In Jesus’ time, his acts of healing and various demonstrations were phenomena that captivated many. Countless people experienced healings, mental restorations, and even resurrections. These events, labelled as ‘miracles’ by the emerging church in subsequent decades and centuries, unfortunately downplayed Jesus’ genuine impact on humanity by framing it as supernatural or otherworldly. Intriguingly, several of his disciples and followers carried forward his legacy, healing and teaching in Judea and surrounding regions with notable success. Imagine if this legacy had expanded exponentially and received unwavering support. It could have reshaped society on a global scale. A world transformed where harmony reigns, where wars are unthinkable, and where many of our modern-day institutions, like the healthcare system and the pharmaceutical industry, might not even exist due to widespread health and prosperity. Such potential underscores the magnitude of the missed opportunity. Yet, it also emphasizes that it’s never too late for a renaissance of such profound teachings and practices.

This book is an in-depth review of experiment and theory on electric-dipole polarizabilities. It is broad in scope, encompassing atomic, molecular, and cluster polarizabilities. Both static and dynamic polarizabilities are treated (in the absence of absorption) and a full tensor picture of the polarizability is used. Traditional experimental techniques for measuring electric polarizabilities are described in detail. Recently developed experimental methods, including light forces, position-sensitive time-of-flight deflection, and atom interferometry, are also extensively discussed. Theoretical techniques for calculating polarizabilities are reviewed, including a discussion on the use of Gaussian basis sets. Many important comparisons between theory and experiment are summarized in an extensive set of tables of polarizabilities of important atoms, molecules, and clusters. Applications of polarizabilities to many areas of chemistry and physics are described, including optics, chemical structure, interactions of gases and particles with surfaces, and the interaction of molecules with light. The emphasis is on a lucid presentation of the ideas and results with up-to-date discussions on important applications such as optical tweezers and nanostructure fabrication. This book provides an excellent overview of the importance of polarizabilities in understanding the physical, electronic, and optical properties of particles in a regime that goes from free atoms to condensed-phase clusters.

Since the early 1980s, a prominent and consistent conclusion drawn from research on China's defense-industrial complex has been that China's defense-production capabilities are rife with weaknesses and limitations. This study argues for an alternative approach: From the vantage point of 2005, it is time to shift the focus of current research to the gradual improvements in and the future potential of China's defense-industrial complex. The study found that China's defense sectors are designing and producing a wide range of increasingly advanced weapons that, in the short term, are relevant to a possible conflict over Taiwan but also to China's long-term military presence in Asia. Part of a larger RAND Project AIR FORCE study on Chinese military modernization, this study examines the current and future capabilities of China's defense industry.
