Human beings have always made images, and to do so they have developed and refined an enormous range of artistic tools and materials. With the development of digital technology, the ways of making images - whether they are still or moving, 2D or 3D - have evolved at an unprecedented rate. At every stage of image making, artists now face a choice between using analog and using digital tools. Yet a digital image need not look digital; and likewise, a hand-made image or traditional photograph need not look analog. If we do not see the artist's choice between the analog and the digital, what difference can this choice make for our appreciation of images in the digital age? River systems around the world are degraded and are being used unsustainably. Meeting this challenge requires the development of flexible regimes that have the potential to meet essential consumptive needs while restoring environmental flows. This book focuses on how water trading frameworks can be repurposed for environmental water recovery and aims to conceptualise the most appropriate role for law in supporting recovery through these frameworks. The author presents a comprehensive study of the legal frameworks in four jurisdictions: the States of Oregon and Colorado in the western United States; the province of Alberta in Canada; and the Murray-Darling Basin in Australia/Basin State of New South Wales. A close comparative analysis of these four jurisdictions reveals a variety of distinctive regulatory arrangements and collaborations between public and private actors. In all cases, the law has been deployed to steer and coordinate these water governance activities. The book argues that each regime is based on a particular regulatory strategy, with different conceptions of the appropriate roles for, and relationships between, various actors and institutions. Legal frameworks do not have the capacity to rationalise and provide an overarching and absolute solution to the complex environmental and governance issues that arise in the context of environmental water transactions. Rather, the role of law in this context needs to be reconceptualised within the paradigm of regulatory capitalism as establishing and maintaining the limits within which regulatory participants can operate, innovate and collaborate.

Each chapter takes up a particularity of seventeenth-century theatrical style and staging”for example, the clearing of violence from the stage”and shows how the conceptualization of these French stylistic shifts appropriates a rich body of Italian political writing on questions of action, temporality, and law. The theater's appropriation of political concerns and vocabularies, the author argues, proffers an astute reflection on the practices of government that draws attention to questions obscured in reason of state, such as the instrumentalization of women's bodies. In a new reading of tragedies about government, the author shows how the canonical figure of Pierre Corneille is formally engaged with the political strategizing he often appears to repudiate, and in so doing challenges a literary history that has read neoclassicism largely as a display of pure French style.

At the time of King Solomon's reign, David and his family traveled from Hebron to Jerusalem to stay with his Auntie and Uncle for a Holiday. David reunited with his friend Ben. While there, he heard stories of his father's childhood. Together, David and Ben decided to plot and solve the old Jar mystery. Ben and I both rolled over onto our stomachs and propped our heads in our hands. "Broken jar handle?" I asked, "How did you know it was a handle?" Uncle answered, "There were impressions. These impressions were the kind they make on jars made especially for the temple." Katherine Sanborn was born, raised, and lives in Torrance, California, a medium size town just south west of Los Angeles. She took a class in Child Development at a local Junior College. She has two daughters, two sons-in-law, one grandson, one stepdaughter, one step-son-in-law, and two step granddaughters. Her grandson turned 9 last year. His energy, curiosity, and competitive nature inspired her to write this book. Joel and Arthur Spingarn were privileged, white, and Jewish. Born into an upper-class New York City family (in 1875 and 1878, respectively), the brothers quickly forged notable careers as young professionals-Joel as a highly regarded professor at Columbia University; Arthur as a lawyer in a top Manhattan firm. Their busy lifestyles included interests in local clubs, hobbies, and travel. Soon, however, the two would veer off on a very different path, one that shaped them as nationally recognized leaders of racial justice activism and long-time heroes to thousands of Black citizens who benefited from their persistence and generosity. Their discussions about the need for equal rights and opportunities found them drawn to meetings of an upstart group, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and, by 1910, Joel Spingarn was elected to the group's Executive Committee, while his brother was named as an NAACP vice president. Throughout their careers, the brothers both took terms as NAACP presidents and struggled with numerous disappointments and setbacks, hand in hand with brilliant successes, as they participated in an aggressive forward movement toward equal treatment and rights for all. In And Another Thing: Nonanthropocentrism and Art, Katherine Behar and Emmy Mikelson explore how artists engage with nonanthropocentrism, one of the primary tenets shared by recent speculative realist and new materialist philosophies. Extending their investigations in And Another Thing, an exhibition which the authors curated in 2011, this volume documents both that exhibition and expands on two of its curatorial aims: prioritizing art historical contexts for contemporary philosophy (rather than the other way around), and apprehending artworks as historically specific objects of philosophy.The book is organized in three sections. In the first section, Behar and Mikelson provide long-form essays that chart the evolution of nonanthropocentrism and art, spanning eighteenth-century architectural drawing, performance, minimalist sculpture, and contemporary postminimalism.
