This monograph presents a general methodology which is shown to be valid in the analysis of spatial point structures and that is certainly easier to use by non-expert researchers coming from other applied sciences than other much modern techniques. We suggest that the local conditioning approach has the advantage that it is statistically efficient, easy to correct for edge-effects and provides similar results than other (more complicated) likelihood-based methods. We show a mathematical justification to prove that any purely inhibitory pairwise interaction point process (pipp) can be obtained as the limit of a sequence of auto-Poisson lattice schemes and within this context we develop the pseudolikelihood estimating equations. We particularly focus on developing a Monte Carlo simulation study to analyze the behaviour of the parameter s of a particular pipp model derived using this technique. We also stress that this methodology has a wide range of applications in many fields, particularly in economy and demography.

In this book, the traditional definition of ‘grammaticalization’ is challenged in the light of current developments in grammar theory. The main innovation of this approach is the focus on the feature composition of lexical items. From this perspective, the loss of past participle agreement in Catalan is analyzed on the basis of newly collected data as a consequence of the grammaticalization of formal features. The emergence of syntactic formal features through grammaticalization is understood as a last-resort repair mechanism for pragmatically costly derivations. Further far-reaching implications of this proposal under discussion are: the interplay between (re-)parametrization, economy, cyclicity, and grammaticalization; the characterization of free variation under a modified version of the Interface Hypothesis; and the precedence of syntactic over morphological change. This book is not only of interest to specialists in Romance languages but also to anyone working on diachronic linguistics.

Currently fashionable attempts at treatment through behavioural-cognitive focal approaches do not seek resolution, only re-education and rehabilitation. Contacting the Autistic Child explores the clinical process in the early psychoanalytic treatment of autistic children. Organised around five detailed clinical case studies, and drawing on the ideas of major clinicians in child analysis such as Tustin, Winnicott and Alvarez, this book sets out a clear programme for working with and understanding autistic children in a psychoanalytic setting, with a particular focus on issues of clinical technique but also conceptual matters. Working on the notion that autistic disorders come to be – as Winnicott and Tustin saw it – from an early rupture of the affective communication between baby and mother, this book aims at reinstating such communication in the child-analyst interaction. The atrial substrate undergoes electrical and structural remodeling during atrial fibrillation. Detailed multiscale models were used to study the effect of structural remodeling induced at the cellular and tissue levels. Simulated electrograms were used to train a machine-learning algorithm to characterize the substrate. Also, wave propagation direction was tracked from unannotated electrograms. In conclusion, in silico experiments provide insight into electrograms' information of the substrate.
