This is the story of the conflict between a Brooklyn detective and the head of a New York organized crime family. The crime boss is helpful to the Organized Crime Task Force in eliminating his enemies. The detective is appalled by the duplicitous nature of the relationship between the crime boss and the police. Torn by the need for the cooperation from the crime boss and his sense of "sleeping with the devil" the detective struggles with the relationship. On a parallel track, the detective meets the son of the crime boss and is impressed by the youngster, who is conflicted by the way of his father as well as the expectations placed upon him. The detective subtly urges the son not to follow the ways of his father. He strongly encourages the son to follow a legitimate life style. The son comes to admire the integrity of the detective. A level of respect develops. The detective understands the pressure on the son of the crime boss. The son respects the fundamental decency of the detective. The detective, in his own research, learns of a business connection between the head of the crime family and senior politicians. His superiors do not want the connection pursued and strongly direct that the detective cease his investigation The detective's career is threatened. Deeply disturbed by the extent of the corruption, the detective continues to develop the case. Finally, the detective presents a pervasive and compelling overview. Then, faced with a potential revelation of the broad based corruption, the crime boss, with the acceptance of the politicians, decide to eliminate the detective through an unrelated ruse. The son of the crime boss learns of his father's plans and desperately tries to talk his father out of the planned hit, as unnecessary. The son is unsuccessful. The son of the crime boss, moved by the senseless killing, in turn, seeks out the son of the detective and quietly tries to

Ordained at age 49 as a Maryknoll priest, he was assigned to work in the jungles of Guatemala. After some nine years of mission in Guatemala and the murder of one of his workers, he returned to the States. Assigned to his organization’s Treasury Department with a further assignment to represent his organization in a national organization named the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility. Its purpose was to challenge Corporations to adjust their outreach among the various entities they hire/serve in a more ethically manner both in the treatment of people and creation. Through this writing, he raises issues of injustices familiar to all of us and proposes solutions that we as a people might share for the betterment of all society.

The general opinion of Warren Harding is that he has been justly ranked as the Worst of our Presidents, based largely on the corruption that was brought to light after his death. The truth is, however, that he had no personal involvement in any of the scandals perpetrated by members of his Administration, some of whom, like Jess Smith, an unofficial aid to the Attorney General, engaged in notorious grafting that often netted six figure rewards. Harding, by contrast, died a debtor. Neither a lawyer or general, Harding, head of a rural Ohio newspaper, was not considered an appropriate candidate for high office, no less the Presidency. But an awareness of shortcomings, lead to his making a studious effort to overcome them-- successfully, as recorded by leading reporters like William Allen White. As spelled out in this book, there is much to be said on the positive side of Hardings Presidency. Due recognition is given to his accomplishments. In his first year in office, for example he convened a Disarmament Conference and got Congress to ratify the Four Nation Treaty to reduce naval armament. He also created the Bureau of the Budget. Early on, a New York Times story was headlined Harding Assumes Real Leadership as Congress lags. In contrast to his performance as President, handsome Warren was beset by a sex addiction that lead to numerous infidelities, the principal ones being with Carrie Phillips, wife of a friend, and Nan Britton, a hometown admiring young lady, 31 years his junior. Nans memoir of an affair which blossomed into love covered the last six years of Hardings life. Though generally mentioned, and equally suppressed, its intimate content, is, herewith for the first time set forth in detail that reveals a crucial aspect of Hardings oft mentioned love life.

Tracing the development and architectural integration of air-conditioning from its origins in the late nineteenth century to the advent of the environmental movement in the early 1970s, Joseph M. For them, the modernist ideal of functionality was incompletely realized if it did not wholly assimilate heating, cooling, ventilating, and artificial lighting.
