Were hero buildings commissioned as manifestations of certain social beliefs, or as a built environmental form of social advocacy? And if so, then how and why were social aims and intentions translated into architectural form, and how effective were they? A tradition of building architectural monuments to commemorate national heroes developed as a distinctive feature of the Scottish built environment. As concrete manifestations of powerful social and political currents of thought and opinion, these hero buildings make important statements about identity, the nation and social history. The book examines this architectural culture by studying a prominent selection of buildings, such as the Burns monuments in Alloway, Edinburgh and Kilmarnock, the Edinburgh Scott Monument, the Glenfinnan Monument and the Wallace Monument in Stirling. They give testimony to how a variety of architectural forms and styles can be adapted through time to bear particular social messages of symbolic weight. This tradition, which literally allows us to dwell on important social issues of the past, has been somewhat neglected in serious architectural history and heritage, and indeed one of the main monuments has already been destroyed. By raising awareness of this rich architectural and social heritage, while analysing and interpreting the buildings in their historical context, this book makes an exciting and original scholarly contribution to the current debates on identity and nationality taking place in Scotland and the wider UK.

The extraxial-axial theory (EAT) and universal elemental homology (UEH) are often portrayed as mutually exclusive hypotheses of homology within pentaradiate Echinodermata. EAT describes homology upon the echinoderm bauplan, interpreted through early post-metamorphic growth and growth zones, dividing it into axial regions generally associated with elements of the ambulacral system and extraxial regions that are not. UEH describes the detailed construction of the axial skeleton, dividing it into homologous plates and plate series based on symmetry, early growth, and function. These hypotheses are not in conflict; the latter is rooted in refinement of the former. Some interpretive differences arise because many of the morphologies described from eleutherozoan development are difficult to reconcile with Paleozoic forms. Conversely, many elements described for Paleozoic taxa by UEH, such as the peristomial border plates, are absent in eleutherozoans. This Element recommends these two hypotheses be used together to generate a better understanding of homology across Echinodermata.

MonkeyBrain evolved from many years of working with hundreds of clients in the wellness industry as a lifestyle fitness coach, helping others improve their health and physiques. Over time I began to see that emotional well-being also had a direct affect on our physical health. For many years I recognized undeniable emotional patterns among many of my clients. Upon reflection, I also noticed these patterns in myself. One pattern that became apparent, time and again, was that most of us tend to spiral into negative thinking when we are stressed. I could see that we all react to imbalances and stress in much the same way. It almost seemed that we had an addiction to stress and we were always looking for the worst case scenario, thinking of the problem instead of the solution. I wanted to know why we do this and more importantly, how we can change these faulty patterns.My questions were: Why do we tend to relive memories of stress, fear and drama more often than those of love and joy? Why does it feel like a compulsion to share our bad day, our physical pain, or our daily drama? And why does the brain recall memories without our permission? I began to call this way of thinking, MonkeyBrain. My search to find the MonkeyBrain Fix led me to study the latest neuroscience and mind/body medicine. What I discovered was not only surprising, but also life changing. MonkeyBrain shares years of discovery that began when I started exploring the relationships between our brain, our body, and our spirit. It connects all the dots with mental, physical, and spiritual connections that make sense and includes worthy projects for improving all areas of life. Also included is a template and journal for everyone to use. It is a twenty-one day challenge.

‘In The Ould Ago’, meaning a long time ago, is a book of Illustrated Irish Folklore book by Johnny McKeagney. Comprising of two hundred intricately hand-drawn illustrated pages of Irish traditions, crafts, history, emigration, countryside, farming ways, wildlife, myths and customs it is all sewn together in a case-bound hardback A3 size cover. A self-taught historian and artist, his prefaces are written by some heavy-hitting academics and historians. For forty years Johnny collected Irish folklore by pen and tape recorder. He details stories and events then sketches all the salient points with a fine nib so that readers of any age can easily visualize the topics. ‘In The Ould Ago’ has been selected to be displayed in top North American university libraries including Harvard, Notre Dame, Library of Congress in Washington, UCLA, Boston College and New York Public Libraries. Johnny's illustrated and written collection is now in the Fermanagh museum while his recorded material is being digitised by the UCD Folklore Department for the National Irish Archive. This special coffee table publication won a Judges Special Award in the International Rubery Book Awards and an Honorable Mention in the History section of the San Francisco Book Festivals Awards. Sadly Johnny passed away on the 1st of December 2010, just 5 weeks after his book was published. Seeing 40 years of collecting and sketching published in ‘In The Ould Ago’ gave him tremendous happiness. FolkloreBook.com gives a sense of the author and his work.

Postponement strategy is one of the major supply chain management (SCM) pr- tices that has a discernible impact on rms’ competitive advantage and organi- tional performance. Postponement is a mass customization strategy that captures the advantages of both mass production and mass customization. Recent research studies have identi ed four common postponement strategies, namely pull, logistics, form and price postponement. The former three postponement strategies are linked to production and manufacturing, while the last one is a pure pricing strategy. They aim at balancing the costs and bene ts of mass production and mass customization. Practical examples of postponement can be found in the high-tech industry, food industry and other industries that require high differentiation. However, empirical studies have found that postponement may not be an evident SCM practice compared to the other practices. In addition, postponement has both positive and negative impacts on a supply chain. The advantages include following the JIT principles, reducing end-product inventory, making forecasting easier and pooling risk. The high cost of designing and manufacturing generic components is the main drawback of postponement. Thus, the evaluation of postponement strategy is an important research issue and there have been many qualitative and quantitative models for analyzing postponement under different scenarios.
