THE STORY: Seeking to escape the demands of life in London, Pam Fitzgerald and her brother, Roddy, an aspiring playwright, discover a charming house in the west of England, overlooking the Irish Sea. The house, Cliff End, has long been empty, and t
Tom wrote this book about his desire to travel by boat to hunt Wild Turkeys, in his own damn boat. However, as in all Tom Kelly narratives, there is more to the story than just building a boat. His progress in construction and subsequent success and failure make up the chapters of The Boat. The people Tom encounters along the way are also part of the meat of the story. The wood used to build the boat, juniper, is of particular interest because is was stolen. Tom still has some of the original juniper under the rafters in Laura's playhouse in Spanish Fort. Read on, and enjoy this collection of priceless essays by Colonel Tom Kelly.

A Clinician's Guide to Integrating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, and Mindfulness Approaches within the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Tradition
Psychosis can be associated with a variety of mental health problems, including schizophrenia, severe depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorders. While traditional treatments for psychosis have emphasized medication-based strategies, evidence now suggests that individuals affected by psychosis can greatly benefit from psychotherapy. Treating Psychosis is an evidence-based treatment guide for mental health professionals working with individuals affected by psychosis. Using a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) approach that incorporates acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), compassion-focused therapy (CFT) and mindfulness approaches, this book is invaluable in helping clinicians develop effective treatment for clients affected by psychosis. The guide provides session-by-session clinical interventions for use in individual or group treatment on an inpatient, outpatient, or community basis. The book features 40 reproducible clinical practice forms and a companion website with additional downloadable clinical forms and tools, guided exercises, case examples, and resources. The therapeutic approaches presented are rooted in theory and research, and informed by extensive clinical experience working with client populations affected by psychosis. The approaches outlined in this book offer clinicians and clients the opportunity to partner in developing therapeutic strategies for problematic symptoms to enable those affected by psychosis to work toward valued goals and ultimately live more meaningful lives. This guide emphasizes a compassionate, de-stigmatizing approach that integrates empowering and strengths-oriented methods that place the client’s values and goals at the center of any therapeutic intervention.
Six Community Psychologists Tell Their Stories: History, Contexts, and Narrative presents the unique opportunity to examine how culture and social norms have combined with chance, coincidence, and serendipity to form the professional identities of men and women who were among the first generation trained to work in the field of community psychology. The book’s contributors—disciples of those who founded the sub-field—provide insights into the factors (social status, family history, education, social environment, cultural events, important ideas) that furthered their professional development in an emerging field. Their stories—still works in progress—go far beyond facts, figures, dates and details to document what they’ve done with their lives—and why. Six esteemed community psychologists—three men who began their careers as the field was established in the mid-1960s and three women who took part in the increased opportunities available in the 1970s—recall how important events and social movements affected them as they fulfilled their personal and professional goals. They discuss the effects of family values and styles, class, ethnic status, gender, racism, anti-Semitism, the power of social settings, supportive education and work settings, and the impact of post-World War II government programs on their education, including the G.I. Bill, and the establishment of United States Public Health Service fellowships. Their stories touch on many common themes, including social marginality and sex discrimination, making personal discoveries in response to educational experiences, the significance of fate, and the experience of gaining a new or renewed sense of self through meaningful events, occasions, and people. These Six Community Psychologists Tell Their Stories: Dr. Jean Ann Linney (University of South Carolina), whose experiences involve a combination of idealism, supportive contexts, and good fortune Dr. Julian Rappaport (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), who views himself as an “insider/outsider,” whose personal and professional identity crosses traditional boundaries Dr. N. Dickon Reppucci (University of Virginia), who became a community psychologist by accident, an outgrowth of his involvement with social protest in the 1960s Dr. Marybeth Shinn (New York University), whose story reflects her interest in the social contexts of neighborhoods and community settings Dr. Edison J. Trickett (University of Illinois at Chicago), who writes of the life experiences that have influenced both his work and his longtime involvement in folk music Dr. Rhona S. Weinstein (University of California at Berkeley), whose work in the dynamics of self-fulfilling prophecies in educational settings developed early in her career Insightful commentary on their recollections is provided by two distinguished scholars—Henrika Kuklick, Science Historian at the University of Pennsylvania, and Dan McAdams, Professor of Psychology at Northwestern University. Six Community Psychologists Tell Their Stories: History, Contexts, and Narrative is a unique resource for community psychologists, autobiographical researchers, and anyone interested in the history of psychology.

Over the years Colonel Kelly has written short stories, titled, Short Spurs for the final pages of the National Wild Turkey Federation's magazine, Turkey Country. Now we are happy to announce the publication of a soft cover book, Tom has titled, Around the Edges 2. This 160 page 2nd edition is full of essays, poems, tall tales and some humor from the Colonel.
Robert Burns, he of sainted memory, in his ode, “To a Mouse,” wrote a line that is quoted again and again in all sorts of circumstances, the one about the plans of mice and men and how they often go astray. There is a following line in that poem that you almost never hear quoted, the line that says,“And leave us naught but grief and pain for promised joy.” That line is an accurate and pungent description of the spring season of 2010. I didn’t know it at the time and I would not have believed it if an angel with a flaming sword had appeared at the foot of the bed and so informed me, that after opening day the rest of the spring season of 2010 was going to be downhill all the way.
Tom Kelly's 9th book takes us back to Tom's turkey hunting roots. He brings you another 14 chapters of fair chase, great human observation and frustrating Wild Turkey situations. Entered for a Pulitzer Prize in Letters 2006.
Wild Turkey hunters will be amazed to read and learn about Tom's techniques, equipment and tactics. I know I was. When Tom and I produced the DVD, it became clear to me that Tom hunts by reason not by chance. The things he does in the woods are planned and acted upon based on the land, weather, season, timing and past experience. The only odd ball thing in his method of Wild Turkey hunting is the Wild Turkey. Who, Tom described so poetically in his 1973 classic, “Tenth Legion, by saying, “the bird possesses a remarkable ability to turn arrogance into hopelessness.”
These essays, in a second collection by Professor Kelly, investigate legal and religious subjects touching on the age and places in which Geoffrey Chaucer lived and wrote, especially as reflected in the more contemporary sections of the Canterbury Tales. Topics include the canon law of incest (consanguinity, affinity, spiritual kinship), the prosecution of sexual offences and regulation of prostitution (especially in the Stews of Southwark), legal opinions about wife-beating, and the laws of nature concerning gender distinction (focusing on Chaucer's Pardoner) and the technicalities of castration. Sacramental and devotional practices are discussed, especially dealing with confession and penitence and the Mass. Chaucer's Prioress serves as the starting point for a treatment of regulations of nuns in medieval England and also for the presence, real and virtual, of Jews and Saracens (Muslims and pagans) in England and conversion efforts of the time, as well as sympathetic or antipathetic attitudes towards non-Christians. Included is a case study on the legend of St Cecilia in Chaucer and elsewhere, and as patron of music; and a discussion of canonistic opinion on the licit limits of medicinal magic (in connection with the ministrations of John the Carpenter in the Miller's Tale).
Ending the U.S. war in Iraq required redeploying 100,000 military and civilian personnel; handing off responsibility for 431 activities to the Iraqi government, U.S. embassy, USCENTCOM, or other U.S. government entities; and moving or transferring ownership of over a million pieces of property in accordance with U.S. and Iraqi laws, national policy, and DoD requirements. This book examines the planning and execution of this transition.
Thirty five years ago I really thought I knew something about turkeys and not only did I understand them, I was perfectly willing to tell you anything you wanted to know about them. In the last two or three years all kinds of things have happened that have caused my firm convictions to lose a great deal of their rigidity. In some instances the convictions have turned out to be wrong. In many cases their sharp corners have been knocked off. All sorts of facts that are new and strange have come floating to the surface and many of these rock solid opinions of bygone years have become decidedly sick and unhealthy, which is the reason for the title of this book." -Tom Kelly
This book is an inspiration memoir of my life. It is a journey about different trials and different obstacles in life and how to overcome them through scriptures.
Discusses the rising tensions between American colonists in Mexican Texas and the Mexican president, Santa Anna, that led to the Texas Revolution, which led to the creation of the independent Republic of Texas in 1836.
One of the advantages of growing old is that you do not have to worry about what other people think, and the only penalty you have to suffer from taking an outrageous position on any subject, is the risk of being ignored." Colonel Tom Kelly, presents his personal opinions in POINT OF VIEW.
When you come right down to it most of our turkey hunting, no matter how much we may pretend otherwise, is covered in the first words of that old English drinking song, "With a Little Bit of Blooming Luck" I'll take my share of it. Anytime.
