Meet Khalid Saleem-a young, African-American Muslim growing up in a mostly typical suburban family, who, in 1998 at the age of seventeen, makes a major decision that will affect the rest of his life in ways he could not even begin to imagine. Without consulting his parents, he joins the U.S. Army -the "Green," as he calls it. And it turns out to be the best decision he could have possibly made. Here is Khalid's unabashed, candid and humorous telling of his time in Basic Training where he learned, among other things, how to march, run, shoot, do push-ups, obey orders, work as a team and, above all, become a man. One of the markers of globalization is that most Western societies have become diverse, and pluralism is the new challenge. With Islam and Muslims receiving so much media coverage, it begs the question of nativity and the evolution of Islam, as it should be interpreted from a Westerner’s experience and perspective. There are many mosques and communities filled with immigrant Muslims. Naturally, they have brought along their own culture and religious practices. We must contextualize the value of the immigrant experience. The book Muted Imam, although speaking of events in Bermuda, sheds light on what should be an inherent right of expression in every part of the world. It speaks of Islam coming out of environments, as opposed to being parachuted in. This is the story of a man who climbs through isms and ideology to discover truth. There are some axiomatic questions posed in the book that may help shed the notion of Islam as a cultural phenomenon, while placing man and human consciousness at the center of the universe and the purpose of being. The book emphasizes and re-emphasizes that attaining truth is the repository of the whole of humanity, and it dispels the notion of the Quran belonging to a sect, rather than to all of humanity. Muted Imam strives to give young people the courage and inspiration needed to stand up with open hearts, without fear of tradition to face modern challenges and see the wisdom already imbedded in the Quran. This allows us to reach new heights living together in a pluralistic world.

KHALID MOHAMED started as reviewer and co-editor, during his teenage years for close-up, a film society magazine. He reviewed television for The Economic Times basides contributing articles to The Illustrated Weekly of India and Femina. His writing has writing has also featured in India Today,The Indian Express, The Telegraph, the international film weekly Variety and in Sunday Observer, London. He was film critic for Mid-day, Senior Editor of DNA newspaper, and National Culture Editor and film critic for Hindustan Times. Currently, he is Consulting Editor to the Deccan Chronicle media group. He wrote the original stories and screenplays and also directed the films Fiza, Tehzeeb and Silsilaay . He debuted recently as a playwright and director of the stageplay Kennedy Bridge. His documentary The Last Irani Chai has been screened widely. His second documentary Smiles and Tears on Mumbai's street children is under post-production. Presently, he is writing his second stageplay and his first novel.
The years 2021 to 2030 have been designated as "The United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration". Ecological restoration and biodiversity conservation efforts face unprecedented challenges, especially in developing countries and areas, such as the Hindu Kush-Himalayan (HKH) region. This huge HKH region, which includes areas in eight separate countries (Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, India, China, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Bhutan), is a biodiversity hotspot with a vast array of ecosystems, landscapes, peoples and cultures. Licorice (Glycyrrhiza) is one of the most widely used in foods, herbal medicine and one of the extensively researched medicinal plants of the world.
