Cooper James is not into tai chi, tarot or transactional analysis. She’s into traveling—or thought she was. On the final leg of an around-the-world trip, she finds herself on the island of Maui and nearly loses what she once thought of as her sanity. Her plans for staying in a cheap motel and lying on the beach are abruptly waylaid when she becomes nanny of three free-spirited kids, the guardian of an Esoteric Cat, and the target of new-age therapists who want to Shift her Energy. This was not what she had in mind for the grand finale of her years of independent travel. Determined to make her own way (it might look a lot like rebellion to the untrained eye), she changes her name to Kat Mandu and opens her own business—The Holistic Advertising Agency. She imparts otherworldly wisdom to her clients based on Coffee-Ground Readings, Uno Card Spreads, and the psychic channelings from the Queen of Cats, Cleopatra. Finally, she has found what she never knew she was looking for: a soapbox on which to stand, a mighty sword to release her from the bonds of mediocrity: Holistic Advertising (HA)—a recently made-up ancient tradition.
“A terrific contemporary romance” set in the wild northwest from the New York Times bestselling author of the Maximum Security novels (Booklist). One of a kind. Kat Martin’s heroes are as rugged and tough as they come, but honor rules no matter how hot the temptation . . . Call Hawkins just wants to be left alone and leave the past where it belongs. The bleak beauty of Dead Horse Creek is a perfect place to get away from the world . . . a place where nothing exists to remind him of everything he’s lost. His isolation is complete—until Charity Sinclair arrives fresh from New York City. Stunningly beautiful and stubbornly independent, she’s also shamefully ignorant of the untamed wilderness . . . and the very real dangers she’ll face if Call doesn’t teach her a thing or two. But even with Call’s grudging help, Charity’s dream of life in the Yukon may have led her into something much more savage than the forest: A menace as endless as the long days that run together without darkness—and a killer who won’t let anything come between him and perfect, deadly vengeance . . . Praise for Kat Martin “Kat Martin is a fast gun when it comes to storytelling, and I love her books.” —Linda Lael Miller, #1 New York Times bestselling author “A terrific storyteller.” —Booklist “It doesn’t matter what Martin’s characters are up against—she dishes up romantic suspense, sizzling sex and international intrigue.” —RT Book Reviews “[A] master of suspenseful romance.” —Publishers Weekly

When Martin Luther mounted his challenge to the Catholic Church, reform stimulated a range of responses, including radical solutions such as those proposed by theologians of the Anabaptist movement. But how did ordinary Anabaptists, men and women, grapple with the theological and emotional challenges of the Lutheran Reformation? Anabaptism developed along unique lines in the Lutheran heartlands in central Germany, where the movement was made up of scattered groups and did not centre on charismatic leaders as it did elsewhere. Ideas were spread more often by word of mouth than by print, and many Anabaptists had uneven attachment to the movement, recanting and then relapsing. Historiography has neglected Anabaptism in this area, since it had no famous leaders and does not seem to have been numerically strong. Baptism, Brotherhood, and Belief challenges these assumptions, revealing how Anabaptism's development in central Germany was fundamentally influenced by its interaction with Lutheran theology. In doing so, it sets a new agenda for understandings of Anabaptism in central Germany, as ordinary individuals created new forms of piety which mingled ideas about brotherhood, baptism, the Eucharist, and gender and sex. Anabaptism in this region was not an isolated sect but an important part of the confessional landscape of the Saxon lands, and continued to shape Lutheran pastoral affairs long after scholarship assumed it had declined. The choices these Anabaptist men and women made sat on a spectrum of solutions to religious concerns raised by the Reformation. Understanding their decisions, therefore, provides new insights into how religious identities were formed in the Reformation era.
Co-designing Infrastructures tells the story of a research programme designed to bring the power of engineering and technology into the hands of grassroots community groups, to create bottom-up solutions to global crises. Four projects in London are described in detail, exemplifying community collaboration with engineers, designers and scientists to enact urban change. The projects co-designed solutions to air pollution, housing, the water-energy-food nexus and water management. Rich case-study accounts are underpinned by theories of participation, environmental politics and socio-technical systems. The projects at the heart of the book are grounded in specific settings facing challenges familiar to urban communities throughout the world. This place-based approach to infrastructure is of international relevance as a foundation for urban resilience and sustainability. The authors document the tools used to deliver this work, providing guidance for others who are working to deliver local technical solutions to complex social and environmental problems around the world. This is a book for engineers, designers, community organisers and researchers. Co-authored by researchers, it includes voices of community collaborators, their experiences, frustrations and aspirations. It explores useful theories about infrastructure, engineering and resilience from international academic research, and situates it in community-based co-design experience, to explain why bottom-up approaches are needed and how they might succeed.
