In this survey the authors endeavor to give a comprehensive examination of the theory of measures having values in Banach spaces. The interplay between topological and geometric properties of Banach spaces and the properties of measures having values in Banach spaces is the unifying theme. The first chapter deals with countably additive vector measures finitely additive vector measures, the Orlicz-Pettis theorem and its relatives. Chapter II concentrates on measurable vector valued functions and the Bochner integral. Chapter III begins the study of the interplay among the Radon-Nikodym theorem for vector measures, operators on $L_1$ and topological properties of Banach spaces. A variety of applications is given in the next chapter. Chapter V deals with martingales of Bochner integrable functions and their relation to dentable subsets of Banach spaces. Chapter VI is devoted to a measure-theoretic study of weakly compact absolutely summing and nuclear operators on spaces of continuous functions. In Chapter VII a detailed study of the geometry of Banach spaces with the Radon-Nikodym property is given. The next chapter deals with the use of Radon-Nikodym theorems in the study of tensor products of Banach spaces. The last chapter concludes the survey with a discussion of the Liapounoff convexity theorem and other geometric properties of the range of a vector measure. Accompanying each chapter is an extensive survey of the literature and open problems.

In the summer of 2019, a group of kia'i, or protectors, made up of kānaka 'ōiwi (Native Hawaiians) and their allies came together to prevent the construction of the Thirty-Meter Telescope (TMT) on the dormant volcano Maunakea. In Mele on the Mauna, Joseph Keola Donaghy explores how music, and especially haku mele, or Hawaiian language composers, played a crucial role in this defense. Musicians flocked to the mauna (mountain) to perform for the kia'i and a worldwide audience via social media. Haku mele created new songs at unprecedented levels, releasing many commercially with proceeds benefiting organizations providing support services and supplies to the kia'i. This book features over 30 of the author's interviews with individuals who participated in musical activities connected with this movement, including kia'i and their supporters, composers, musicians, and community leaders. Donaghy explores Indigenous Hawaiian concepts and theories like mana (power), mo'okū'auhau and pilina (genealogy and relationships), kapu aloha (philosophical code of conduct), and aloha 'āina (love of land, patriotism), and western academic concepts like connectedness and community building, poetics, sound(ing) and silenc(e/ing), conflict, and creativity. Mele on the Mauna illuminates how music played a powerful role in building solidarity, inspiration, and activism, reveling in the most contentious confrontations about protecting Maunakea and the outpouring of musical performances and creativity that occurred.

The history of the Mwaghavul is a long one, documented in various forms, ranging from records of administration by the colonialist, to the documentation of archaeological discoveries by white explorers and administrators, documentation and analysis of languages, oral lore and culture by linguists and the latest series of narration and documentation of various aspects of the Mwaghavul people by students and individuals. These have not been collated into a single source of information about the Mwaghavul. Information on the history of the Mwaghavul are mostly found in students thesis, dissertations and long essays on Mwaghavul origin, the Jos Museum, National Archives Kaduna (NAK), the Jos Province (Jos. Prof) archival materials and the History Department of the University of Jos and other Nigerian Universities. Providing a comprehensive history of the Mwaghavul for its future generations is the aim of this book. This is in view of the fact that most of the older publications and documented information on the Mwaghavul are out of print. In addition, the transmission of history from the elderly to the younger generation is dying out as the gap between these two is ever widening because of the rural-urban drift in the country, and the international migration of the Mwaghavul people. Primary source of information was obtained from oral traditions of the Mwaghavul people with focus group discussions conducted with elderly Mwaghavul people and opinion leaders, including visits and interviews of individuals during key Mwaghavul festivities such as Ryem-Pushit, Titdiu-Kombun, Kopshu-Mpang West, Bwanzuhum-Kerang and Wus-Panyam. Secondary data were sourced from written documents and records of colonial administration, explorers and early missionaries. Other sources of secondary data were academic write-ups on Mwaghavul students thesis in Nigerian tertiary institutions and write-ups on Mwaghavul by individuals in the society. The use of both indigenous and corrupted (by English or Hausa) names for Mwaghavul polity and places are generally adapted in this work. The Mwaghavul language is among the Afro-Asiatic languages spoken on the Jos Plateau and it belongs to the Chadic sub-family as indicated by Isichei (1982, p. 7) and Meek (1971). Although Meek places it under the Hamitic group, Ames (1983), Isichei (1982) and Danfulani (1995a, 2003) place it under the Nilo-Saharan or Afro-asiatic, under the Chadic sub unit. Professional linguists, among them, Crozier & Blench (1992), Zygmunt Frajzyngier (1991, 1993), Paul Newman (1990), Carl Hoffman (1976), Joseph Greenberg (1966), Hermann Jungraithmayr (1963/64, 1970) and Hermann Jungraithmayr and D. Ibriszimov (1994) all agree with the opinion given above when they unanimously assert that Mwaghavul as a language belongs to the Chadic branch of the Afro-Asiatic, which is elsewhere referred to such in the works of Richard Morr (1968) and Daniel N. Wambutda (1991) as Nilo Saharan. This makes the Mwaghavul and their other Chadic-speaking neighbours of the Jos Plateau and other groups scattered between the Chad-Borno basin and the Jos Plateau hills, the kinsmen of the Maguzawa or the Hausa, which constitute the single largest Chadic-speaking group in the whole world. Isichei (1982, 1983) further notes that Mwaghavul is closely related with and is mutually intelligible to Goemai, Ngas, Montol, Mupun, Mship, Chakfem, Yuom, Mushere, Kulere, Jipal, Njak and other Chadic languages spoken on the eastern part of the Jos Plateau, especially in Bokkos, Pankshin, Kanke, Mikang, Tal and Shendam Local Government Areas of Plateau State. According to proponents of the migrant view, the Chadic speakers presently found on the Jos Plateau left Borno between 1100 A.D. and 1350 A.D. They were among the pre-Kanuri inhabitants possibly associated with the So who had occupied the plains of the Chad basin. In Mwaghavul so or sokho means horse racing. The first edition of this work appeared almost thirty years ago, when, as we can see in retrospect, the study of the actinide elements was in its first bloom. Although the broad features of the chemistry of the actinide elements were by then quite well delineated, the treatment of the subject in the first edition was of necessity largely descriptive in nature. A detailed understanding of the chemical consequences of the characteristic presence of Sf electrons in most of the members of the actinide series was still for the future, and many of the systematic features of the actinide elements were only dimly apprehended. In the past thirty years all this has changed. The application of new spectroscopic techniques, which came into general use during this period, and new theoretical insights, which came from a better understanding of chemical bonding, inorganic chemistry, and solid state phenomena, were among the important factors that led to a great expansion and maturation in actinide element research and a large number of new and important findings. The first edition consisted of a serial description of the individual actinide elements, with a single chapter devoted to the six heaviest elements (lawrencium, the heaviest actinide, was yet to be discovered). Less than 15 % of the text was devoted to a consideration of the systematics of the actinide elements.

The theory of weak convergence of probability measures is introduced along with general and usable methods (for example, perturbed test function, martingale, and direct averaging) for proving tightness and weak convergence. Kushner's study begins with a systematic development of the method. It then treats dynamical system models that have state-dependent noise or nonsmooth dynamics. Perturbed Liapunov function methods are developed for stability studies of nonMarkovian problems and for the study of asymptotic distributions of non-Markovian systems. Three chapters are devoted to applications in control and communication theory (for example, phase-locked loops and adoptive filters). Smallnoise problems and an introduction to the theory of large deviations and applications conclude the book. Harold J. Kushner is Professor of Applied Mathematics and Engineering at Brown University and is one of the leading researchers in the area of stochastic processes concerned with analysis and synthesis in control and communications theory. The company finally found a driver who would be kept on this route and not only get the job done but dealt with these hoodlums. This book has stories not only of the author but stories of others who also had similar problems.

Readers will learn how, as an inherent faculty of the RNA/DNA complex, the primordial cell survival pathways are endogenously reactivated in an amplified or constitutive manner in the multicellular host, and are either masquerading as self-elements or as placentas, to which the multicellular host is evolutionarily trained to extend full support. The host obliges. The author explains that there is no such evidence that “malignantly transformed” human cells survive in nature. However, when cared for in the laboratory, these cells live and replicate as immortalized cultures. These cells retain their vitality upon storage in liquid nitrogen. One can only imagine an astrophysical environment in which such cells could survive; perhaps, first their seemingly humble exosomes would populate that environment. Immortal cell populations so created may survive as individuals, or may even re-organize themselves into multicellular colonies, as representatives of life for the duration of the Universe. This thought-provoking book is the work of a disciplined investigator and clinician with an impeccable reputation, and he enters a territory that very few if any before him have approached from the same angles. It will appeal to researchers with an interest in cell survival pathways and those researching cancer cells.

Digital and social media are increasingly integrated into the dynamics of protest movements around the world. They strengthen the mobilization power of movements, extend movement networks, facilitate new modes of protest participation, and give rise to new protest formations. Meanwhile, conventional media remains an important arena where protesters and their targets contest for public support. This book examines the role of the media -- understood as an integrated system comprised of both conventional media institutions and digital media platforms -- in the formation and dynamics of the Umbrella Movement in Hong Kong. For 79 days in 2014, Hong Kong became the focus of international attention due to a public demonstration for genuine democracy that would become known as the Umbrella Movement. During this time, twenty percent of the local population would join the demonstration, the most large-scale and sustained act of civil disobedience in Hong Kong's history -- and the largest public protest campaign in China since the 1989 student movement in Beijing. On the surface, this movement was not unlike other large-scale protest movements that have occurred around the world in recent years. However, it was distinct in how bottom-up processes evolved into a centrally organized, programmatic movement with concrete policy demands. In this book, Francis L. F. Lee and Joseph M. Chan connect the case of the Umbrella Movement to recent theorizations of new social movement formations. Here, Lee and Chan analyze how traditional mass media institutions and digital media combined with on-the-ground networks in such a way as to propel citizen participation and the evolution of the movement as a whole. As such, they argue that the Umbrella Movement is important in the way it sheds light on the rise of digital-media-enabled social movements, the relationship between digital media platforms and legacy media institutions, the power and limitations of such occupation protests and new "action logics," and the continual significance of old protest logics of resource mobilization and collective action frames. Through a combination of protester surveys, population surveys, analyses of news contents and social media activities, this book reconstructs a rich and nuanced account of the Umbrella Movement, providing insight into numerous issues about the media-movement nexus in the digital era.

McAbee finds the thread that links the two murders and concludes that the murderer of both women is still at large, rattled by Agatha’s inquiries. As McAbee’s attention shifts to the 1978 cold case, among many obstacles he must deal with is the chief homicide investigator of Rock Island who detests McAbee for his relationship with Augusta Satin, his pillar of strength, confidant, and more at ACJ. Leads are few, as McAbee must deal with an assortment of characters to gain a foothold. After many dead ends, he finally catches a break. But it puts him up against a professional killer mentored and protected by one of the world’s greatest powers.
