His book offers information on why it is important to eat a raw and alkaline diet for optimum health. The Importance Of Eating Raw Eating raw will deliver many of the same benefits as going alkaline, such as a higher energy level and improved health conditions. Eating raw also delivers another jolt of life force to your food. The dominant thought behind raw foods is that they are living foods, as opposed to dead foods, which have had the nutrition cooked out of them. Cooked foods can lose up to 85% of the nutrients you otherwise would have received. The Importance Of Eating Alkaline-Based Foods According to the Science of Dr. Robert Young author of “The pH Miracle”, the pH level of the body must be higher alkaline to ensure optimal health. Studies show that an alkaline body can help to prevent serious health problems, such as: Obesity, Diabetes, Asthma, High-Blood Pressure, Arthritis, Heart Disease and more. Chef Sal shares his philosophy of staying energized and keeping young through a lifestyle of healthy living through exercise, diet and a positive outlook.
Winner of the Francis Butler Simkins Award for 1995 and the 1994 General L. Kemper Williams Prize In what may be the most impressive research to date of state supreme court records, this study analyzes the evolution of Loui siana’s slave laws from the territorial period to the Civil War. Schafer presents numerous concise case his tories, stories that are fascinating and at times heartbreaking in the particulars they reveal about slaves’ existence. Anyone interested in slavery will find Schafer’s work riveting reading, for it depicts in detail, probably better than most fictional or narrative accounts, what living in bondage could mean.
Scaramuzza, Scaramouche: the commedia dell'arte figure made a triumphal entry into German literature in the plays of Caspar Stieler (1632&–1707). Transformed into a master of language and languages, Scaramutza&—social critic, voluptuary, and mouthpiece for his author&—ushers in a new type of comedy that depends more on the happy ending than on laughter for its effect. This study should both establish the significance of the long-neglected dramatic works of Caspar Stieler, already regarded as an important lyric poet of the German Baroque, and serve to initiate a reevaluation of German comedy and of the standard definition of the comic genre used by Germanists as Aikin explores the heroic or romantic comedy as a subgenre of literary merit. The study includes a discussion of Stieler's important contributions to the development of the German-language Singspiel and opera.
In The Gardens of Los Poblanos, landscape designer and garden writer Judith Phillips recounts the history of these world-renowned gardens and demonstrates the ways in which the farm's owners, designers, and gardeners have influenced the evolution of this unique landscape. Phillips showcases how the changes in landscape style and content are driven by cultural expectations and climatic realities, and she discusses how the gardens of Los Poblanos have helped preserve the deep agrarian roots of the village of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque. Although plants are always a focus for Phillips, she demonstrates how gardens are more than plants and how plants are much more than mere fillers of garden space.
Much of the biography is based on Baillie's now published letters (FDUP, 1999) to family members, literary figures, scientists, religious leaders, artists, and friends in England, Scotland, and the United States; and her correspondence is supplemented with further biographical evidence and with critical commentary on her works."--BOOK JACKET.

Through the colorful family histories and rich detail of the Zimmern Chronicle, historian Judith Hurwich examines marriage, family, and sexuality among the early modern German nobility. She uses the house chronicles of the Zimmern family and the families of the counts and barons with whom they intermarried to investigate marriage and nonmarital sexuality in the southwest German nobility in the late fifteenth and the sixteenth centuries. Along with a deeper look at women’s roles as wives, mothers, and concubines, Noble Strategies shines a light on the intimate lives of the early modern German elite.
The United States has experienced a period of prolonged and unprecedented carceral state control and growth over the last forty years. This immense growth reflects changes in sentencing policies, including mandatory and determinate terms for a broader range of offenses and an emphasis on punishment rather than rehabilitation. In what Frost and Clear (2009) described as the "grand social experiment of mass incarceration," more people go into prison for more extended periods, creating a buildup that harms adults, children, families, communities, and society. The justification for incarceration has been seeded in two ideas: incapacitation-separating "bad actors" from would-be victims---and deterrence, discouraging repeat crimes due to the fear of punishment. In what is referred to as the "prison paradox" (Steman, 2017), an analysis of the imprisonment and crime rate relationship for the last two decades has shown that increased incarceration has had a weak connection to lowered crime rates. Steman describes other factors that explain the decrease in crime rates, including an aging population, increased employment and wages, boosted consumer confidence, enlarged law enforcement personnel, and different policing strategies"--
Judith Clifton, Francisco Comín and Daniel Díaz Fuentes in Privatisation in the European Union reject the two dominant explanations provided in literature, which include a simple 'Americanisation' of policy and a 'varied' privatisation experience without a common driving force. Using a systematic comparative analysis of privatisation experiences in each country from the 1980s to the beginning of the twenty first century, the authors show how the process of European integration and the need for internationally competitive industries have constituted key driving forces in the quest for privatisation across the EU. As privatisation slows down at the turn of the millennium, what future can citizens expect for public enterprises? Privatisation in the European Union is essential reading for researchers, students and policy-makers interested in privatisation, EU policy and the history of public enterprises.
One of the enduring myths of the Franco state was that the Nationalist forces that won the Civil War consisted of patriotic Spaniards while the Republic was defended by a rag tag army of foreign 'reds.' During the Spanish civil war, however, many groups on the European right were galvanized by the Nationalist cause. European fascists, conservative Catholics and those uneasy with liberal democracy in general rallied to the figure of Franco, who appeared to be holding the line against secularism, modernism and Bolshevism. This book recounts the experiences of a number of foreign volunteers, including the brigades of White Russians, Romanians, Irish and the French volunteers in the Jeanne d'Arc battalion, all of whom saw their engagement in Spain as a means of promoting their own political causes at home. As well there were individual women and men, from the New World and the Old, who were moved by religion, politics or simply adventurism to join up with Franco. Fighting for Franco reconstructs their motivation and the mind set which took them to Spain. It thus casts a new light on Nationalist Spain and on the specific concerns of a wide variety of right-wing movements between the wars.
