Woodward turned those dreams into reality, building Belair Stud on his family's Maryland estate, launching what would become the preeminent Thoroughbred breeding and racing empire in America and chasing racing's biggest prizes in both the United States and England. The defining moment for Belair came when Woodward bred the imported stallion Sir Gallahad III to his mare Marguerite. Their colt, Gallant Fox, became only the second horse in history to win the Preakness Stakes, the Kentucky Derby, and the Belmont Stakes in the same year. In 1935, the farm cemented the Triple Crown as the gold standard for three-year-olds when Gallant Fox's son, Omaha, duplicated his sire's trio of victories, a sweep that sealed the farm's legacy and carved its name in the annals of racing history. The peanut-shaped sternaspid polychaetes have been known since 1760 when Plancus named them as Mentula cucurbitacea marina. Sternaspids are common and abundant in soft bottoms. Some authors suggested that only one species should be recognized, whereas others regard a few species very widely distributed and variable depths. Delineating species was problematic; the ventro-caudal shield was disregarded or barely used for identifying species. In this contribution the ventral shield is evaluated and its diagnostic potential is confirmed. The revision of Sternaspis is based upon type or topotype materials. Sternaspid body, introvert hooks and shield show three distinct patterns: two genera have 7 abdominal segments and tapered introvert hooks, and one genus has 8 abdominal segments and spatulate introvert hooks. The ventro-caudal shield has 3 different patterns: stiff with ribs, and sometimes concentric lines, stiff with feebly-defined ribs but no concentric lines, and soft with firmly adhered sediment particles. Sternaspis is restricted to include species with 7 abdominal segments, falcate introvert hooks, and stiff shields, often exhibiting radial ribs, concentric lines or both. Two new genera incorporate the remaining species: Caulleryaspis has falcate introvert hooks, 7 abdominal segments, and soft shields with sediment particles firmly adhered on them. Petersenaspis has spatulate introvert hooks, 8 abdominal segments, and stiff shields with poorly-defined ribs but no concentric line. The geographic range of most species is smaller than previously indicated. Keys to genera and to all species are also included.

During the course of history, conflicts known as the American Indian Wars, Frontier Wars, First Nations Wars, or the Indian Wars took place when European governments, colonies, American and Canadian settlers engaged in warfare with various American Indian and First Nation tribes. These battles occurred across North America, spanning from the 17th century to the early 20th century, with diverse causes ranging from land usage disputes to retaliatory cycles of violence. This was not uncommon. After 1780, armed confrontations between settlers and different Indian or First Nation tribes intensified in extent, duration, and intensity. A significant turning point came during the War of 1812, where large Indian alliances from the Midwest and South fought against the United States and suffered defeats. Over time, treaties between the federal government and certain tribes helped reduce hostilities between settlers and the native population. The passage of the Indian Removal Act in 1830 authorized the expulsion of Indians living east of the Mississippi River to Indian Territory in the western United States, particularly in what would become Oklahoma. This removal policy continued as American settlers expanded their territory, relocating Indian tribes to designated Indian reserves in the West.
