmasked a major drug lord and stopped his plans to take over the star trader he was flying on. Jack became the Master of the star trader after being critically injured during a firefight the star trader had with an overwhelming number of starships. Yet, he was instrumental in saving the starship and over forty thousand people as it blindly flew across the galaxy.

In the mid-1800s, Andrew Dawson, self-exiled from his home in Scotland, joined the upper Missouri River fur trade and rose through the ranks of the American Fur Company. A headstrong young man, he had come to America at the age of twenty-four after being dismissed from his second job in two years. His poignant sense of isolation is evident throughout his letters home between 1844 and 1861. In This Far-Off Wild Land, Lesley Wischmann and Andrew Erskine Dawson—a relative of this colorful figure—couple an engaging biography of Dawson with thirty-seven of his previously unpublished letters from the American frontier. Three years after he landed in St. Louis, Dawson went up the Missouri in 1847 to what is now North Dakota and Montana, taking command of Fort Berthold, Fort Clark, and eventually Fort Benton, the premier fur trade post of the day. Fort Berthold and Fort Clark, where Dawson worked until 1854, remain two of the least documented American Fur Company posts. His letters infuse life, and occasional high drama, to the stories of these forgotten outposts. At Fort Benton, his insight in establishing commercial warehouses helped the company keep pace with the changing frontier. By the time Dawson returned to Scotland—after twenty years in what he labeled a far-off, wild land—he had risen to become the last “King of the Upper Missouri.” Thoughtfully annotated, Dawson’s letters, discovered only recently by his relatives, provide a rare glimpse into the lonely life of a fur trader in the 1840s and 1850s. Unlike the impersonal business correspondence that makes up most fur trade writings, Dawson’s letters are wonderfully human, suffused with raw emotion. Combining careful research with a compelling story, the authors flesh out the forces that shaped Dawson’s personality and the historical events he recorded.
