The book takes off where its predecessor The New Ghana, the international best seller published in 1958, Ghana’s first independence anniversary, ended. Absorbing, balanced and detailed, it is nevertheless controversial and challenging. Unique for its vignettes on all the major personalities of the five decades that the author has been privileged to interact with. The book challenges certain myths about the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. The slow rate of development in Ghana in particular and Africa in general: the reasons why Ghana, despite its vast natural and mineral resources, is still a developing country. Traditions and customs which negate the rapid development of Ghana and robustly reviewed. What killed Nkrumah? Was Nkrumah anti-white? These are only a few of the interesting questions that the book attempts to answer. The book, which is unique in many ways, ends on a note of hope and expectation – that the next 5 years would be better than the last half century. Only time can tell.

And over the period of 60 years of adulthood he has tried to understand the causes of this dangerous ideology. Are People born racist or is it an acquired characteristic? Why did Europe become associated with racism? What are the effects, economic, political and psychological on both the racists and their victims? Can racism be eradicated? Why arent white women racist or insignificantly so compared with men? These are a few of the questions and issues about racism which have interested the author for many years. It is hoped that the reader would not only find this book interesting but he/she would make a contribution however modest toward the elimination of this global problem which has brought immense calamity to the world.

Why is Africa, the cradle of Mankind, the second largest and second most populous continent in the world, endowed with abundant natural and mineral resources, the poorest on our planet? Who or what are responsible for this sad situation? Are the colonialists alone to blame? What has been the input of Africans in bringing about this predicament? Any viable and realistic solutions to the present and future daunting challenges or is the great continent consigned to decades of more deprivation ignorance, human misery and diseases? These are some of the pertinent questions that the author has tried to grapple with. He attempts to make the case that it is quite feasible in fifty years for all countries in Africa to be at least in the middle income group if certain actions and programs are adopted. Some views in this book may be found distressing and uncomfortable but they are meant hopefully to assist move Africa forward, so that the great continent of Africa as soon as realistically possible stops being the beneficiary of external aid, largesse and compassion.
