During the 1880s, Chesapeake Bay boatbuilders began constructing small wooden open boats, referred to as deadrise boats, out of planks with V-shaped bows. As boatbuilders created larger deadrise boats, decks were installed to provide more work and payload space; these deck boats also had a house/pilothouse near the stern and a mast closer to the bow of the boat. Deck boats were powered by gasoline engines but also utilized sails and wind. From the 1910s to the 1940s, auxiliary "steadying" sails were raised to help steady the boat when encountering adverse seas. More deck boats were built in the 1920s than in any other decade. Over the history of the boats, several thousand worked the bay in the freight business, were used to buy and plant oysters, worked in the bay's pound net fishery, and dredged for crabs and oysters. Approximately 40 boats are left on the bay. A few still work the water. Some have found new life as recreational yachts, and others are education boats owned by museums and nonprofits. In 2004, boat owners formed the Chesapeake Bay Buyboat Association, which holds an annual rendezvous at different ports as a way to educate the public about this unique aspect of Chesapeake Bay maritime history.

Why is this book needed now? Until mid-20th century among evangelicalism the near unanimous view was that most Roman Catholics are lost due to their corrupted gospel. In recent decades increased numbers of big-tent evangelicals have begun to accept Roman Catholics as our brothers and sisters in Christ. Is this a remarkable achievement or tragic compromise? It is my position that it is a tragic compromise, therefore this book is needed NOW. In Chapters One and Two a history of evangelicalism is provided demonstrating the changes that have occurred as well as a review of the most significant published documents manifesting these changes. These include such documents as Vatican II, Evangelicals and Catholics Together, and other post-1990’s publications. Then summarized are the major factors that have contributed to this precipitous change – transdenominationalism, desire for visible unity, supernatural conversionism, cultural engagement, and decline in doctrinal clarity. Chapter Three presents an exegetically based definition of the true gospel as penned by the Apostle Paul. In Chapter Four the Roman Catholic official way of salvation is summarized from their own documents, and it is DIFFERENT from that penned by Paul. Based on decades of ministry as a church planter in the city of New Orleans, in Chapters Five through Nine I present from a “boots on the ground” perspective a practical “how to” regarding effective evangelization of “lost” Roman Catholics. With a God-dependent attitude and the application of this methodology scores, even hundreds, of dear Roman Catholic people came to understand and respond by faith to the Bible-based grace message that saves.

Thus, through its optimization of experience and skill of the cerebral cortex, it was the cerebellum that was and is predominant in producing culture, language, mathematics, creativity, and extreme levels of skill in all areas from sports to computer science and art. These optimizing functions of the cerebellum are shown in the cases of Albert Einstein, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Maryam Mirzakhani, and the predictive powers of Stonehenge. This book fills a critical role in bringing courses up-to-date with the profound, basic changes this newly understood predominant role of the cerebellum provides for understanding the mechanisms related to all topics in psychology and neuroscience. An important chapter in that undeclared conflict played out in northeast Texas, in the Corners region where Grayson, Fannin, Hunt, and Collin Counties converged. Part of that violence came to be called the Lee-Peacock Feud, a struggle in which Unionists led by Lewis Peacock and former Confederates led by Bob Lee sought to even old scores, as well as to set the terms of the new South, especially regarding the status of freed slaves. Until recently, the Lee-Peacock violence has been placed squarely within the Lost Cause mythology. This account sets the record straight. For Bob Lee, a Confederate veteran, the new phase of the war began when he refused to release his slaves. When Federal officials came to his farm in July to enforce emancipation, he fought back and finally fled as a fugitive. In the relatively short time left to his life, he claimed personally to have killed at least forty people--civilian and military, Unionists and freedmen. Peacock, a dedicated leader of the Unionist efforts, became his primary target and chief foe. Both men eventually died at the hands of each other's supporters. From previously untapped sources in the National Archives and other records, the authors have tracked down the details of the Corners violence and the larger issues it reflected, adding to the reinterpretation of Reconstruction history and rescuing from myth events that shaped the following century of Southern politics.
