An inspiring blend of nature writing and memoir that explores nature’s crucial role in our emotional and mental health Bats can hear shapes, plants can eat light, and bees can dance maps. When his life took him to a painfully dark place, the poet behind The CryptoNaturalist, Jarod K. Anderson, found comfort and redemption in these facts and the shift in perspective that comes from paying a new kind of attention to nature. Something in the Woods Loves You tells the story of the darkest stretch of a young person’s life, and how deliberate and meditative encounters with plants and animals helped him see the light at every turn. Ranging from optimistic contemplations of mortality to appreciations of a single mushroom, Anderson has written a lyrical love letter to the natural world and given us the tools to see it all anew. Providing guidance to library technology decision-makers, this report offers coverage of such important topics as:The five major elements of managing electronic resources: knowledge bases, acquisitions, administration and contracts, licensing, and reporting;Vendor systems from EBSCO, Ex Libris, and Innovative Interfaces, as well as three open source (OS) solutions; How ERMs function as a component of the library service platforms of OCLC Worldshare, Ex Libris Alma, Serial Solutions Intota, Kuali OLE, and Innovative Interfaces Sierra

God has two purposes for you: To believe in Jesus and then to become like Jesus. This book focuses on the latter. Though we cannot attain such perfection, John said that followers of Jesus “should live their lives as Jesus did” (1 John 2:6 NLT). The process of becoming like Jesus is the work of the Holy Spirit, but the Spirit does not transform us without our cooperation. The premise of this book is that we enable the Spirit to make us like Jesus by cultivating seven habits. The seven habits are derived from Luke’s description of the first church in Acts 2:42-47. Luke was an honest historian who frankly recorded the sins and strife of the early church, yet this passage is thoroughly positive. In it, he mentions seven habits practiced by that ideal church. This book describes those habits, including practical suggestions for how to develop each. This book is titled 7 Habits for a Rich and Satisfying Life because our heavenly Father loves us and wants what’s best for us. We will find fulfillment in life as we fulfill his good design for us. Jesus said, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10 ESV), or as it says in the New Living Translation, “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”

Gilbert Patten, writing as Burt L. Standish, made a career of generating serialized twenty-thousand-word stories featuring his fictional creation Frank Merriwell, a student athlete at Yale University who inspired others to emulate his example of manly boyhood. Patten and his publisher, Street and Smith, initially had only a general idea about what would constitute Merriwell’s adventures and who would want to read about them when they introduced the hero in the dime novel Tip Top Weekly in 1896, but over the years what took shape was a story line that capitalized on middle-class fears about the insidious influence of modern life on the nation’s boys. Merriwell came to symbolize the Progressive Era debate about how sport and school made boys into men. The saga featured the attractive Merriwell distinguishing between “good” and “bad” girls and focused on his squeaky-clean adventures in physical development and mentorship. By the serial’s conclusion, Merriwell had opened a school for “weak and wayward boys” that made him into a figure who taught readers how to approximate his example. In Frank Merriwell and the Fiction of All-American Boyhood, Anderson treats Tip Top Weekly as a historical artifact, supplementing his reading of its text, illustrations, reader letters, and advertisements with his use of editorial correspondence, memoirs, trade journals, and legal documents. Anderson blends social and cultural history, with the history of business, gender, and sport, along with a general examination of childhood and youth in this fascinating study of how a fictional character was used to promote a homogeneous “normal” American boyhood rooted in an assumed pecking order of class, race, and gender.
