The fields of comparative and world literature tend to have a unidirectional, Eurocentric focus, with attention to concepts of “origin” and “arrival.” DisOrientations challenges this viewpoint. Kristin Dickinson employs a unique multilingual archive of German and Turkish translated texts from the early nineteenth through the mid-twentieth century. In this analysis, she reveals the omnidirectional and transtemporal movements of translations, which, she argues, harbor the disorienting potential to reconfigure the relationships of original to translation, past to present, and West to East. Through the work of three key figures—Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Friedrich Schrader, and Sabahattin Ali—Dickinson develops a concept of translational orientation as a mode of omnidirectional encounter. She sheds light on translations that are not bound by the terms of economic imperialism, Orientalism, or Westernization, focusing on case studies that work against the basic premises of containment and originality that undergird Orientalism’s system of discursive knowledge production. By linking literary traditions across retroactively applied periodizations, the translations examined in this book act as points of connection that produce new directionalities and open new configurations of a future German-Turkish relationship. Groundbreaking and erudite, DisOrientations examines literary translation as a complex mode of cultural, political, and linguistic orientation. This book will appeal to scholars and students of translation theory, comparative literature, Orientalism, and the history of German-Turkish cultural relations.

But fragmentation and dispersal have up until now made the results almost invisible. Only a relatively small number of the original statues have been widely known, even to experts. The present publication brings together all these traces of the city's past to reveal the abundance, beauty, variety, and novelty of the statuary and to begin the process of reintegrating it in considerations of the temples and palaces of the city. The work is presented in two parts. The first volume presents extensive observations about the creation of the statuary, comprising chapters dealing with the range of materials and the methods of working them, a detailed explication of the novel creation of composite statuary, and an overview of the workshop buildings that have been identified so far at Amarna. In the second volume, the excavated fragments themselves, most of them previously unpublished, are catalogued in a series of chapters devoted to individual royal buildings. The original statues are envisioned and analysed for their contexts, resulting in new information about these buildings, the intentions and concerns behind them, and the evolution in those intentions.

In our world we hope to find a place of our own, without industry, and without any other persons knowledge of it. We dream of the unimaginable, and impossible, where the rule of gravity no longer complies. A place we can share with the one person we were born to spend our lives with. The Narcissists – Iziara and the Priestess Falls is a compelling story of a girl stumbling upon a world that mirrors own completely, yet has magical properties, from deathly barriers to skies of reflective acid. There are many dangers and adventures that await Iziara, as she is awestruck by giant, soul catching, flying fish, a monstrous witch, and heart stealing men. In this story Iziara falls from the acid sky landing on an attractive, magical guardian named Svecla. Through him and his ill natured brother Atvetex, she discovers the Narcissists war torn history. She learns of the first beings of the Narcissist world, the Greats. They are God like entities that have been fighting amongst themselves for power and domination. A few of them fled to the human world causing devastation, as some stayed in the Narcissist world. Iziara's enchantment with this new world, and love for Svecla urges her to help them retrieve the discarded weapons of the Greats. Only then can they defeat the Greats, restoring peace, and save the Narcissist people from the evil Great Lillith. However, as Iziara, Svecla, and Atvetex search the four corners of the earth for the weapons they encounter foes, and a few friends. This story is a collaboration of loss, shock, love, and adventure of the Narcissists.
