Michael and Kathie Waters considered themselves average, everyday citizens—that is, until a devastating illness swept them into an amazing journey that was anything but average. When an unexpected path unfolded before them, a strange turn of events propelled them into a surprising spiritual awareness. This newfound enlightenment changed everything they thought they knew or understood about the world, and as their bond with those beyond the veil strengthened, long-forgotten information was revealed. Based on recollection and long-kept journals, The Bridge to Light and Love tells the Waters’ incredible story in a down-to-earth, honest way. “It isn’t that unusual to experience metaphysical and spiritual phenomena. What is unusual is to read about these experiences as though they are everyday occurrences. Mike and Kathy tell their story as if they are sharing their conversations with dear old friends—old friends who just happen to be in non-physical form. Their message is true to the heart and reminds us to look beyond the everyday world and know without a shadow of a doubt that we are always being cared for and guided by companions on the other side.” —Rosie Kuhn, PhD. Author of The Unholy Path of a Reluctant Adventurer

Surrounded by live oaks and azaleas, McNeese State University has served Southwest Louisiana for over sixty years. Founded in 1939 by area businessmen and cattlemen, the university has grown and thrived side by side with the city of Lake Charles. Alumni, faculty, staff, and students alike take pride in the heritage of their evolving university, and the city embraces the school as a treasured landmark of the community. McNeese State University began as Lake Charles Junior College, a division of Louisiana State University. Just one year after its inception, the name was changed to John McNeese Junior College in honor of one of the area's foremost pioneer educators. In 1950 the name was changed to McNeese State College when four-year status was obtained, and university status was achieved in 1970. The campus has enjoyed phenomenal expansion, from its initial three buildings constructed on the site of the town's Poor Farm to the vibrant and sprawling 68 buildings and over 500 acres it consists of today. Scenes of student life--in classrooms, dormitories, club meetings, and at athletic events--as well as memorable events throughout the course of the school's history are the focus of this visual journey. Students are pictured during lighter moments, enjoying the camaraderie of their classmates, but their serious side is also displayed during such trials as the disastrous hurricane that forced over 1,000 refugees to shelter on campus and the period during World War II when the campus became the headquarters of the Louisiana Maneuvers. Notable alumni of McNeese State include Dr. Cecil Cyrus Vaughn, a pioneer in cardiovascular medicine and artificial transplant surgery; Sheryl L. Abshire, one of the first five inductees into the National Teacher Hall of Fame and a Christa McAuliffe Fellow; and Andre Dubus, a critically acclaimed writer.

I Pledge is well written, taking the reader on a unique journey through the painful Vietnam years. Kathie Lee, a young woman in the military, presents a fascinating story through the eyes of a small-town girl forced to grow up in a hurry. As Kathie's perceptions of honor, duty, and national interest are challenged, the reader is held captive. I Pledge is the first account I have seen which addresses those years effectively from a female perspective. Governor Jay Hammond, State of Alaska's two term Governor. He was a great encouragement to me in writing this novel before his passing. I Pledge is a wholesome, touching reading set in a serious era of America's history – the Vietnam War. It is carefully detailed, fast moving and even humorous. It also conveys values that will see people through both national and personal crises. Many will appreciate and benefit from I Pledge. Franklin Graham, President of the Billy Graham Evangelical Association and Samaritan's Purse Kathie Lee's book is a mind stimulating adventure of the time she spent in the military and the events she noted during the Vietnam War. I Pledge made me reflect on my time in the U.S. Marine Corps boot camp during 1964 and my combat tours of duty in Vietnam during 1967, 68, 69 and 70. It reminded me of the good times I spent with my comrades-in-arms and our everlasting friendships, and the bad times of having to experience the tragedy of a war-torn country, Vietnam. Butch Meriwether, U.S.M.C. Gunnery Sergeant, Retired In more than 20 years of friendship we have heard many stories from Kathie Lee about her experiences in the military, specifically the Vietnam era. We were in the first generation who sat around the dinner table and watched the daily televised unfolding of a war we didn't understand. Hearing about the war from the perspective of veterans who have a passion for their country and for our military has truly been an eye-opening privilege. Perhaps no other era of veterans has dealt with so much controversy and so little honor. As educators, we feel I Pledge is a ‘must read' for teachers and students to get an a accurate understanding of the Vietnam War period, and the sacrifices made by so many. Gary and Jill Leiter, Educator

Names appear, here and there recorded for posterity, and then the page turns and new names continue to be written. The pages fill up, are turned, and life and generations go on. So it is with families. They continue to move through the pages of history. Some are simply a line, recorded to acknowledge a birth or a death, while others had significant lives evidenced by volumes of testimony. This historical fiction novel depicts the life of Martin Renehan, born and raised in Kilkenny, Ireland. In 1834 he followed his young lady across the Atlantic to America where he settled in Washington, D.C. There he served as usher in the White House for five presidential administrations beginning with Andrew Jackson. He lived his life close to the pulse of his adopted land and worked in the Capitol city through the Civil War and the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. His Confederate son was captured and placed in the Old Capitol Prison. This presented Martin with a new set of problems. Many stories have been recorded about the intelligence and wit of this well-loved Irishman. During his life he was a colorful fixture in the society of Washington, D.C.
