Finding humor in adverse situations has seen me through what some might consider rough times. From quadruple bypass surgery to the amputation of first, two toes, then a below-the-knee amputation of my left leg, I have been fortunate enough to have been gifted by God with a sense of humor that drove the psychiatrist at the veterans hospital crazy. I guess I was supposed to crash! Sorry, guys, I aint made that way! Eight years in the Marine Corps instilled in me the Semper-Fi attitudenever give up. Humor is a great healer. I try to have a big dose of it every day.

The Hicks gang hit the Union Pacific train with savage efficiency, leaving the crew dead and the passengers stranded in the desert and as good as dead. Wes Denton came upon the scene and rode into Gila Bend in order to send out help. While there he met Joe Mason and struck up a friendship that would turn into a prospecting partnership. There had to be gold somewhere in the Mogollons, and Wes and Joe figured to find it. While finding it would prove to be chancy, hanging on to it with the Hicks gang in the area might prove to be downright dangerous. Cheyenne Mason had run Lester Flagg out of town with the threat of death should he return. Now, Lester was steering the Hicks gang to Santa Fe and the Mason ranch, where he planned to even the score with the Masons, and Cheyenne Mason in particular.
