The development of an attachment style in early life has been found to be influential in adult attachment relationships. Within the field of psychology, attachment to God has been linked to attachment to human relationships. Furthermore, attachment relationships have been linked to prayer behavior. This study aimed to replicate and extend a study by Byrd and Boe (2001), hypothesizing that avoidant and anxious attachment to adults and God would predict prayer utilization (meditative, colloquial, and petitionary). The sample consisted of 276 college students, ages 18 through 23 years, at a conservative Christian university.
