Muitas pessoas descrevem essas lutas como “lidar com demônios interiores”. Ocorrem situações de desregramento, tormento, vício e até tentativas de suicídio. Gostaria de apresentar a você o que o Espírito Santo gentilmente me apresentou há muitos anos, através da Bíblia Sagrada. Gostaria ainda de eliminar a sombra do “elefante na sala”, que os crentes optam por ignorar, na esperança de que ele saia sozinho. Não tenha medo de ter dúvidas e de questionar a realidade. What is the best way to divide a 'cake' and allocate the pieces among some finite collection of players? In this book, the cake is a measure space, and each player uses a countably additive, non-atomic probability measure to evaluate the size of the pieces of cake, with different players generally using different measures. The author investigates efficiency properties (is there another partition that would make everyone at least as happy, and would make at least one player happier, than the present partition?) and fairness properties (do all players think that their piece is at least as large as every other player's piece?). He focuses exclusively on abstract existence results rather than algorithms, and on the geometric objects that arise naturally in this context. By examining the shape of these objects and the relationship between them, he demonstrates results concerning the existence of efficient and fair partitions.

The key to productivity improvement is advanced automation, especially computer-integrated automation for engineering design and office operations as well as manufacturing processes. This is the theme of 1983 International Conference on Advanced Automation, ICAA-83. This book contains the articles which are the revised and updated version of the papers presented at the ICAA-83 Conference. Traditionally, automation is synonymous with mechanization; but this Conference has treated automation from a different point of view. We consider automation as a process to unify various automated information processing systems for performing business, administration, design, engineering and manufacturing functions, in addition to the traditional fixed automation in production. In other words, design automation and office automation form an inte gral part of factory automation to accomplish comprehensive computer-integrated manufacturing and production. In engineering and manufacturing today, quality design and high productivity are synonymous with the use of computers, robots, expert systems, and other computer-based technologies. The greater the degree of computer-based automation exploited and implemented, the greater a nation's ability to survive in tomorrow's extremely competitive world market.
