In the Know teaches over 800 colorful idioms in English. The book groups the idioms into units depending on whether the idioms relate to such concepts as danger or honesty, or whether they contain colors or parts of the body, etc. Each unit has a clear four-page format that presents the idioms, explores their meaning, and practices their use.
What do we mean by social class in the 21st century? University of Brighton sociologists Laura Harvey and Sarah Leaney and award-winning comics creator Danny Noble present an utterly unique, illustrated journey through the history, sociology and lived experience of class. What can class tell us about gentrification, precarious work, the role of elites in society, or access to education? How have thinkers explored class in the past, and how does it affect us today? How does class inform activism and change? Class: A Graphic Guide challenges simplistic and stigmatising ideas about working-class people, discusses colonialist roots of class systems, and looks at how class intersects with race, sexuality, gender, disability and age. From the publishers of the bestselling Queer: A Graphic History, this is a vibrant, enjoyable introduction for students, community workers, activists and anyone who wants to understand how class functions in their own lives.
This series of commentaries on the New English Bible is designed for use in schools and colleges, and for the minister and the layman. Each volume comments on one book, or part, of the Bible. In each the text is given in full. Sections of text and commentary alternate, so that the reader does not have to keep two books open, or turn from one part of the book to the other, or refer to a commentary in small type at the foot of the page. Great care has been taken to see that the commentary is suitable for the student and the layman: there is no Greek or Hebrew, and no strings of biblical references. The general editors all have experience of teaching or examining in school and working with adults. Commentaries on all the books of the Old Testament, New Testament and Apocrypha have been published, together with introductory volumes and books of illustrations to accompany each Testament.
It is the incredible privilege of Christians to know and serve the God who has made himself known to human beings as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The studies that follow are intended to help us know this God better and to learn to love and worship him. The studies have been prepared for those who attend Ferndale Baptist Church, Southend-on-Sea, but the authors hope that they will be of help to others as they seek to worship the true God.
