The main focus of this monograph is urban acoustic environment of urban spatial morphology. It provides in-depth evaluation and research on the correlation between urban spatial morphology indicator and urban acoustic environment using urban spatial morphology and urban space units. Furthermore, it conducts quantitative analysis and statistic evaluation to reveal the relationship between urban planning indicators and acoustic environment. It also provides optimized strategies from three aspects of urban planning, architecture and landscape respectively. It intertwines the quantitative research of both acoustic environment and urban morphology through in-depth analysis and urban microclimate simulation by using Cadna/A acoustic simulation software. It concludes the influencing mechanism of acoustic environment on urban morphology. It makes a valuable contribution for the research on urban environment and urban morphology.
This book focuses on the urban wind environment of urban center district. Through urban spatial morphology and urban space units it provides in-depth evaluation and research on the correlation between urban spatial morphology indicator and urban wind environment. Based on urban spatial morphology indicators, such as building density, FAR, average building height and wind environment parameter, it conducts quantitative analysis and statistic evaluation to acquire the influence relationship between urban planning indicators and wind speed. In addition, based on the 13 typical urban morphology units it also analyses the different situation of wind environment. Finally it provides the optimized strategies on urban planning, architecture and landscape. It intertwines the quantitative research between wind environment and urban morphology through in-depth analysis and urban microclimate simulation. It makes a valuable contribution for the research on urban environment and urban morphology.
A major objective of this monograph is to identify the impact of thermal environment on urban center district. It provides in-depth evaluation and research on the correlation between urban spatial morphology indicator and urban thermal environment. In addition, the distribution characteristics of thermal environment and urban morphology units sample are also evaluated intensively. Furthermore, it analyses from three aspects of urban planning, architecture and landscape respectively and includes 35 concrete measures that could be brought into practice on reducing negative impact of urban thermal environment. Through 500 vivid figures, graphs and diagrams it illustrates the relationship between urban morphology and urban thermal environment. The analysis software employed by the author includes Ecotect, ENVI-met and Ray-man. It intertwines the quantitative research of both thermal environment and urban morphology through in-depth analysis and urban microclimate simulation. It makes a valuable contribution for the research on urban environment and urban morphology.
This book presents the latest research results related to urban center and urban center. It expounds the theoretical connotation, development models, hierarchical function, and spatial layout of the urban central structure through over 200 figures and tables. In addition, it analyzes the threshold characteristics, structural hierarchy, spatial characteristics, and development rules of urban central structure through field research and quantitative researches on the major urban central structures in Asia. Meanwhile, how to solve the issue of construction and layout of urban central structure in planning and design practice is also covered. The book reveals the laws and spatial characteristics of urban central structure and provides a valuable guide both for urban designers and planners as well as researchers and students working in urban design and planning fields. It sheds new light on better understanding of the urban central structure.
This book combines the ideologies of parentocracy and consumer theory as theoretical lenses to view the private supplementary tutoring, also known as shadow education, with a focus on the demand at primary and lower secondary levels in China. It first explains parents’ motivations of seeking private tutoring and their decision-making dynamics, and then explores the evolving micro-level process of demand that has changed over time. It further investigates how demand for private tutoring varies across parental socioeconomic status. This book also discusses parents’ attitudes towards the Double Reduction policy and corresponding changes in their demand for tutoring. It concludes with some implications for regulating private tutoring and for improving school education. This book has pertinence in other countries as well as in China. Unpacking the demand for tutoring improves understanding of the global expansion and changing shapes of the phenomenon. Researchers, educational policy-makers, teachers, tutors, consultants, and other educational practitioners interested in the topic of private tutoring will find this work thought-provoking, instructive and informative.
Many nations and states have tried to build successful technological industries, but failed. Taiwan is an exception. Indeed, it is the third-largest production center for integrated circuits and personal computers. How has Taiwan made it, and how to do business successfully with Taiwan? This book aims to provide answers to those questions and to share the successful experience of Taiwan with others. If Taiwan could make it, then other nations, by learning from its experiences and patterns of development, can also make it, or even excel Taiwan. The book presents historical and analytical views covering most aspects of Taiwan''s development patterns, including innovations of management and technology, production and business infrastructures, capital and human resources, education and government policies, and competitive characteristics of people and cultures. Contents: Overview: The Development of Taiwan''s IC Industry: An Overview (C-Y Chang & P-L Yu); Management Innovation: The Three Vs of Global Competitiveness (H-L Li & J-J Shuai); Employee Profit Sharing and Stock Ownership Attracts World-Class Employees (A-P Chen & S-W Wang); IC/PC Industries: The Integrated Circuit Industry: A Technological Powerhouse (C V Trappey & H Chen); IC Foundries: A Booming Industry (M-C Wu); Taiwan''s IC Packaging Industry: A Local Success Story Goes International (P-L Chang & C-T Tsai); The Notebook Niche (J-H Huang); Desktop PCs: A Project Management Revolution (C Yang); Technical and Capital Innovation: Competing in the Knowledge Game: Intellectual Property Rights (S-J Liu); Investment: The Life Blood of Growth (C-Y Hung); Education and Government Policy: The Industrial Park: Government''s Gift to Industrial Development (P-L Chang & C-W Hsu); Intellectual Capital in the Information Industry (G-H Tzeng & M-Y Lee); Culture and People: Five Life Experiences That Shape Taiwan''s Character (P-L Yu & C-Y ChiangLin). Readership: Students and researchers in economics and business management, as well as business leaders and economic planners.
This book focuses on the performance optimization of fault diagnosis methods for power systems including both model-driven ones, such as the linear parameter varying algorithm, and data-driven ones, such as random matrix theory. Studies on fault diagnosis of power systems have long been the focus of electrical engineers and scientists. Pursuing a holistic approach to improve the accuracy and efficiency of existing methods, the underlying concepts toward several algorithms are introduced and then further applied in various situations for fault diagnosis of power systems in this book. The primary audience for the book would be the scholars and graduate students whose research topics including the control theory, applied mathematics, fault detection, and so on.
This book examines paintings using a computational and quantitative approach. Specifically, it compares paintings to photographs, addressing the strengths and limitations of both. Particular aesthetic practices are examined such as the vista, foreground to background organisation and the depth planes. These are analysed using a range of computational approaches and clear observations are made. New generations of image-capture devices such as Google goggles and the light field camera, promise a future in which the formal attributes of a photograph are made available for editing to a degree that has hitherto been the exclusive territory of painting. In this sense paintings and photographs are converging, and it therefore seems an opportune time to study the comparisons between them. In this context, the book includes cutting-edge work examining how some of the aesthetic attributes of a painting can be transferred to a photograph using the latest computational approaches.
