From the book's beginning: She calls it desert dancing, what we do out there. It's a place some of us call home, no matter where we live; a place you go back to, even when you've never been there before. Deserts around the world may be different, but the feeling is the same; the hearts of prophets and devils alike beat stronger there. A place you feel eternity. Home for the spirit. Forbidding -- to some. Bleak and lonely. No desert rat can deny these feelings at times. That's part of it. It's also the primordial challenge of surviving, low-tech life and death, surrounded by a rugged, powerful beauty and the wonderful adaptations of Mother Nature to the difficult, dry world of the desert. Animals that can live their entire lives without a drink of water. Seeds that can lay dormant for years, then germinate after a desert rainstorm that offers just enough water to bring them to life. The more high-tech my tools and toys, the more I need my desert time, my desert dancing. Reviews: ... goes beyond being a simple A to B guidebook. As a schoolboy the only thing Len Woodgate wanted to do was to join the RAF. He achieved this at the tender age of 16, by becoming a member of the 49th Entry of the RAF Halton Apprenticeship scheme. Then followed a full career in the RAF where he later gained a commission. As well as the UK, he was posted on several overseas tours. He finished his service by taking charge of the Aerospace Museum at Cosford and prepared it to be taken over as part of the Royal Air Force Museum. Now, aged 87, Len Woodgate is a remarkable man who has lived an equally remarkable life. His mind is still as sharp as a razor and his memory is still crystal clear. Numerous of Len's exploits and achievements are related within his book.
Kuwait City: Mahfuz Abood becomes an orphan during Desert Storm. He blames the United States for his parents’ death. Standing in front of his destroyed home, he meets and is taken in by a Pakistani terrorist named Mustafa, who over time, teaches him the ways of death and destruction. Now a grown man, he devises a plan to pay back the United States. He tortures a Greek oil tanker owner who is murdered after he signs his ship over to Mahfuz. The Russian Bratva is paid to steal a nuclear bomb from a Russian submarine graveyard. Once obtained, it is transported to an Indian port and placed in the ship’s number one center cargo tank. The United States’ attention is diverted towards New York as the tanker sails into the Gulf of Mexico hidden behind an ominous hurricane. The target is Port Arthur, Texas. It is the number one port for the import and export of petroleum, chemicals, and natural gases. Will Mahfuz have his vengeance or will the United States prevent a major catastrophe?

On March 31, 1998, more than 48,500 fans cheered the arrival of Major League Baseball's newest expansion team, the Arizona Diamondbacks. In the first book ever to chronicle the birth of a major-league baseball franchise from conception to Opening Day, Big League, Big Time takes you inside the Diamondbacks dugout -- and their corporate suite -- to examine the billion-dollar business of baseball and its enormous impact on our culture. While many prominent people went to bat for baseball in Phoenix, sports entrepreneur Jerry Colangelo, the Diamondbacks' managing general partner, swung for the fences and scored a league-envious, $355 million state-of-the-art baseball facility. Big League, Big Time discloses how Colangelo's revolutionary vision for the Diamondbacks affected all aspects of the club -- especially his choice of personnel, from Jay Bell and Andy Benes to former Yankees manager Buck Showalter, "a young man with old-fashioned ideas." But even before they had drafted a player, the Diamondbacks front office was well aware that marketing "The Show" was the off-the-field game they couldn't afford to lose. Read the inside story of how they chose the team's name and colors, successfully maneuvered multimillion-dollar deals with a host of major sponsors, determinedly wooed the vast Mexican market, attracted such celebrity coinvestors as Billy Crystal and Lou Gosset, Jr., and became one of the five highest revenue-producing franchises before a single game was played. Complete with player profiles, an exclusive inside-the-war-room took at the expansion draft, and a dissection of the media's role in the global growth of the sports industry, Big League, Big Time is a rare glimpse into the politics, business, and promise of baseball -- a fascinating analysis of how one city cultivated a very special field of dreams.
Republic Pictures Corporation, began as a motion picture laboratory in 1915. By 1935, Republic had become a studio and released its first movie, Westward Ho! starring a young John Wayne, who would stay with Republic for the next 17 years. Republic would go on to produce highly successful Westerns starring singing cowboys Gene Autry and Roy Rogers as well as serial adventure series. The studio cranked out so many exciting (not to mention money-making) serials that it became known as "The Thrill Factory." Occasionally, Republic would produce and distribute "A" features, such as Macbeth and The Quiet Man, but it was the "B" Westerns and adventure serials that they knew best how to produce and market. Until its demise in 1959, Republic fed hungry moviegoers with a steady diet of "B" Westerns, serials, dramas, series pictures and musicals. The Republic Pictures Checklist provides a full listing of Republic releases, with plot synopses, release dates, alternate titles, chapter titles and awards. All of Republic's output, including documentaries and training films, is included.

It’s more common in youth ministry than we want to admit—burnout and failure. Exhaustion, frustration, disappointment, and conflict bring many youth workers to a point where they either choose a new church, a new career, or someone makes that choice for them. After thirty years of youth ministry experience, Len Kageler wants to help youth workers avoid the pitfalls that are common to their calling, and give them the tools to not only survive, but also to thrive in youth ministry. Along with his own wisdom, Len offers insights gained from his 2006 survey of more than 300 burned out or fired youth workers who come from a variety of ministry contexts and denominations. If you’re new to youth ministry, or you’ve been at it for a while and feel like you may be on the verge of burnout, The Youth Ministry Survival Guide will help you: • deal with conflict and compromise • determine the causes of burnout (and how to avoid them!) • discover how your personality, and the personality of those you work with, affects the dynamics of your ministry experience • develop the best plan for working with senior pastors, church leadership, parents, and students, so you can… • do youth ministry in your 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond! Don’t let burnout force you out! Inside this book you’ll find steps you can take to help build fences against failure, and you’ll learn what it takes to survive and thrive in youth ministry.
Finding A Way will appeal to football fans, describing as it does the delights of playing the sport professionally, and sharing with the reader the secrets of the dressing room – and midfielder Len Johnrose’s candid opinions of the players and managers who populated his glory years. Yet this is much more than a footballing memoir, and the title refers to more than sporting endeavour. The book – full of humour – will also appeal to those who are fascinated by the human spirit and how it can vault the most intimidating barriers to happiness. ‘Finding a way’ has become Len’s mantra since his diagnosis with motor neurone disease (MND) in 2017, some years after his retirement from professional football, while he was working as a teacher and maintaining high standards of physical fitness through sport and gym. This cruel disease gradually removed all such activities from his life. Now it severely restricts his personal freedoms as his everyday movement became increasingly affected – the memoir was written using voice-recognition technology as Len can no longer control his hands. It’s been a long journey for Len since he played for Blackburn Rovers, Hartlepool, Bury, Burnley, Swansea City and Preston North End. Yet this quietly admirable man has found a way to overcome the unexpected challenges he’s faced off the field, and that brings its own satisfaction.
American Trinity is for everyone who loves the American West and wants to learn more about the good, the bad, and the ugly. It is a sprawling story with a scholarly approach in method but accessible in manner. In this innovative examination, Dr. Larry Len Peterson explores the origins, development, and consequences of hatred and racism from the time modern humans left Africa 100,000 years ago to the forced placement of Indian children on off-reservation schools far from home in the late 1800s. Along the way, dozens of notable individuals and cultures are profiled. Many historical events turned on the lives of legendary Americans like the "Father of the West," Thomas Jefferson, and the "Son of the West," George Armstrong Custer - two strange companions who shared an unshakable sense of their own skills - as their interpretation of truths motivated them in the winning of the West. Dr. Peterson reveals how anti-Indian sentiments were always only obliquely about them. They were victims but not the cause. The Indian was a symbol, not a real person. The politics of hate and racism directed toward them was also experienced in prior centuries by Jews, enslaved Africans, and other Christians. Hatred and racism, when taken into the public domain, are singularly difficult to justify, which is why Europeans and Americans have always sought vindication from the highest sources of authority in their cultures. In the Middle Ages it was religion supplemented later by the philosophy of the Enlightenment. In nineteenth-century Europe and America, religion and philosophy were joined by science and medicine to support Manifest Destiny, scientific racism, and social Darwinism, all of which had profound consequences on Native Americans and the Spirit of the West. Presenting research in anthropology, archaeology, biology, history, law, medicine, religion, philosophy, and psychology, Dr. Peterson provides the latest observations that delineate why the Native American's life was destroyed. American Trinity is a stunning portrait, a view at once unique, panoramic, and intimate. It is a fascinating book that will make you think about the differences between belief and knowledge; about the self-skepticism of science and medicine; and about what aspects of the world we take on faith.
Winner of the Guggenheim, National Endowment for the Arts, and National Poetry Series awards, Len Roberts presents his best past work with a sizable collection of new poems.
You can become fully free from depression. Depression is real. It’s not your fault if you have it, but it is your responsibility to do something effective about it. Although depression is often stigmatized or ignored, Christians commonly experience it. While it can sometimes feel like there are no solutions and that you can never escape depression, that isn’t true. In this easy-to-read book, Dr. Len Lantz addresses aspects of faith and mood while providing real answers about what works for depression and why. In unJoy, Dr. Lantz shares engaging stories, common-sense reasoning, research-proven treatments, entertaining cartoons, and biblical encouragement for Christians struggling with “unJoy” and for their loved ones. There is hope and help for depression!
Len Roberts is a poet of unwavering truthfulness and unwavering mercy," commented Sharon Olds about Black Wings, a 1988 National Poetry Series selection. Counting the Black Angels, Roberts's eighth book of poetry, is a piercingly painful and redemptive work in which he probes memories of a violent family history and his covenants with God and the "Black Angels." "Roberts's new work is among the most intelligent, moving, and expressive poetry now being written." -- Hayden Carruth

Two students, a Spaniard and her American friend, go missing from the University of Madrid, Spain. Evidence suggests that the two women were abducted, but there is no demand for ransom, no communication from any would-be kidnappers—nothing. They are just gone without a trace with only an open car door and set of abandoned car keys to indicate they were ever there. Weeks of investigation by the police and other investigative agencies lead nowhere. Captain Mercedes Garcia of the National Police Force and ex-Secret Service Agent Gene—Gino—Cerone, principal characters from the novel The Seventh Treasure, return in this new and challenging mystery to investigate the disappearance and find answers where there are none. The two soon discover a dark plot that touches the best and brightest women—leaders amongst their peers—at universities across Europe, ultimately taking them to the desert kingdoms of the Middle East. Cerone assembles an unorthodox investigative team that needs to circumvent a diplomatic nightmare involving monarchies throughout the Arab world, to find these missing women and bring them home safely. As with The Seventh Treasure, sales and royalties for Prey of the Falcon are donated to the Wounded Warriors Project and the Hilton Head Humane Association.

Most books on GPS are quite technical and concentrate on the satellites and/or receiver design. This book is about user equipment evolution from expensive, complex and voluminous military sets to todays low-cost chips buried in our cell phones. It traces a system designed primarily for military and civilian aircraft, ships and land vehicles to an essential utility of everyday life, enabling new businesses, more safety and the ability to track everything that moves. In parallel with the evolution of GPS is the evolution of commercial air travel as experienced by the author, starting from a flight on a Pan Am 707 in 1963 to a recent one on an Air France A380. Part II is a memoir written for the GPS community, people who have met or been influenced or educated about GPS by the author and anyone else interested in this facet of GPS history. It describes the tribulations that accompanied the development GPS user equipment and some of their first applications. What makes the book an autobiography is the inclusion of Part I, which is for the authors friends and family and anyone else interested in his early development.
