This book makes the case that three important advances guided the development of modern dynamic meteorology, which led directly to the astounding progress in weather forecasting—and that Sutcliffe was the pioneer in all three of these foundational developments: the application of the quasi-geostrophic simplification to the equations governing atmospheric behavior, adoption of pressure as the vertical coordinate in analysis, and development of a diagnostic equation for vertical air motions. Shining a light on Sutcliffe’s life and work will, hopefully, inspire a renewed appreciation for the human dimension in scientific progress and the rich legacy bequeathed to societies wise enough to fully embrace investments in education and basic research. There is a driving need for naval professionals to focus on human factors issues. The number of maritime accidents is increasing and the chief cause is human error, both by the designer and the operator. Decreasing crew size, lack of experienced operators, operations in higher sea states and fatigue worsen the situation. Automation can be a partial solution, but flawed automated systems actually contribute to accidents at sea. Up to now, there has been no overarching resource available to naval marine vehicle designers and human factors professionals which bridges the gap between the human and the machine in this context. Designers understand the marine vehicle; human factors professionals understand how a particular environment affects people. Yet neither has a practical understanding of the other's field, and thus communicating requirements and solutions is difficult. This book is my first book followed by others that are on the way. We know and we sense the church is running out of time and space. Apostle Paul mentioned in the book of 1 Timothy 4:7 there will be bad days with many false teachings deceived by the demons. The Catholic worship Maria, saints, and angels. The Pentecostal Church worship the Holy Spirit, the Christians worship Jesus, and everybody ignores the father that Jesus recommends worship in spirit. The Old Testament and the Book of Revelation also are totally ignored, most of the pastors today preach the death and resurrection of Jesus. Nothing about God the Father or prophecy of the last days, nothing about the rapture of the church. In my book, I try to bring out some beautiful messages of the Old Testament and some messages of the coming of anti-Christ and the rapture of the church and about the new creation (Rom.1:25).
